Its corresponding Zang organ is the Spleen (Pí, 脾), its associated fruits are plums (Lǐ, 李) and chestnuts (Lì, 栗). The fruit's characteristic is soft flesh and hard pits. (Rú, refers to juicy flesh; Hé, refers to the hard pit. Note: Xin Zheng Jiao states: "Carefully examining the context where 'Ru' and 'Shi' govern water, the character 'Ru' here should be read as 'Rou' (flesh); Wang Bing's annotation is also incorrect.") Its associated grains are beans (Dòu, 豆) and hemp (Má, 麻). (Beans belong to Water; Hemp belongs to Wood.) Its associated flavors are Sour (Suān, 酸) and Sweet (Gān, 甘). (Note: Sweet flavor belongs to Spleen Earth; Sour flavor belongs to Liver Wood.) Its associated colors are Cang (dark green/blue-green, Cāng, 苍) and Yellow (Huáng, 黄). (Note: Yellow is the color of Earth; Cang is the color of Wood.) Its associated domestic animals are cattle (Niú, 牛) and dogs (Quǎn, 狗). (Earth follows Wood in animal association.) Its associated insects are Hairy Ones (Máo, 毛 - mammals/beasts). (Following Hair transformation.) Its climatic manifestations are drifting, anger, trembling, and sprouting, (These are the functions of Wood Qi.) Its musical tones are Gong (Palace, Gōng, 宫) and Jue (Ang, Jué, 角). (Gong derives from Jue.) Its diseases include stagnation, fullness, and obstruction/blockage, (Note: Earth is diseased because it is controlled by Wood.) This is due to following the transformation of Wood. (Note: When Wood is strong and overcomes Earth, it is called "Ke" (control/overcome); when Earth is weak and controlled by Wood, it is called "Cong" (following/complying).) Shao Gong (Lesser Palace) transport is identical to Shao Jue (Lesser Ang). (Note: Xin Zheng Jiao states: "Examining the six years of Shao Gong transport, except for Ji Chou and Ji Wei years which are identical to Zheng Gong, and Ji Si and Ji Hai years which are identical to Zheng Jue, there are two years, Ji Mao and Ji You, where Shao Gong is identical to Shao Jue; hence, it does not say 'Pan Jue'.") Shang Gong (Upper Palace) transport is identical to Zheng Gong (Regular Palace). (When Shang appears with Tai Yin, it is identical to the normal Earth transport's generation and transformation; this is seen in Ji Chou and Ji Wei years.) Shang Jue (Upper Ang) transport is identical to Zheng Jue (Regular Ang). (When Shang appears with Jue Yin, it is entirely the Fu He era; this is seen in Ji Hai and Ji Si years.) Its disease is undigested diarrhea (Sun Xie, 飧泄), caused by pathogenic factors injuring the Spleen. (Note: Pathogen refers to Wood.) If wind violently shakes and pulls, causing leaves to scatter, then trees will dry and fall, (Note: When Wood is excessively strong, Metal arises to balance it, taking revenge for Earth.) Its disaster occurs at the Four Corners (Si Wei, 四维). (Note: Si Wei refers to the four corner positions of Earth.) Its dominant disaster animals are tigers and wild wolves, (Four-legged beasts that harm crops and life.) Clear Qi (Metal Qi) is utilized, and the administration of Growth (Wood Qi) is humiliated. (When Metal Qi prevails, Wood Qi is constrained.)

