[Haiguan (Knee Joint) Appendix] (The area where the lower thigh meets the upper knee. The junction of the knee bones is called Haiguan.) It primarily belongs to the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian and the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (*Suwen* states: In Jueyin Jue, patients prefer lying down with bent knees, experiencing genital retraction, swelling, and internal heat. Li Dongyuan states: Flaccidity and weakness of the feet and knees, fatigue or pain in walking, are caused by latent heat in the Liver and Kidney meridians. Wang Haicang states: Mu Gua (Fructus Chaenomelis) enters the Liver Meridian, thus benefiting sinews and blood; it is indispensable for treating weakness of the waist, kidneys, and knees.) Additionally, it belongs to the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian and the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian (*Ling Shu* states: The Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian ascends along the anterior medial aspect of the thigh and leg, entering the abdomen. Diseases generated by this meridian include inability to lie flat, swelling and coldness in the medial thigh and knee when standing forcibly. It also states: The sinews of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian ascend and knot at the lateral aspect of the knee.) It also belongs to the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian (*Ling Shu* states: The sinews of the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian follow the lateral aspect of the leg and knot at the lateral aspect of the knee; their disease manifests as inability to flex or extend the knee. *Suwen* states: For Shaoyang-type lower back pain, bleed the end of Chenggu (Chenggu bone). Chenggu refers to the solitary protruding bone on the lateral aspect of the knee; bleeding should be avoided in summer. Shen Chengzhi states: The fibula (auxiliary bone) on the lateral aspect of the knee belongs to the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian; the anterolateral aspect belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian; the head of the transverse crease at the medial flexion of the knee belongs to the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian; the anteromedial aspect belongs to the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian).
(Refers to the Patella, also known as Lianhai Bone.) It primarily belongs to the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian (*Suwen* states: Needling the patellar region causing fluid discharge leads to claudication. Commentary: The knee is the mansion of sinews, where sinews converge; if fluid discharges, sinews dry out, leading to claudication.) [Medial Aspect] belongs to the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian. [Lateral Aspect] belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian (*Suwen* states: Needling Sanmai vessels located between the muscle and bone anterior to the knee, specifically the collateral vessels binding the lateral aspect, divided into three branches. Commentary: The collateral vessels on the lateral aspect refer to the visible cyanotic collaterals of the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian. *Ling Shu* states: The Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian reaches Futu, descends through the middle of the patella. Diseases generated by this meridian include swelling and pain in the knee and patella).
(The posterior flexure of the knee, corresponding to the location of Weizhong Acupoint.) It primarily belongs to the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (*Ling Shu* states: The proper qi of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian reaches the popliteal fossa, diverges to join the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian. It also states: When pathogenic factors reside in the Kidneys, their qi remains in the two popliteal fossae. *Suwen* states: For knee pain resembling separation, treat the Ying-Spring points of Juyang (Foot Taiyang) and Shaoyin. Commentary: For pain feeling like separation in the knee, treat the Ying-Spring points of the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian and Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. The Ying-Spring point of the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian is Tonggu; the Ying-Spring point of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian is Ran Gu.) Additionally, it belongs to the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian (*Ling Shu* states: The sinews of the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian follow the heel and knot in the popliteal fossa. It also states: Movement disorders of the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian cause symptoms such as a knotted sensation in the popliteal fossa. It also states: The lateral outer aspect of the popliteal fossa is named Weiyang, which is the collateral vessel of the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian. The Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian acts as the traversing collateral for the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder and Foot Taiyang Bladder meridians; it is a branch of the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian, ascending five cun above the ankle, diverging to penetrate the gastrocnemius muscle, and emerging at Weiyang Acupoint.) It also concurrently belongs to the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) (*Ling Shu* states: The Chong Mai and the large collateral of the Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian follow the anteromedial aspect of the thigh, obliquely entering the popliteal fossa).
