气味甘、平，无毒。主伤中劳绝，腰痛羸瘦，补中益气，妇人血闭无子，止痛安
胎。久服轻身延年。
陈修园曰∶白胶即鹿角煎熬成胶，何以《本经》白胶列为上品、鹿茸列为中品乎？盖鹿
茸温补过峻，不如白胶之甘平足贵也。功用略同，不必再释。其主妇人血闭、止痛安胎者，
皆补冲脉血海之功也。轻身延年者，精足血满之效也。
气味辛、温，无毒。主辟恶气、杀鬼精物，去诸虫虫毒，温疟惊痫。久服除邪，
不梦寤魇寐。
【参】 麝食柏叶、香草及蛇虫，其香在脐，为诸香之冠。香者，天地之正气也，故能
辟恶而杀毒。香能通达经络，故能逐心窍凝痰，而治惊痫；驱募原邪气，以治温疟。而魇寐
之症，当熟寐之顷，心气闭塞而成。麝香之香气最盛，令闭者不闭，塞者不塞，则无此患矣
。孕妇忌之。

毒，除众病，和百药。久服强志轻身，不饥不老。
陈修园曰∶石蜜气平，禀金气而入肺；味甘无毒，得土味而入脾。心腹者，自心下以及
大小腹与胁肋而言也；邪气者，六淫之气自外来，七情之气自内起，非固有之气，即邪气也
，其主之者甘平之用也。诸惊痫 者，厥阴风木之为病也；其主之者，养胃和中，所谓厥阴
不治，取之阳明是也。脾为五脏之本，脾得补而安，则五脏俱安，而无不足之患矣。真气者
，得于天而充于谷，味甘益脾，即所以益气而补中也。止痛者，味甘能缓诸急。解毒者，气
平能胜诸邪也。诸花之精华，采取不遗，所以能除众病；诸花之气味，酝酿合一，所以能和
百药也。久服强志轻身、不饥不老者，皆调和气血，补养精神之验也。
[Baijiao]
Odor and Flavor: Sweet, neutral, non-toxic. Indications: Injuries to the middle jiao, consumptive fatigue, lower back pain, emaciation and weakness; tonifies the middle and benefits qi; treats amenorrhea due to blood obstruction in women leading to infertility, relieves pain, and calms the fetus. Long-term use makes the body light and prolongs life.
Chen Xiuyuan says: Baijiao is glue made by boiling deer antlers. Why does the *Shennong Bencao Jing* list Baijiao as a superior grade drug while listing Deer Antler (Lurong) as a medium grade? It is likely because the warming and tonifying action of Deer Antler is too harsh, whereas Baijiao's sweet and neutral nature is more precious. Their functions are roughly the same, so no further explanation is needed. Its ability to treat amenorrhea, relieve pain, and calm the fetus is due to its merit in tonifying the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Blood Sea. Making the body light and prolonging life is the effect of sufficient essence and full blood.

Odor and Flavor: Bitter, neutral. Indications: Convulsions, epilepsy, alternating cold and heat, mania due to excessive heat; expels evil spirits and ghosts.
[Moschus]
Odor and Flavor: Pungent, warm, non-toxic. Indications: Repels evil qi, kills ghostly essences and objects, removes various insect poisons, treats warm malaria, convulsions, and epilepsy. Long-term use expels evil and prevents nightmares and sleep paralysis.
[Reference] Musk comes from eating cypress leaves, fragrant herbs, and snakes/insects; its fragrance is located at the navel, making it the chief of all fragrances. Fragrance is the righteous qi of heaven and earth, thus it can repel evil and kill toxins. Fragrance can unblock meridians and collaterals, thus it can drive away凝痰 (coagulated phlegm) from the heart orifices and treat convulsions and epilepsy; it drives away pathogenic qi from the semi-interior and exterior (Mu Yuan) to treat warm malaria. The condition of sleep paralysis occurs when heart qi becomes blocked during deep sleep. The fragrance of Musk is most potent, opening what is closed and unblocking what is obstructed, thus preventing this affliction. It is contraindicated for pregnant women.
[Shimi / Honey]
Odor and Flavor: Sweet, neutral, non-toxic. Indications: Treats evil qi in the heart and abdomen, various convulsions and epilepsy; calms the five zang organs and addresses deficiencies; benefits qi and tonifies the middle; relieves pain and resolves toxicity; eliminates many diseases and harmonizes hundred drugs. Long-term use strengthens willpower, makes the body light, prevents hunger and aging.
Chen Xiuyuan says: Shimi has a neutral odor, inheriting Metal Qi to enter the Lung; it has a sweet flavor and is non-toxic, obtaining Earth's taste to enter the Spleen. "Heart and abdomen" refers to the area from below the heart to the small and large abdomen and hypochondrium. "Evil qi" refers to the six excesses coming from outside and the seven emotions rising from inside; these are not inherent qi, hence they are evil qi. The treatment relies on the function of sweet and neutral properties. "Various convulsions and epilepsy" are diseases of Jueyin Wind-Wood. The treatment relies on nourishing the Stomach and harmonizing the Middle, as stated: "When Jueyin is not governed, seek treatment in Yangming." The Spleen is the root of the five zang organs; when the Spleen is tonified and stabilized, the five zang organs are all stabilized, avoiding deficiency. "True Qi" is obtained from Heaven and filled by grain; sweet flavor benefits the Spleen, which is how it benefits qi and tonifies the middle. Relieving pain is because sweet flavor can relax various spasms. Resolving toxicity is because neutral odor can overcome various evils. The essence of all flowers is collected without omission, thus it can eliminate many diseases; the odors and flavors of all flowers are fermented and unified, thus it can harmonize hundred drugs. Long-term use strengthening willpower, making the body light, and preventing hunger and aging are all verified effects of harmonizing qi and blood and nourishing spirit.
