At the initial onset of this eye condition, there may be itching or pain, with redness and ulceration persisting for many years. This is caused by wind pathogen stagnation in the Lung organ, manifesting without a fixed pattern, gradually developing into a fleshy pterygium invading the cornea (Hei Jing), covering the pupil. For this presentation, hook cutting and cauterization are appropriate, followed by the administration of Chufeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction) and Qibao Gao (Seven-Treasure Ointment), which yield immediate effects.
The poem states:
The root of the fleshy growth has two types; one must distinguish to see the origin.
It may arise after years of redness and ulceration, or result from wind rushing up from the Lungs.
With itching or pain lacking a fixed pattern, a single root in the Lungs gradually invades and fills the cornea.
When newly formed, it is floating and small, easily removed by hooking; when covering the pupil, treatment is slightly more difficult.
First, use herbs to clear heat and expel wind; ultimately, cutting and cauterization ensure long-term peace.
Relying solely on herbs for residual pathology is futile; using Seven-Treasure Ointment to dissolve it will lead to natural recovery.
Chufeng Tang (Wind-Expelling Decoction)
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Chongweizi (Leonuri Fructus) (each 2 liang); Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 liang).
Grind the above into powder. Take 5 qian of the powder with one cup of water, decoct until reduced to 0.5 cup. Strain and take warm after meals.
Qibao Gao (Seven-Treasure Ointment)
Zhenzhu Mo (Margarita Pulvis), Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum), Xiongdan (Ursi Bile) (each 1 fen); Shijueming (Haliotidis Concha), Hupo (Electrum) (each 3 fen); Shuijing (Quartzum), Longchi (Dens Mamuthi et Eleutherii) (each 5 qian).
Crush and grind the above into powder, refining until extremely uniform. Add 5 sheng of water, decoct in a stone vessel until reduced to 1 sheng. Strain, then continue decocting until reduced to 1 cup. Add 0.5 liang of honey and mix into an ointment. Apply to the eyes at night before sleep. Do not apply in the morning.
At the initial onset of this eye condition, there may be itching or pain, with chronic wind-induced redness and sores within the eyelids. Due to heat in the Lung and Diaphragm, and wind stagnation in the Spleen and Stomach, the two eyelids adhere to each other. Hook cutting and cauterization are indicated here, followed by the administration of Paifeng San (Wind-Expelling Powder) and Wuxi Wan (Black Rhinoceros Horn Pill), yielding immediate effects.
The poem states:
How to discuss the adhesion of eyelids to the cornea? Chronic wind-induced redness is the cause.
Eye pain, dry and rough eyelids, rotting skin and flesh; sores adhere to each other as if connected by sinews.
Cutting and cauterization should only require bleeding; burn a copper comb red-hot and cauterize the Hei Jing (pupil area).
Wind-expelling pills and powders must be taken frequently; over the years, the root cause will be eliminated.
Paifeng San (Wind-Expelling Powder)
Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (each 3 liang); Wushe (Bungarus Parvus), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Ganxie (Scorpio) (each 2 liang).
Grind the above into powder. Take 1 qian mixed with rice broth, either on an empty stomach or after meals.
Wuxi Wan (Black Rhinoceros Horn Pill)
Wuxi (Rhinocerotis Cornu), Fuling (Poria), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Heishen (Radix Panacis Nigricantis), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (each 1 liang); Ganshan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) (each 2 liang).
Grind the above into powder, refine honey, and make pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 10 pills with tea on an empty stomach.
