Pungent in flavor, cold in nature. Primarily treats scabies (skin disease characterized by intense itching and rash), crusts, and ulcers. It removes white alopecia (tinea capitis causing hair loss) and kills lice in the skin. It induces abortion. It clears heat pathogenic factors. It neutralizes the toxicity of gold, silver, copper, and tin. After smelting, it can revert to cinnabar. Long-term consumption is believed to confer immortality and transcendence. Found in plain lands.

Pungent in flavor, slightly cold in nature. Primarily treats wind-stroke accompanied by alternating chills and fever. It addresses rebellious Qi in the epigastrium, palpitations with panting, dry mouth with bitter and scorched sensations, and dyspnea (difficulty breathing). It treats hardness and pain in the abdomen. It expels evil spirits (referring to mental abnormalities or superstition-related afflictions). It treats postpartum conditions and metal wounds (trauma caused by sharp metal objects). Found in mountain valleys.
