Seventeen Methods for Deficient Annual Movements: These Belong to Yin Years.
1. Yi Chou Year: Metal Movement is deficient; Chou is a Yin year. Why subtract nine ke (time units)? Because Chou belongs to Earth, whose number is five. Yi represents Metal movement being deficient. When deficient, it follows the generating element (Mother), which is Water, with the number four. Four plus five equals nine; therefore, subtract nine ke. This is the method for subtracting ke in Yin years. At the time of movement transition, face the Chen direction and observe. Originally, Yi resides in Chen. First, green Qi appears. After it disappears, white Qi flows horizontally from the Yi direction to the Chou direction until it ends. The color is pale, and its movement is slow. Alternatively, red Qi may arrive simultaneously, indicating that Fire overcomes (Sheng). Subsequently, black Qi arrives, indicating that Water restores (Fu).
2. Yi Wei Year: Yi Metal movement is deficient; Wei is a Yin year. Why subtract nine ke? Because Wei belongs to Earth, whose number is five. Yi Metal movement is deficient, following the generating number four. Four plus five equals nine; therefore, subtract nine ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Chen direction and observe. First, green Qi appears. After it disappears, white Qi flows from the Yi direction to the Wei direction until it ends. If red Qi arrives simultaneously, one knows the overcoming force is strong. If red Qi arrives later, the overcoming force is weak. Black Qi arrives subsequently; if its momentum is large, the restoration is severe; if small, the restoration is mild.
3. Yi Hai Year: Yi Metal movement is deficient; Hai is a Yin year. Why subtract ten ke? Because Hai belongs to Qian (Northwest), whose number is six. Yi Metal movement is deficient, following the generating number four. Four plus six equals ten; therefore, subtract ten ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Chen direction and observe. First, green Qi appears. After it disappears, white Qi flows from the Yi direction to the Chen direction until it ends. The color is pale, and its movement is slow. If red Qi arrives simultaneously, the overcoming force is strong; if it arrives later, the overcoming force is weak. Black Qi arrives subsequently; if large, the restoration is large; if small, the restoration is small.
4. Yi Si Year: Yi Metal movement is deficient; Si is a Yin year. Why subtract eight ke? Because Si belongs to Xun (Southeast), whose number is four. Yi Metal movement is deficient, following the generating number four. Four plus four equals eight; therefore, subtract eight ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Chen direction and observe. First, green Qi appears. After it disappears, white Qi flows from the Yi direction to the Si direction until it ends. The color is pale, and its movement is slow. If red Qi arrives simultaneously, the overcoming force is deep/strong; if it arrives later, the overcoming force is weak. Black Qi arrives subsequently; if large, the restoration is large; if small, the restoration is small.
5. Ding Chou Year: Ding Wood movement is deficient; Chou is a Yin year. Why subtract eight ke? Because Chou belongs to Earth, whose number is five. Ding Wood movement is deficient, following the generating number three (Water generates Wood). Three plus five equals eight; therefore, subtract eight ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. Ding originally resides in Wei. First, red Qi appears. After it disappears, cyan/green Qi flows from the Ding direction to the Chou direction until it ends. Finally, white Qi arrives simultaneously, indicating Metal overcoming; if strong, the overcoming is severe. If white Qi arrives later, the overcoming is mild. Subsequently, red Qi arrives; if large, Fire restoration is large; if small, Fire restoration is small. Restoration may occur early or late.
6. Ding Wei Year: Ding Wood movement is deficient; Wei is a Yin year. Why subtract eight ke? Because Wei belongs to Earth, whose number is five. Ding Wood movement is deficient, following the generating number three. Three plus five equals eight; therefore, subtract eight ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. First, red Qi appears. After it disappears, cyan/green Qi rises upward without horizontal flow, reaching the Wei direction. This is because Ding's original residence is in Wei, so it does not flow horizontally. If white Qi appears simultaneously, Metal overcoming is severe; if seen subsequently, the overcoming is mild. Subsequently, red Qi arrives; if large, Fire restoration is large; if small, Fire restoration is small.
7. Ding You Year: Ding Wood movement is deficient; You is a Yin year. Why subtract ten ke? Because You belongs to Dui (West), whose number is seven. Wood movement is deficient, following the generating number three. Three plus seven equals ten; therefore, subtract ten ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. First, red Qi appears. After it disappears, cyan/green Qi flows horizontally from the Ding direction to the You direction until it ends. The color is pale, and its movement is slow. White Qi arrives simultaneously; Metal overcoming is severe. If it arrives subsequently, the overcoming is small. Red Qi arrives subsequently; if large, Fire restoration is large; if small, Fire restoration is small.
