Chen Jin stated: Previously, Master Honggang taught: When selecting acupoints, accuracy is essential. Use the thumb of the left hand to press on the acupoint, place the needle on the acupoint with the right hand, and instruct the patient to cough once. Insert the needle to the specified depth following the cough. After needling several acupoints, pause for a moment. Hold the needle with the thumb and index finger of the right hand, and gently shake, advance, retreat, and twirl the needle, mimicking the trembling motion of a hand; this is called "Cui Qi" (Urging the Arrival of Qi). Perform this approximately five or six times until a tight sensation of Qi is felt under the needle. Then apply the reducing method. If needling the left side, hold the needle with the thumb and index finger of the right hand, push the thumb forward and pull the index finger backward, and gently lift and rotate the needle head to the left. If multiple acupoints are involved, wait until all have been rotated according to this method. Continue holding the needle with the thumb and index finger of the right hand, then use the index finger to rub three times consecutively; this is called "Fei" (Flying). Gently lift and rotate to the left again, withdrawing the needle slightly by about half a cun; this is called "San Fei Yi Tui" (Three Flies One Withdrawal). Proceed according to this method for five or six times; when a sinking and tight sensation is felt under the needle, it indicates that Qi has reached its peak. Lift and rotate to the left one or two more times. If needling the right side, hold the needle with the thumb and index finger of the left hand, applying the reducing method for the right side. When preparing to withdraw the needle, instruct the patient...

Chen Jin stated: Formerly, Master Honggang taught: Whenever a person suffers from disease, it is due to the gathering of pathogenic factors. Even if the patient is emaciated and weak, one should not exclusively employ tonifying methods. The *Classic* states: "Where pathogenic factors gather, the healthy Qi must be deficient." For conditions such as red eyes, where it is clearly evident that they are caused by pathogenic heat, one may exclusively employ the reducing method. For other diseases, only balanced tonification and reduction are suitable. One must reduce first and then tonify; this is called first eliminating the pathogenic factors and then tonifying the true Qi. This is the master's secret teaching. If a person is ill, after inserting the needle according to the previous methods and using manual techniques to urge and obtain Qi, once the reducing method is completed, proceed with the tonifying method. Instruct the patient to take a deep breath in. As they inhale, rotate the needle. If needling the left side, turn the needle head to the right. Hold the needle with the thumb and index finger of the right hand, push the index finger forward and the thumb backward, and still insert the needle deeper by one or two fen, so that the true Qi penetrates deeply into the muscle layers. If needling the right side, turn the needle head to the left. Hold the needle with the thumb and index finger of the left hand, push the index finger forward and the thumb backward, and still insert the needle deeper by one or two fen. If multiple acupoints are involved, perform these steps for each, then pause for a moment. Subsequently, lightly tap the top of the needle three times with a finger, repeating this three times. Still holding the needle with the thumb and index finger of the left hand, rub the thumb three times consecutively (this is called "Fei"), insert the needle deeper by one or two fen, and turn the needle head to the left; this is called "Yi Jin San Fei" (One Advance Three Flies). When a sinking and tight sensation is felt under the needle, or the Qi feels warm, it indicates that Qi has arrived sufficiently. Instruct the patient to take a deep breath in, and as they inhale...
