For chronic lateral or frontal headache gradually developing into internal eye disorders (cataracts/internal opacity), the following prescription is suitable:
Xixin (Asari Radix), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gaoben (Ligustici Rhizoma et Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Xicha (Fine Tea), and Huafen (Trichosanthis Radix) in equal parts, with seven green onion bulbs. Decoct in water, fumigate the affected area first, then ingest the decoction.
For dizziness caused by Blood deficiency (Blood Xu), use Bawu Tang (Eight-Ingredient Decoction).
Ercha (Kadamba Fruit), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos) (each 2 qian, 3 qian for severe cases).
Add two large bowls of water, boil for several times, and while hot, fumigate the painful head area. Cover the head with a quilted blanket; when the medicine cools, continue to cover the head. Sleep avoiding wind exposure. For mild cases, fumigate one or two times; for severe cases, three or four times.
Note: Headache is caused by thief-wind (pathogenic wind) entering the brain due to deficiency. Prolonged illness transforms into internal eye disorders. People often neglect this and suffer harm; early treatment is advisable.
For excessive phlegm-dampness presenting with dizziness and blurred vision, the following is suitable:
Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), fried Bajili (Tribuli Fructus), Guang Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium prepared with salt) in equal parts.
Decoct in water, take after meals.
For Que Mu (a specific eye condition resembling a magpie's eye), the following method is suitable:
Boil Si Gua Ye (Loofah Leaf) until soft, mix with Nuomi Fen (Glutinous Rice Flour), steam, form into cakes similar in size to longan fruits, and consume for several days until cured.
Ji Ming Ye Ling San (Cure Brightness Night Spirit Powder) (treats eyes becoming dim at night and unclear vision under lamplight.)
Yeming Sha (Stercoris Apiae, separately ground, 2 qian), Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis prepared with vinegar, 2 qian), Ge Yanggan (Sheep Liver, 1 liang, raw).
Mix the medicinal powders evenly. Use a bamboo knife to slice the liver into two pieces, sprinkle the powder on the liver, join the two halves, tie tightly with hemp so as not to leak air, and cook in a clay pot using rice washing water. When the liver is cooked, ingest both the liver and the cooking water before retiring.
For blurred vision after illness, or for women whose vision is blurred due to excessive blood loss during childbirth and insufficient Essence-Qi (Jing-Qi): First administer Xianren Lingying Gao (Immortal Spirit Response Ointment), followed by tonifying agents.
Huai Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata from Huai region, 3 liang), Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix, 3 liang), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 4 liang), Gouqi (Lycii Fructus, 5 liang), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 4 liang), Huai Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix steamed three times in wine, 5 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma stir-fried in earth, 4 liang), Weirui Rou (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma, 3 liang), Bai Fuling (Poria, 2 liang), Zhen Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin stir-fried, 3 liang).
Grind all ingredients into fine slices, decoct to extract juice, remove dregs, add 6 liang of refined honey, and simmer until it forms beads when dropped into water. Store in a jar, soaked in water overnight, then seal well. Take three to five tea spoons at any time daily, or mix with plain water, Yuanyuan Tang, or Ginseng decoction for administration.