8. Ji Mao Year: Ji Earth movement is deficient; Mao is a Yin year. Why subtract eight ke? Because Mao belongs to Zhen (East), whose number is three. Ji Earth movement has the number five. Earth has no completion number, only the generation number five. Three plus five equals eight; therefore, subtract eight ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. Ji also resides in Wei. First, purple Qi appears. After it disappears, yellow Qi flows horizontally from the Si direction to the Mao direction until it ends. Cyan/green Qi arrives simultaneously; Wood overcoming is severe. If it arrives later, Wood overcoming is mild. Subsequently, white Qi arrives; if large, Metal restoration is large; if small, Metal restoration is small.
9. Ji You Year: Ji Earth movement is deficient; You is a Yin year. Why subtract twelve ke? Because You belongs to Dui, whose number is seven. Ji Earth movement is deficient, with the number five. Seven plus five equals twelve; therefore, subtract twelve ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. First, purple Qi appears. After it disappears, yellow Qi flows horizontally from the Ji direction to the You direction until it ends. Cyan/green Qi arrives simultaneously; Wood overcoming is severe. If it arrives later, Wood overcoming is small. Subsequently, white Qi arrives; if large, Metal restoration is large; if small, Metal restoration is small.
10. Ji Si Year: Ji Earth movement is deficient; Si is a Yin year. Why subtract nine ke? Because Si belongs to Xun, whose number is four. Ji Earth movement is deficient, with the number five. Four plus five equals nine; therefore, subtract nine ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. First, purple Qi appears. After it disappears, yellow Qi flows horizontally from the Ji direction to the Si direction until it ends. Cyan/green Qi arrives simultaneously; Wood overcoming is severe. If it arrives later, Wood overcoming is small. Subsequently, white Qi arrives; if large, Metal restoration is large; if small, Metal restoration is small.
11. Ji Hai Year: Ji Earth movement is deficient; Hai is a Yin year. Why subtract eleven ke? Because Hai belongs to Qian, whose number is six. Ji Earth movement is deficient, with the number five. Five plus six equals eleven; therefore, subtract eleven ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. First, purple Qi appears. After it disappears, yellow Qi flows horizontally from the Ji direction to the Hai direction until it ends. Cyan/green Qi arrives simultaneously; Wood overcoming is severe. If it arrives later, Wood overcoming is small. Subsequently, white Qi arrives; if large, Metal restoration is large; if small, Metal restoration is small.
12. Xin Mao Year: Xin Water movement is deficient; Mao is a Yin year. Why subtract four ke? Because Mao belongs to Zhen, whose number is three. Water movement is deficient, following the generating number one (Metal generates Water). One plus three equals four; therefore, subtract four ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Xu direction and observe. Xin originally resides in Xu. First, warm white Qi (appearing like brown) appears. After it disappears, black Qi flows horizontally from the Xin direction to the Mao direction until it ends. Yellow Qi arrives simultaneously; Earth overcoming is severe. If it arrives later, Earth overcoming is mild. Subsequently, cyan/green Qi arrives; if large, Wood restoration is large; if small, Wood restoration is small.
13. Xin You Year: Xin Water movement is deficient; You is a Yin year. Why subtract eight ke? Because You belongs to Dui, whose number is seven. Water movement is deficient, following the generating number one. One plus seven equals eight; therefore, subtract eight ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Xu direction and observe. First, warm white Qi appears. After it disappears, black Qi flows horizontally from the Xin direction to the You direction until it ends. Yellow Qi arrives simultaneously; Earth overcoming is severe. If it arrives later, Earth overcoming is mild. Subsequently, cyan/green Qi arrives; if large, Wood restoration is large; if small, Wood restoration is small.
14. Xin Si Year: Xin Water movement is deficient; Si is a Yin year. Why subtract five ke? Because Si belongs to Xun, whose number is four. Xin Water movement is deficient, following the generating number one. One plus four equals five; therefore, subtract five ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Xu direction and observe. First, warm white Qi appears. After it disappears, black Qi flows horizontally from the Xin direction to the Si direction until it ends. Yellow Qi arrives simultaneously; Earth overcoming is large. If it arrives later, Earth overcoming is mild. Subsequently, cyan/green Qi arrives; if large, Wood restoration is large; if small, Wood restoration is small.
