Qi stagnation and blood stasis, where will they eventually go? They seep into the eye interior (Gan Gong), and the originally black pupil and pure white sclera suddenly turn red. Fangfeng expels the pathogenic factor into the cornea (Jing Jing); the color response in the cornea is unusually special, resembling the afterglow of a sunset or the appearance during a lunar eclipse. At this moment, the light abruptly recedes, and the condition seems to temporarily subside, but one worries that time does not wait, and the root cause remains.
When this syndrome first appears, there is a faint greenish-blue hue along half a ring of the eyelid margin; subsequently, it turns purple-black, or the entire orbital area swells slightly, and the sclera becomes congested and swollen, looking as if beaten by an old fist. The condition may spread between the left and right eyes, causing people at a distance to fear looking at them. Fortunately, vision is preserved without pain, and the patient does not feel significant distress. This is because consuming too many heat-inducing foods causes the Qi Sea in the chest and diaphragm to be blocked by pathogens. Blood becomes abundant and stagnant, unable to flow freely, forcing its way upward, thus creating this manifestation. In severe cases, it may even lead to severe coughing and bleeding from the mouth and nose. At this point, Qingdu Zhuzhi Tang (Clear Toxins and Remove Stasis Decoction) should be used urgently in large doses for several administrations. If symptoms do not recede, open and guide methods should be employed, or Didang Tang (Marsupial Decoction) and Tongyou Wan (Unblock the Nether Pill) should be used to attack and remove the stasis. Otherwise, Fire overacting on Metal (Lung) will cause Metal to overact on Wood (Liver), inevitably transforming into severe eye conditions such as Ningzhi Yi (Corneal Ulcer with Lipid Deposits), Huangye Shangchong (Yellow Fluid Rising Upward), and Yu Jing Bu Ye (Fish Eye Without Night). At this stage, the normal black spirit-light of the cornea (Jing Jing) is no longer visible, indicating that fresh blood has completely filled and infused the area. This must stem from an initial Wind-Heat syndrome; after dispersal, nourishment was not followed, and bitter-cold clearing agents were used exclusively to the end, depleting Kidney Essence and Gallbladder Juice until nothing remained. A trace of Original Yang directly invades Shui De (Water Virtue/Kidney-Bladder system). Is this merely comparable to Heat entering the Blood level with tangible urgency? If a person suffers from this disease, it is extremely perilous. If Shengmai San (Generate Pulse Powder), Shibu Wan (Ten Tonics Pill), and Guilu Erxian Gao (Tortoise and Deer Two Immortals Paste) are administered sequentially in doses of 3 liang each, day and night, recovery is still possible. If one fails to cherish health again, or if medication errors occur, not only will the eye disease be difficult to treat, but life expectancy may also be short. Physicians must first establish the etiology of the disease, or show this book to the patient's family members, which would be beneficial to treatment, avoiding future regrets.
Furthermore, regardless of the upper, lower, left, or right areas of the sclera, patches and spots appear, resembling red charcoal and vermilion clouds. After one night, the color becomes turbid and turns cyan-purple, and the patches enlarge. This is due to reckless bleeding caused by Blood Heat, lodging between the lung membranes. Some cases arise due to coughing, all resulting from restless Qi. Treatment should preferably utilize Jinling Jian (Metal Refining Decoction) and Daochi San (Guide Red Powder). Once the Fire subsides, the Blood flows smoothly, and the disease is easy to control. If one sticks to exterior-releasing and Lung-draining methods, administering dispersing formulas, it is feared that Tian Yuan (Constitutional Vitality) will become emaciated, and Feng Mu (Wind-Wood/Liver) will fail to withstand weakening, leading to unexpected severe internal and external complications.
