Whenever moxibustion is employed, its purpose is to disperse cold pathogens, eliminate yin toxins, open up stagnation and break through obstruction, assist qi recovery, and restore yang. Once the heat power reaches the target area, its efficacy is significant. Therefore, ancient practitioners of moxibustion utilized methods such as "two reports" (secondary applications) and "three reports," continuing even for years without interruption. With successive applications accelerating the effect, it was particularly rapid. Some started with three or five moxa cones and gradually increased to hundreds or thousands, advocating that more is better. However, when moxibusting the head and face, the moxa cone should be small and not numerous; for the hands and feet, the quantity should be slightly doubled; for the abdomen and back, it should be doubled again. If moxibustion is applied to both upper and lower parts, one must start from the upper body and proceed downwards, never starting from the bottom up. For the tonification method using fire, do not blow on the fire; wait for it to extinguish naturally and thoroughly. After moxibustion, apply a plaster immediately to nourish the fire energy. If secondary application ("report") is desired, apply the plaster only after the secondary session is complete. For the sedation method using fire, one may blow on the fire to accelerate it, ensuring rapid transmission of the heat. One must wait until the moxa blister ulcerates before applying the plaster. This constitutes the distinction between tonification and sedation methods. Conditions such as rapid and restless pulse, dry mouth and sore throat, red face with excessive fire, and internal heat due to yin deficiency are all unsuitable for moxibustion. Applying moxibustion in these cases would instead exacerbate the fire, leading to immediate adverse consequences if improperly indicated. Volume Four of *Tu Yi* contains various principles regarding acupuncture and moxibustion, which should be consulted together.

Whenever there is a sensation of spasm and numbness in the limbs, mental confusion, and signs indicating an impending stroke, regardless of whether caused by wind or qi stagnation, moxibustion applied to these seven acupoints in sequence will result in recovery.

Shenque (CV8) is optimal for sudden stroke. Luo Tianyi stated: Medication for stroke can only provide support; to achieve complete recovery, moxibustion is superior. Moxibustion not only disperses wind pathogens and unblocks blood vessels but also possesses profound effects in restoring yang and boosting qi, which are difficult to fully describe. See the entry for this acupoint for details.

If the mouth deviates to the right, it indicates wind-stroke affecting the left meridian causing flaccidity; moxibustion should be applied to the depression near Quanliao (SI18) on the left side for fourteen cones. If it deviates to the left, it indicates wind-stroke affecting the right meridian causing flaccidity; moxibustion should be applied to the depression near Quanliao (SI18) on the right side for fourteen cones. The moxa cone should be the size of a wheat grain.
