Avoid eating Goose Meat, HT Carp (HT Carp - *likely OCR error for Live Carp*), Duck, Glutinous Rice, Eggs, and Mulberry Berries together. Pregnant women often crave peaches, plums, apricots, bayberries, vinegar, and similar sour foods. The Classics state: "The Heart governs Blood, the Liver stores Blood; the Liver corresponds to the Sour taste, which nourishes Blood to support the Fetus." This is because when Liver Blood is deficient, the body seeks external sour flavors to tonify it. However, excessive consumption is not advisable, as it may cause Liver Wood Qi to become excessive and overact upon Spleen Earth. There are also cases where excessive intake of sour substances leads to phlegm accumulation, resulting in Zi Xian (Eclampsia/Pregnancy Convulsions).
(Appendix: Discussion on Fetal Origin, Discussion on Natural Delivery, Discussion on Retained Placenta, Ten Essentials Before Birth, Intestinal Prolapse during Delivery)
The Book of Songs states: "When the month of delivery is full, birth occurs as easily as a lamb being born." The difficulty of childbirth and the safety of mother and child depend entirely on proper post-natal care and nursing. During the eighth and ninth months of pregnancy, it is crucial to preserve Qi and Blood, harmonize the Zang-Fu organs, be cautious with daily activities, strictly avoid Wind-Cold pathogens, and refrain from unwarranted exertion. Increase dietary intake, ensure suitable living conditions, and maintain physical and mental comfort and ease, so that the Fetal Origin remains stable and sufficient. It is especially important to abstain from sexual intercourse, thereby naturally completing the ten-month gestation period, which aligns with the Dao of Life. If a pregnant woman suffers from insufficient Qi and Blood, emaciation, and lacks medicinal tonification and dietary nourishment, while additionally enduring relentless labor, anger, and sorrow, violating all health preservation methods, she will inevitably face danger and death. Those who can follow these ten principles for regulation can ensure absolute safety; wise individuals should carefully understand and practice them.