15. Xin Hai Year: Xin Water movement is deficient; Hai is a Yin year. Why subtract seven ke? Because Hai belongs to Qian, whose number is six. Xin Water movement is deficient, following the generating number one. One plus six equals seven; therefore, subtract seven ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Xu direction and observe. First, warm white Qi appears. After it disappears, black Qi flows horizontally from the Xin direction to the Hai direction until it ends. Yellow Qi arrives simultaneously; Earth overcoming is severe. If it arrives later, Earth overcoming is mild. Subsequently, cyan/green Qi arrives; if large, Wood restoration is large; if small, Wood restoration is small.
16. Gui Chou Year: Gui Fire movement is deficient; Chou is a Yin year. Why subtract seven ke? Because Chou belongs to Earth, whose number is five. Gui Fire movement is deficient, with the number two (Fire's generation number). Two plus five equals seven; therefore, subtract seven ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Chou direction and observe. Gui originally resides in Chou. First, blue-green Qi appears. After it disappears, red Qi rises straight up to the sky. Because Gui and Chou belong to the same household (residence relationship), it does not flow horizontally. The color is pale. Black Qi appears simultaneously; Water overcoming is severe. If it arrives later, Water overcoming is mild. Subsequently, yellow Qi arrives; if large, Earth restoration is large; if small, Earth restoration is small.
17. Gui Wei Year: Gui Fire movement is deficient; Wei is a Yin year. Why subtract seven ke? Because Wei belongs to Earth, whose number is five. Gui Fire movement is deficient, with the number two. Two plus five equals seven; therefore, subtract seven ke. At the time of movement transition, face the Chou direction and observe. First, blue-green Qi appears. After it disappears, red Qi flows horizontally from the Gui direction to the Wei direction. The color is pale, and its movement is slow. Black Qi arrives simultaneously; Water overcoming is severe. If it arrives later, Water overcoming is mild. Subsequently, yellow Qi arrives; if large, Earth restoration is large; if small, Earth restoration is small.
Sixteen Methods for Balanced Qi Movements, Actually Thirteen Methods (Among the four Sui Hui [Year Meetings], three are excluded as Tong Tian Fu [Same Heaven符], leaving thirteen).
1. Ji Wei Year: Ji Earth movement is Yin and should be deficient. Wei is a Yin year. Above, Taiyin Earth governs the Sky (Si Tian), harmonizing with its virtue, thus called "Tian Fu" (Heaven符). It conforms to the correct Ji Earth movement, so there is no evil suppression, called "Ping Qi" (Balanced Qi). The day the Qi arrives is the same as the day of the Si Tian. Calculation: Wei (Earth) subtracts five; Ji Earth movement adds five. One added, one subtracted, so it is neither deficient nor excessive. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. Ji originally resides in Wei. First, purple Qi appears. After it disappears, yellow Qi rises upward to meet the Heaven. Heaven also has yellow Qi connecting, so the Heaven Qi is identical, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
2. Ji Chou Year: Ji Earth movement should be deficient; Chou is a Yin year. Above, Taiyin Earth governs the Sky, harmonizing with its virtue, called "Tian Fu". Calculation: Chou subtracts five; Earth movement adds five. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. First, purple Qi appears. After it disappears, yellow Qi flows horizontally from the Ji direction to the Chou direction. Heaven has yellow Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
3. Yi You Year: Yi Metal movement should be deficient; You is a Yin year. Above, Yangming Metal governs the Sky, and it is also a Sui Hui (You is also Metal). Calculation: You subtracts seven; Metal movement adds seven. At the time of movement transition, face the Chen direction and observe. First, green Qi appears. After it disappears, white Qi flows horizontally from the Yi direction to the You direction. Heaven has white Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
4. Yi Mao Year: Yi Metal movement should be deficient; Mao is a Yin year. Above, Yangming Metal governs the Sky, named "Tian Fu", harmonizing with its virtue. Calculation: Mao (Zhen) subtracts three; Yi Metal movement adds seven. At the time of movement transition, face the Chen direction and observe. First, green Qi appears. After it disappears, white Qi flows horizontally from the Yi direction to the Mao direction. Heaven has white Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
5. Ding Hai Year: Ding Wood movement should be deficient; Hai is a Yin year. Above, Jueyin Wood governs the Sky, harmonizing with its virtue, called "Tian Fu". Calculation: Hai (Qian) subtracts six; Ding Wood movement adds eight. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. First, red Qi appears. After it disappears, cyan/green Qi flows horizontally from the Ding direction to the Hai direction. Heaven has red Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
6. Ding Si Year: Ding Wood movement should be deficient; Si is a Yin year. Above, Jueyin Wood governs the Sky, harmonizing with its virtue, called "Tian Fu". Calculation: Si subtracts four; Ding Wood movement adds eight. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. First, red Qi appears. After it disappears, cyan/green Qi flows horizontally from the Ding direction to the Si direction. Heaven has red Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious. (The above six are all Tian Fu Ping Qi).