The Ji of Cong Ge (Transforming/Metal Deficiency) is called Zhe Shou (Broken Harvest). (Fire breaks Metal's harvest Qi, referring to Yi Chou, Yi Hai, Yi You, Yi Wei, Yi Si, and Yi Mao years.) Harvest Qi lags behind, while Growth Qi expands. (Hou means untimely/delayed.) The virtue of Long Yang (Growth and Combination) is declared, Fire administration is proclaimed, and all things become abundant. (Note: When Metal is weak, Wood has no fear, and aided by Fire and Earth, it flourishes.) Its Qi is soaring, its function is restless and urgent. (Note: When Metal is insufficient, it is controlled by Fire and moves according to Fire's nature.) Its movement manifests as coughing (Keng, 铿), blockage of the two orifices (Jin, 禁), mental cloudiness (Mao, 瞀), and reversal (Jue, 厥). (Keng is the sound of coughing; Jin refers to the blockage of the two yin orifices [urethra and anus]; Mao is stifling sensation; Jue refers to rebellious Qi rising.) Its outbreak involves cough and wheezing. Its Zang organ is the Lung (Fèi, 肺). (Cough is Su; Wheezing is rapid breathing; both are Lung diseases.) Its fruits are plums and apricots. Its solid part features shells and networks. Its grains are hemp and wheat. Its flavors are Bitter (Kǔ, 苦) and Pungent (Xīn, 辛). Its colors are White (Bái, 白) and Dan (red/cinnabar, Dān, 丹). Its animals are chickens and sheep. Its insects are Armored Ones (Jiè, 介) and Feathered Ones (Yǔ, 羽). Its climatic manifestation is bright brilliance and scorching heat. Its tones are Shang (Commercial, Shāng, 商) and Zhi (Chang, Zhǐ, 徵). Its diseases are sneezing, coughing, nasal congestion, and epistaxis. This is due to following the transformation of Fire. (When Fire Qi comes to prevail, it yields to follow it.) Shao Shang (Lesser Commercial) transport is identical to Shao Zhi (Lesser Chang). (Metal is deficient, so it partially follows Fire transformation. Note: Xin Zheng Jiao states: "Examining the six years of Shao Shang transport, except for Yi Mao and Yi You years identical to Zheng Shang, and Yi Si and Yi Hai years identical to Zheng Jue, Yi Wei and Yi Chou years are Shao Shang identical to Shao Zhi; hence, it does not say 'Pan Zhi'.") Shang Shang (Upper Commercial) transport is identical to Zheng Shang (Regular Commercial). (When Shang appears with Yang Ming, it is identical to normal Metal transport; seen in Yi Si and Yi Hai years. Note: Xin Zheng Jiao states: "Metal and Earth do not overcome each other, hence the text does not mention Shang Gong being identical to Zheng Gong.") Pathogenic factors injure the Lung. (Note: Pathogen refers to Fire.) If the flame is blazing, then ice, snow, frost, and hail appear. (Note: Fire scorches Metal, Water acts as Metal's repelling force. Bao is hail.) Disaster occurs at Seven (Western direction). (Seven refers to the West.) Its dominant disaster animals are scaled ones,潜伏 pigs, and mice. Early arrival of year Qi generates severe cold. (This is Water's transformation. Note: The character 'Fu' may be erroneous.)

The Ji of He Liu (Dried Stream) is called Fan Yang (Reverse Yang). (Yin Qi is insufficient, replaced by Yang Qi; refers to Xin Wei, Xin Si, Xin Mao, Xin You, Xin Hai, and Xin Chou years.) The command of Storage is not raised; the Qi of Transformation prospers. (Little Water, abundant Earth.) The Qi of Growth is announced; hibernating insects do not store; the earth is moist; springs diminish; grass and trees flourish abundantly. (The Qi of Long Hua is rich and dense.) Its Qi is stagnant; its function is seeping and draining. (Note: Zhi means flow without passage, accumulation. Shen Xie means passage without flow, water leaking from cracks. Both result from weak Water.) Its movement is hardness and constipation. (Refers to stool. Little Water fails to moisten, leading to dryness and hardness.) Its outbreak is dryness and withering. Its Zang organ is the Kidney (Shèn, 肾). (Yin is scarce, Yang is abundant.) Its fruits are dates and apricots. Its solid part is soft flesh. Its grains are millet (Shǔ, 黍) and foxtail millet (Jì, 稷). (Note: Xin Zheng Jiao states: "In the previous section of this treatise, Wheat is the grain of Fire; here Millet is mentioned, suspecting Wheat is an error. Although *Jin Kui Zhen Yan Lun* says Millet, this treatise says Wheat; one should follow this text. Note: Shǔ is modern small millet, ripening late summer/early autumn; Mai ripens before Summer Solstice; both correspond to Fire season; thus the text preserves both, showing the corrector's error.") Its flavors are Sweet and Salty (Xián, 咸). Its color is Black/Xuan (Xuán, 玄). Its animals are pigs and cattle. Its insects are scaled ones. Its climatic manifestation is dust, depression, darkness, and obscurity. Its tones are Yu (Song, Yǔ, 羽) and Gong. Its diseases are flaccidity (Wei, 痿), reversal (Jue), and lower hardness. This is due to following the transformation of Earth. (Note: When Earth is weak and cannot govern itself, it follows the overcoming element.) Shao Yu (Lesser Song) transport is identical to Shao Gong (Lesser Palace). (Water and Earth transform equally half-and-half. Note: Xin Zheng