[ Xin Yi (Magnolia Flower) ]
Taste: Acrid, Warm.
Indications: Primarily treats diseases of the five Zang organs, as well as conditions involving cold and heat in the body, and disorders of sinking of Clear Qi (Qing Qi). It treats head wind and brain pain, possessing the function of ascending and dispersing Wind pathogenic factors. It removes Wind stagnation from the face and skin/hair. Long-term consumption causes Qi to descend, lightens the body, brightens the eyes, increases lifespan, and delays aging. When Clear Qi ascends, Turbid Qi descends, resulting in clarity and tranquility throughout the body, allowing for longevity.
Xin Yi is planted among other trees but grows taller than them before stopping; its nature is specifically directed upward, thus it can ascend and reach Clear Qi. Furthermore, it receives the Qi of Spring earliest, so it can soothe and unblock Liver Qi. Its aroma is fresh and pungent, capable of expelling pathogenic Wind causing head and eye diseases. Medicinals cannot always reach the disease site directly; Xin Yi serves as a guiding herb (Yin Jing Yao).
[ Sang Shang Ji Sheng (Mistletoe on Mulberry) ]
Taste: Bitter, Neutral.
Indications: Primarily treats lower back pain. Having received the essence of the Mulberry tree, it also assists the sinews and bones. It treats rigidity of the back in children and drives out Wind from the spine. It treats carbuncles and swellings by harmonizing blood vessels. It calms the fetus, as the fetus resides parasitically within the mother's abdomen. It fills the flesh and skin, strengthens hair and teeth, and promotes the growth of beard and eyebrows. It nourishes the blood vessels of the skin and hair. Its fruit primarily brightens the eyes. The nature of Mulberry expels Wind; the Liver is the organ associated with Wind and opens into the eyes; when Wind is removed, vision becomes clear. It lightens the body and enhances spiritual clarity. Sang Shang Ji Sheng is generated by absorbing the Qi of Wind and Dew, so consuming it yields subtle effects of clearing and emptiness.
Sang Shang Ji Sheng is the凝结 (condensation) of the Mulberry tree's essence, growing small trees among the branches, resembling the image of bearing offspring, thus it can calm the fetus. Its nature is close to that of Mulberry, so it can also expel Wind and nourish Blood. It grows without attaching to the soil, relying on Heaven's Qi rather than Earth's Qi, thus it can nourish blood vessels in empty/depleted areas, achieving even more miraculous effects.
