This is Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with added Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 liang), used to treat heart and abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, cholera, muscle cramps, cold body, slight sweating, and cold extremities caused by weak and cold spleen and stomach. It treats all conditions of rumbling in the abdomen, incessant vomiting and hiccups, inability to eat, and all types of deep-seated cold and stubborn cold pathologies.
This is Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with added Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) and Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, each 1 liang), used to treat heart and abdominal fullness and pain due to food stagnation, and cholera with vomiting and diarrhea. If vomiting persists due to excessive consumption of raw or cold fish and meat, add Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum, each 1 liang). Each dose is decocted with ten slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens).
This is Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with added Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) and Fuling (Poria, each 1 liang), used to treat vomiting due to cold arising from disharmony of the spleen and stomach. If accompanied by incessant loose stools, add Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 2 liang); if there is aversion to water and undigested food, add Suosharen (Amomi Fructus, 1 liang), forming a total of eight ingredients.
This is Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) removed and Shu Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix) added (some say add Fuling Poria), used to treat cholera with vomiting and diarrhea, heart and abdominal pain, and cold extremities. It also treats fever, deep pulse, mental depression, aversion to light, frequent abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
This is Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) and Fuling (Poria, each 1 liang) added, used to treat severe chest oppression after vomiting and diarrhea, high and painful epigastrium where touch is unbearable. If added with Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix, 1 liang)...
This is Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with Huoxiao (Natrii Sulfas) and Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 1 liang) added, used to treat muscle cramps following cholera.
This is Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) removed, and Shujiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, 2 he) added, to dispel sweat. It treats severe cold pain in the heart and chest, vomiting with inability to eat, cold qi rushing up in the abdomen causing skin protrusions resembling heads and feet, and severe pain throughout that cannot be touched.
This is Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with Fuling (Poria) and Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) added, used to treat thirst in Yin syndrome of Shanghan (Cold Damage).
This is Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) with Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) added, used to treat symptoms such as two-stage contraction in Shanghan (Cold Damage), excess Yin and deficiency of Yin, and spontaneous sweating.
This is Lizhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill) with Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, 4 pieces), Fuling (Poria, 2 liang), Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix, 2 liang), and Mu Li (Ostreae Concha, calcined and powdered, 2 liang) added. Honey pills are made the size of quail eggs. One pill is taken at a time, dissolved in hot water, and repeated without stopping. It treats epidemic febrile diseases lasting four to five days, characterized by fullness in the heart, obstruction in both hypochondria, urgent and rebellious Qi in the chest threatening to rupture, which other medicines fail to cure. Cui Shi said: This formula works miraculously fast; relief comes immediately upon swallowing. Continued administration of no more than five or six pills brings sudden clarity to the chest. The speed of this medication has never been seen before. However, for those with thirst, remove Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix); for those with diarrhea, increase Mu Li (Ostreae Concha); do not use if there is constipation. I therefore shared this method with Han Kangbo (Commander-in-Chief), Mao Zhongzu (Right Guard), Wang Daoyu (Guanglu Officer), and Gu Junzhongkan (Lingtai Physician). All of them used it and marveled at its rapid response. At that time, Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) became highly valued. Avoid consuming Haizao (Sargassum), Songcai (Brassica pekinensis), vinegar, peaches, plums, and apricot kernels. Shen Shi agrees with this view.