Jiao states: "Examining the six years of Shao Yu transport, except for Xin Chou and Xin Wei years identical to Zheng Gong, Xin Mao, Xin You, Xin Si, and Xin Hai years are identical to Shao Gong; hence, it does not say 'Pan Gong'.") Shang Gong transport is identical to Zheng Gong. (When Shang appears with Tai Yin, it is identical to normal Earth transport; seen in Xin Chou and Xin Wei years. Note: Xin Zheng Jiao states: "Examining why Shang Jue and Shang Shang are not mentioned, it is because Water does not overcome or punish Metal and Wood.") Its disease is strangury (Long, 癃) and retention (Bi, 闭). (Long is urinary obstruction; Bi is dry, difficult defecation.) Pathogenic factors injure the Kidney. (Note: Pathogen is Earth.) Dust, darkness, and sudden rain cause violent shaking and uprooting. (Note: When Earth tyranny prevails, Wood acts as a repelling force.) Disaster occurs at One (Northern direction). (One refers to the North. Fang refers to the direction of a state or county.) Its dominant disaster animals are hairy ones, foxes, and martens, changing unpredictably and failing to hide. (Note: Mao refers to hairy insects. Among hairy insects, foxes and martens are most notable for change. Since Northern Qi is now weak, even those good at changing cannot hide their utility well.)

Therefore, acting upon danger leads to unsummoned arrival; imposing might without virtue brings disaster back upon oneself. Minor retribution is minor; major retribution is major. This is the constant law of Qi. (General statement on the general principles of winning and repelling when Five Elements Qi is deficient. Taking advantage of another's vulnerability, relying on one's own strength, coming without summons, and exercising cruelty invites resentment and disaster. For example, if Wood is weak and Metal attacks, the sudden blaze is devoid of virtue. If Wood is harmed by Metal, Fire will seek revenge; if Metal is burned by Fire, disaster ensues. Thus, heavy punishment brings heavy retribution, light punishment brings light retribution; this is the constant nature of Qi movement, inherent in the logic of the Five Elements.)

The Ji of Fa Sheng (Initiating Generation) is called Qi Chen (Opening Old). (Things generate via Wood Qi, opening the old to reveal new form; refers to Ren Shen, Ren Wu, Ren Chen, Ren Yin, Ren Xu, Ren Zi years. HT is the ancient character for Chen.) Earth Qi drains and disperses; Cang (Wood) Qi reaches; Yang Harmony spreads transformation; Yin Qi follows; Sheng Qi purifies and transforms; all things flourish. Its transformation is Birth; its Qi is beautiful; its administration is scattered; its orders are flexible and comfortable. (Note: When Wood is surplus, Qi is vigorous and flexible, generating and transforming naturally, becoming glorious and beautiful.) Its movement causes tremors, dizziness, and disorders of the vertex. (Diao is trembling; Xuan is spinning; Dian is the head top; Ji is disease Qi. Note: Excess Wood generates Wind, causing trembling and dizziness at the vertex, or pain/swelling. The annotation splitting Dian Ji is incorrect.) Its virtue is sounding, rotting, opening, and splitting. (Note: 'Mi' is hard to interpret; *Liu Yuan Zheng Ji Da Lun* says "Qi Hua Ming Wen Qi Che", which is correct.) Its change is violent shaking and uprooting. (Due to Wind movement.) Its grains are hemp and rice. Its animals are chickens and dogs. Its fruits are plums and peaches. Its colors are Green, Yellow, and White. Its flavors are Sour, Sweet, and Pungent. (Note: Wood excess aligns with Metal transformation; excess is sufficient to encompass what it overcomes.) Its image corresponds to Spring. Its meridians are Foot Jue Yin and Foot Shaoyang. Its Zang organs are Liver and Spleen. (Note: It should say Liver/Gallbladder, but says Liver/Spleen because Wood excess controls Earth, hence mentioning Spleen.) Its insects are Hairy and Armored. (Also aligning with Metal.) Its objects have hard centers and hard exteriors. (Hard center refers to seeded items, equal to shell types.) Its disease is anger. (Due to Wood surplus. Note: Unfairness in heart leads to anger; anger causes Qi to surge upward, a Liver disease.) Tai Jue (Excessive Ang) transport is identical to Shang Shang (Upper Commercial). (Excessive Wood Qi equals Metal transformation.) Shang Zhi (Upper Chang) causes rebellious Qi, leading to vomiting and diarrhea. (When Shang appears with Shao Yin/Shao Yang, Qi rebels. Ren Zi/Wu see Shao Yin; Ren Yin/Shen see Shao Yang. Wood surplus meeting Fire makes Qi unsmooth. Note: Xin Zheng Jiao states: "*Wu Yun Xing Da Lun* says: 'Disease from compatible Qi occurs when lower oversees upper, improper position.' It doesn't mention Shang Yu because Water overseeing Wood is compatible.") If it does not practice its virtue, Harvest Qi returns; Autumn Qi becomes sharp and cutting; even severe肃杀 (killing/cold); Clear Qi arrives greatly; grass and trees wither; pathogens injure the Liver. (Relying on excess, offending Earth, Earth accumulates to extreme, Metal takes revenge, Metal executes killing order, thus pathogen injures Liver Wood.)

