Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Baihe (Lilii Bulbus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix).
When the Lung is injured, causing sore throat, wheezing, cough with hemoptysis, and red, painful eyes, this formula is indicated.
When Lung Metal is damaged, the source of Kidney Water is cut off. The Kidney meridian runs alongside the pharynx; deficiency fire flares upward, thus causing pain. Fire steams upward into the Lung, thus causing wheezing and coughing. Phlegm is generated by fire, and blood is forced to move recklessly by fire, thus causing the Qi Wheel (sclera) to become red and painful. One must use Shengdi, Maidong, Beimu, Yuan Shen, and Jiegeng to moisten dryness and eliminate phlegm; and use Shaoyao, Danggui, Shudihuang, Baihe, and Gancao to nourish Yin and tonify the root.
The poem says: "Maidong, Danggui, and Beimu combined, Grass and Geng together remove bitterness; Raw and Cooked Di are without people, Shaoyao opens the garden."
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Fushen (Poria cum Radix), each one tael; Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), each five qian; Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Semen), Zhusha (Cinnabaris), each three qian; Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), two qian; Shexiang (Moschus), one qian.
For seminal emission due to dreams, or loss of essence due to visual temptation, this formula is indicated.
Dreams arise from intention and thought. There is no night without dreams, and no dream without emission; this indicates chaos in the Heart Spirit. When the Spirit is chaotic, Qi becomes turbulent; when Qi is turbulent, Essence scatters. When Essence scatters, the root of the Eye loses nourishment, thus vision becomes dim and confused. Treatment should employ Renshen, Fushen, Yuanzhi, Jiegeng, and Zhusha to clear and calm the Spirit; and Shanyao, Huangqi, Gancao, Yizhiren, and Muxiang to regulate Qi and tonify Qi. When the Spirit is bright and Qi is upright, True Fire expels evil, lewd dreams cease, and although Essence is not deliberately secured, it secures itself. As for Shexiang, it is a substance that repels filth and penetrates obscurity; borrowed as an envoy drug, perhaps its efficacy reaches a thousand li? Originally named after the material, the powder is called Miaoxiang San. Although seminal emission is also known as "secret union," even if illusory, it is treated as real. Those far away cannot send words, those near find it hard to keep appointments; once gone, they cannot return. Borrowing this to convey earnestness and vent emotional depression. Therefore, tonight in Handan, tomorrow night at Wushan, even sleeping through three lives brings joy. Since the karma of human dreams has been planted, the covenant can be sought again; in a deep sleep, amidst confusion and trance. Or perhaps the lamp light dims, embracing cold quilts alone, rain beating on banana leaves, wind rustling bamboo, noise preventing sleep. On the Peony Pavilion stage, who does the Flower God match? In the Butterfly Dream, where does the Old Man under the Moon linger? Suddenly heartbroken, hating not to take this powder.
The poem says: "Miaoxiang, Muxiang, and Shexiang mingle in vapor; People quiet, Spirit condensed, heard from afar; Previously taught in detail regarding medicinal herbs, Wind rings Jiegeng, will remains undivided."
