Bitter, sweet, and neutral in nature. It primarily treats blood stasis (blood stagnation), amenorrhea due to obstruction, and abdominal masses (zheng and jia), dispels evil qi, and eliminates all diseases caused by blood stagnation. It kills small parasites (referring to worms generated from degenerated blood).
The peach tree is born of the harmonious qi of spring in the third month, and its flowers are the most vivid and bright, resembling blood. Therefore, for any disease involving blood depression or coagulation that cannot be harmonized and smoothly circulated, this herb can enter the affected area to harmonize and dissipate it. However, why does it have little efficacy in generating blood but much efficacy in removing blood stasis? This is because the peach kernel itself is not of the same category as blood, thus it cannot provide tonification. If blood stasis consists of degenerated blood which cannot circulate without vital qi, the vital qi of the peach resides in the kernel. Furthermore, its bitter taste allows for opening and draining, enabling it to expel old blood without injuring new blood.