The Ji of He Xi (Blazing Sun) is called Fan Mao (Flourishing Lushness). (Things meet Solar Fire, becoming lush; refers to Wu Chen, Wu Yin, Wu Zi, Wu Xu, Wu Shen, Wu Wu years. Note: Xin Zheng Jiao states: Some say 'Tai Yang' in annotation should be 'Tai Zhi'. Examining Wood, Earth, Metal, Water excess, annotations don't mention Jue, Gong, Shang, Yu transports, but Water excess says 'Yin Qi Greatly Acts'; here Fire excess says 'Things meet Tai Yang', how can it be called Tai Zhi?) Yin Qi transforms internally; Yang Qi glorifies externally; Heat and Summer administer transformation; things prosper. (Note: Qi abundance gives power to generation/transformation.) Its transformation is Long (Growth); its Qi is high; its administration is active; its orders are loud and manifest. (Fire's use produces sound; Fire's burning produces flame; image is unhidden, thus it is trustworthy.) Its movement is scorching heat and reckless disturbance. (Note: Wang Rao means Fire moves irregularly.) Its virtue is warm summer and muggy evaporation; its change is fierce fire and boiling. (Note: Summer Fire's norm is heat. Warm/muggy evaporation aids propagation; fierce fire/boiling causes scorching/withering. Virtue and Change are distinguished here.) Its grains are Wheat and Beans. Its animals are Sheep and Pigs. (Note: Xin Zheng Jiao says Sheep should be Horse per earlier text. Horses drink at Wu, Sheep eat at Wu; both are Fire animals; text stating both is appropriate.) Its fruits are Apricots and Chestnuts. Its colors are Red, White, and Black. Its flavors are Bitter, Pungent, and Salty. (Note: All represent Fire excess aligning with Water transformation.) Its image corresponds to Summer. Its meridians are Hand Shao Yin, Hand Tai Yang, Hand Jue Yin, Hand Shaoyang. (Note: These four meridians correspond to Fire.) Its Zang organs are Heart and Lung. (Note: Fire King punishes Metal.) Its insects are Feathered and Scaled. Its objects are pulpy and soft. (Mai is Fire object; Ru is Water object; Water/Fire align.) Its diseases are laughter, malaria, sores/ulcers, blood flow, madness, red eyes. (Due to Fire excess.) Shang Yu (Upper Song) transport is identical to Zheng Zhi (Regular Chang); its harvest is equal. (When Shang appears with Tai Yang, Heaven's Qi is restrained, so excessive Fire matches normal Fire transport; seen in Wu Chen/Wu Xu years. If normal Fire transport matches, Five Regular Qi do not offend, so Metal Harvest Qi generation/transformation is equal.) Its disease is... (Text missing/garbled). Shang Zhi causes delayed harvest. (When Shang appears with Shao Yin/Shao Yang, generation/transformation governs itself; Metal Qi cannot match; Wu Zi/Wu see Shao Yin; Wu Yin/Shen see Shao Yang; Fire excess delays Harvest Qi transformation.) If administration is violent, Zang Qi returns; times show condensation and gloom; even severe rain, ice, frost, hail, and biting cold; pathogens injure the Heart. (Not practicing virtue, causing light insult.)

