This is Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) and Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) removed. It is also known as Xionggui Tang, Danggui Tang, Foshou San, Hupo San, or Yantai San. It treats heart and abdominal pain caused by menstrual irregularities; it also treats headache due to blood deficiency, postpartum conditions, and all cases of dizziness and irritability resulting from excessive blood loss.
This is Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with Xiongnu (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) removed, plus Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu) and Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex). It treats Yangming disease in Shanghan (Cold Damage) where the mouth is dry and the patient desires to rinse but not swallow, indicating an impending nosebleed (epistaxis); it is taken for this purpose. It also treats epistaxis; it treats epistaxis accompanied by sweating on the head or sweating on the body that does not reach the feet, which is difficult to treat; Jingsha (Chinese Inkstone Powder) can be added. It also treats hematemesis due to Shanghan; it treats Shanghan and warm diseases where internal blood stasis causes hematemesis or epistaxis, yellowish complexion, and black stool; it treats severe wind-heat causing red and swollen eyes, throat obstruction, oral ulcers, and erysipelas; it treats deficiency consumption with fire agitation, where heat transfers to the Lung, causing cough and hemoptysis.
This consists of the ingredients of Xijiao Dihuang Wan (Rhino Horn and Rehmannia Pill), chopped and decocted in water. It treats blood stasis in the upper jiao, manifesting as vomiting, epistaxis, or regurgitation of material from the chest that cannot be touched due to heat; if heat is severe, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix). If the abdomen is not distended but the patient feels full, there is no excess heat, so Huangqin need not be added. The original text states that if Xijiao is unavailable, Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) may be used as a substitute. However, Shengma differs from Xijiao in nature, flavor, and action; its use here is to guide qi into the yang aspect. For treating severe skin eruptions, remove Shaoyao and add Zhusha (Cinnabar), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Baifuling (Poria), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). It treats evil heat in the Heart channel causing disordered speech, palpitations, mental confusion, and forgetfulness.
