Metrorrhagia is caused by the disordered flow of the meridians, essentially resulting from damage to the Chong and Ren vessels (two extraordinary vessels regulating menstruation and reproduction), which fail to constrain menstrual blood. Treatment should focus on greatly tonifying Qi and Blood, utilizing Juyuan Yixue Dan (Vitality-Boosting Blood-Nourishing Pill) to vigorously supplement the root source, with a small addition of heat-clearing herbs to treat the branch symptoms. By nourishing Yin and draining Yang, metrorrhagia will naturally cease. If the condition is due to reckless bleeding from blood heat, accompanied by dry throat and lips, a forceful and solid pulse, and foul-smelling blood, Siwu Liangge San (Four Substances Cooling Chest Powder) may be used, taken with raw Chinese chive juice. However, when treating hemorrhage, one must strictly avoid using purely cold-natured herbs, as blood coagulates upon exposure to cold. If metrorrhagia is abruptly stopped at its onset, there is a risk of forming accumulations and stagnation; if left untreated, it may lead to dizziness or sudden syncope. One must first administer Duxing San (Single Herb Powder), followed by Jingfang Wuji San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Five Accumulations Powder) for one or two doses, and then beiquan san (Complete Preparation Powder). If bleeding persists, Shihui San (Ten Charred Powders) is then used to stop the bleeding. After hemostasis is achieved, Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) must be administered to consolidate the therapeutic effect.