The Ji of Dun Fu (Piled High Earth) is called Guang Hua (Broad Transformation). (Earth surplus, so transformation Qi broadly covers things; refers to Jia Zi, Jia Xu, Jia Shen, Jia Wu, Jia Chen, Jia Yin years.) Thick virtue, clear and quiet; following growth to fill. (Earth nature is compliant, not competing with things, so virtue is thick but not restless. Following Fire's nurturing, making things' transformation Qi full.) Supreme Yin is solid inside; things transform and complete. (Supreme Yin is Earth's essence. Things transform via Supreme Yin's spiritual Qi generated within.) Smoke and dust are misty and depressed, seen in thick earth; heavy rain occurs frequently; Wet Qi is utilized; Dry administration retreats. (Note: Thicker Earth means wetter Qi; once Wet Qi acts, Dry Qi retreats. Pi sounds like Bi.) Its transformation is Round. (Note: Earth virtue is originally square, but Earth nourishes all things, carrying everything; thus body is square, function is round.) Its Qi is abundant; its administration is quiet; its orders are comprehensive. (Note: Abundant, thick, quiet, nothing is absent.) Its movement is dampness, accumulation, and protrusion. (Note: Thick Earth causes Wet Qi to stagnate and accumulate.) Its virtue is soft, moist, heavy, and muddy. (Note: Wet Earth mud is called Nao; Heavy Nao is extreme moisture.) Its change is shock, gusts, storms, and collapse. (Note: Extreme Earth excess causes Wood to punish it, leading to collapse/change.) Its grains are Foxtail Millet and Hemp. Its animals are Cattle and Dogs. Its fruits are Dates and Plums. Its colors are Black and Cang. Its flavors are Sweet, Salty, and Sour. (Note: Earth aligns with Wood transformation.) Its image corresponds to Late Summer. Its meridians are Foot Taiyin and Foot Yangming. (Spleen and Stomach.) Its Zang organs are Spleen and Kidney. (Note: Earth overcomes Water.) Its insects are Hairy. Its objects are fleshy and seeded. (Note: Earth combines with Wood transformation.) Its disease is abdominal fullness and inability to move limbs. (Note: Earth excess self-diseases. Xin Zheng Jiao states: "Examining why Shang Yu and Shang Zhi are not mentioned, Zhi and Yu cannot diminish/full Earth, so no other signs.") Swift great winds arrive; pathogens injure the Spleen. (Note: Wood dislikes Earth's excess and punishes it.)

The Ji of Jian Cheng (Firm Completion) is called Shou Yin (Harvest Contraction). (Yin means contraction. Yang Qi contracts, Yin Qi acts, so all things contract; refers to Geng Wu, Geng Chen, Geng Yin, Geng Zi, Geng Xu, Geng Shen years.) Heaven Qi is clean; Earth Qi is bright; Yang Qi follows Yin to govern transformation. (Note: Autumn air is clean; Yang retreats to Yin.) Dry Qi administers its policy; things manage completion; Harvest Qi distributes profusely; Transformation Qi does not finish. Its transformation is Completion; its Qi is diminished; its administration is solemn; its orders are sharp and cutting. Its movement is sudden fracture, ulcers, and infectious diseases. Its virtue is fog, dew, and solemnity. Its change is killing and withering. (Note: Dry policy greatly acts; Heaven Qi is solemn; things already ripe are harvested, unripe wither, and Earth transformation cannot finish its use.) Its grains are Rice and Millet. Its animals are Chickens and Horses. Its fruits are Peaches and Apricots. Its colors are White, Green, and Dan. Its flavors are Pungent, Sour, and Bitter. (Note: Metal excess aligns with Fire transformation.) Its image corresponds to Autumn. Its meridians are Hand Taiyin and Hand Yangming. (Taiyin is Lung; Yangming is Large Intestine.) Its Zang organs are Lung and Liver. (Note: Metal overcomes Wood.) Its insects are Armored and Feathered. Its objects are shelled and networked. (Note: Metal surplus combines with Fire transformation.) Its disease is wheezing and drinking, chest reliance, and仰息 (breathing with head tilted back). (Note: Lung surplus self-diseases.) Shang Zhi (Upper Chang) transport is identical to Zheng Shang (Regular Commercial); its generation is equal; its disease is cough. (When Shang appears with Shao Yin/Shao Yang, Heaven Qi is suppressed, so generation/transformation matches normal Metal years; Geng Zi/Wu see Shao Yin; Geng Yin/Shen see Shao Yang; Upper Fire controls Metal, so Sheng Qi matches transformation; Fire invades Metal/Lung, so disease is cough.) If administration changes violently, famous trees do not flourish; tender/brittle parts scorch at the head; Long Qi comes to save; Great Fire flows; scorching heat arrives; vines wither; pathogens injure the Lung. (Bian means excessive. Administration too excessive suppresses Sheng Qi, so Wood does not flourish, grass heads scorch and die. If violent administration continues, Fire Qi gets angry, so Fire flows, scorching heat arrives, tender/vine-like things dry and die. Fire invades Metal Qi, so Lung is injured. Note: Jiu (save) means Fire is Wood's child; when Wood is hurt by Metal, the child saves the mother.)