7. Gui Si Year: Gui Fire movement should be deficient; Si is a Yin year. Below, Shaoyang Minister Fire governs the Spring (Zai Quan), harmonizing with the Earth's governance below, named "Tong Sui Hui" (Same Year Meeting). Calculation: Si subtracts four; Gui Fire movement adds seven. At the time of movement transition, face the Chou direction and observe. First, blue-green Qi appears. After it disappears, red Qi flows horizontally from the Gui direction to the Si direction. Earth has red Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
8. Gui Hai Year: Gui Fire movement should be deficient; Hai is a Yin year. Below, Shaoyang Minister Fire governs the Spring, harmonizing with the Earth's governance below, called "Tong Sui Hui". Calculation: Hai subtracts six; Gui Fire movement adds seven. At the time of movement transition, face the Chou direction and observe. First, blue-green Qi appears. After it disappears, red Qi flows horizontally from the Gui direction to the Hai direction. Earth has red Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
9. Xin Chou Year: Xin Water movement should be deficient; Chou is a Yin year. Below, Taiyang Cold Water governs the Spring, harmonizing with the Water's governance below, thus called "Tong Sui Hui". Calculation: Chou subtracts five; Water movement adds six. At the time of movement transition, face the Xu direction and observe. First, warm white Qi appears. Then black Qi flows horizontally from the Xin direction to the Chou direction. Earth has black Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
10. Xin Wei Year: Xin Water movement should be deficient; Wei is a Yin year. Below, Taiyang Cold Water governs the Spring, harmonizing with the Water's governance below, called "Tong Sui Hui". Calculation: Wei subtracts five; Xin Water movement adds six. At the time of movement transition, face the Xu direction and observe. First, warm white Qi appears. After it disappears, black Qi flows horizontally from the Xin direction to the Wei direction. Earth has black Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
11. Gui Mao Year: Gui Fire movement should be deficient; Mao is a Yin year. Below, Shaoyin Sovereign Fire governs the Spring, harmonizing with the Fire's governance below, called "Tong Sui Hui". Calculation: Mao subtracts three; Gui Fire movement adds seven. At the time of movement transition, face the Chou direction and observe. First, blue-green Qi appears. After it disappears, red Qi flows horizontally from the Gui direction to the Mao direction. Earth has red Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
12. Gui You Year: Gui Fire movement should be deficient; You is a Yin year. Below, Shaoyin Sovereign Fire governs the Spring, harmonizing with the Fire's governance below, called "Tong Sui Hui". Calculation: You subtracts seven; Gui Fire movement adds seven. At the time of movement transition, face the Chou direction and observe. First, blue-green Qi appears. After it disappears, red Qi flows horizontally from the Gui direction to the You direction. Earth has red Qi combining, with no other mixed colors, auspicious.
13. Ding Mao Year: Ding Wood movement should be deficient; Mao is a Yin year. Mao is also Wood; Mao Wood combines, thus obtaining the "Zheng Sui Hui" (True Year Meeting). Mao subtracts three; Ding Wood movement adds eight. At the time of movement transition, face the Wei direction and observe. First, red Qi appears. After it disappears, cyan/green Qi flows horizontally from the Ding direction to the Mao direction. There is separate cyan/green Qi welcoming at Mao, hence named "Sui Hui". There are four types of Sui Hui; now discussing this one case, with three others distinct, thus similar to Tian Fu. These are the three years: Yi You, Ji Wei, and Ji Chou. Therefore, among the sixteen Ping Qi numbers, they actually occupy thirteen years.
