Men and women are both human beings; their diet and clothing are the same, as are their labor and daily routines. The causes of their diseases, whether external contraction or internal injury, their groaning in bed and crying out in pain, are all identical. Why then is there a distinction for gynecology? However, the reason for this difference lies entirely in the reproductive organs. Women possess innate reproductive capacity to propagate the species, relying solely on women, whereas men cannot do so. Therefore, the reproductive structure of women differs from that of men, which is a major reason why they suffer from more diseases than men. Conditions such as regulating menstruation (Tiaojing), aiding conception (Zhongzi), prenatal care (Taiqian), postpartum care (Chanhou), and leukorrhea (Daixia) are diseases unique to women, which men do not have. Is it not appropriate, then, for gynecology to be a separate discipline? Today, Peng Zi, recognizing that ancient theories were not entirely sound and ancient texts too cumbersome, specifically authored "Jiyao of Gynecology" (Nuke Jiyao) and requested me to write a preface. After reading it once, I found the book concise and pertinent without digression, with penetrating reasoning. I believe its merit in benefiting women does not fall short of Fu Qingzhu, so I gladly wrote this preface.

Treating diseases in women is more difficult than treating those in men. Women often have stubborn personalities and are reluctant to speak openly about hidden ailments. Moreover, conditions related to pregnancy, childbirth, and menstruation are more frequent in women than in men. Hence, ancient sages sighed, "I would rather treat ten men than one woman." Regarding gynecological literature, ancients produced many works, each with its strengths. The most detailed and comprehensive is *Jiyin Gangmu* (Comprehensive Outline of Treating Women), while the most concise and exhaustive is *Yizong Jinjian* (Golden Mirror of the Medical Tradition). I have not had the opportunity to read other fine editions. Recently, a friend brought the book "Zhuquansheng Nuke Jiyao" (Essentials of Gynecology by Zhuquansheng) and requested a preface. After browsing through it, although it is not an original creation, it extracts the essence and elegance in an orderly manner. Without the insight and judgment of an experienced practitioner (one who has broken their arm three times, implying extensive experience), such discernment would not be possible. It truly serves as a bridge for future learners. Thus, I record a few words to accompany it.