The Ji of Liu Yan (Flowing Overflow) is called Feng Cang (Sealed Storage). (Yin Qi greatly acts, so Heaven and Earth undergo sealed storage transformation; refers to Bing Yin, Bing Zi, Bing Xu, Bing Shen, Bing Wu, Bing Chen years.) Cold governs thing transformation; Heaven and Earth are strict and condensed; Storage policy is distributed; Growth command is not raised. (Storage Qi acts, so Growth transformation stops, hence command is not raised.) Its transformation is chilling; its Qi is firm; its administration is quiet. (Note: In severe cold, things do not rot; Qi is firm. Mi is quiet; Winter stores all things quietly.) Its order is flowing and circulating. (Image of Water.) Its movement is floating, draining, foaming, and surging. (Wo is foam; Yong is surging. Note: Still Water stops; moving Water has six different states.) Its virtue is condensed, gloomy, and cold. Its change is ice, snow, frost, and hail. (Note: Things are not solid without cold, so condensed/gloomy/cold is virtue. Qi is balanced by harmony, so ice/snow/frost/hail is change. Fen sounds like Fen.) Its grains are Beans and Foxtail Millet. Its animals are Pigs and Cattle. Its fruits are Chestnuts and Dates. Its colors are Black and Dan. Its flavors are Salty, Bitter, and Sweet. (Note: Water excess aligns with Earth transformation.) Its image corresponds to Winter. Its meridians are Foot Shaoyin and Foot Taiyang. (Shaoyin is Kidney; Taiyang is Bladder.) Its Zang organs are Kidney and Heart. (Note: Water overcomes Fire.) Its insects are Scaled. Its objects are soft and full. (Note: Water surplus combines with Earth transformation.) Its disease is distension. (Water surplus.) Shang Yu (Upper Song) causes Growth Qi not to transform. (When Shang appears with Tai Yang, Fire cannot spread transformation to nurture; Bing Chen/Xu years see Tian Fu Water Transport. Note: Xin Zheng Jiao states: "Does not mention Shang Zhi because it is the transported overcoming element.") If administration exceeds, Transformation Qi greatly rises, and dust/darkness Qi intersects; heavy rain falls often; pathogens injure the Kidney. (Violent cold frequently rises, called administration excess. Fire is oppressed by Water, Earth seeks revenge, so Heaven/Earth are dim, Earth/Water Qi intersect, heavy rain falls, and pathogen injures Kidney.) Therefore it is said: If virtue is not constant, the overcome element returns; if administration constantly follows its principle, the overcome element transforms together. This is what is meant. (Bu Heng means relying on one's own excess to offend the unconquerable; Heng means maintaining constant transformation, not exercising cruel punishment; thus the controlling Qi's year matches governance. Note: Summary of the above three Qi. Zheng Heng Qi Li refers to Ping Qi; Bu Heng Qi De includes both excess and deficiency.)

The Emperor said: Heaven is insufficient in the Northwest, left cold and right cool; Earth is incomplete in the Southeast, right hot and left warm. What is the reason? (Speaking facing Xun/South.) Qibo said: The Qi of Yin and Yang, the principle of height and depth, the difference of Shao and Tai. (Height/depth refers to terrain. Shao/Tai refers to Yin/Yang Qi, difference in prosperity/decline. Central Plains terrain: Northwest high, Southeast low; West cool, North cold, East warm, South hot; Qi transformation is thus.) The Southeast is Yang; Yang's essence descends downward, hence right hot and left warm. The Northwest is Yin; Yin's essence is offered upward, hence left cold and right cool. (Yang essence descends, so Earth is known to be warm below. Yang Qi is born in East and prosperous in South, hence East is warm
