(The character "Ren" implies pregnancy; for women, it governs gestation and nourishment. It runs along the midline of the abdomen and serves as the root of human life and growth. It originates from the Baozhong (uterus/bladder area), ascends to the eyes, and is four chi and five cun in length.) The *Suwen* states: The Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) originates below the Zhongji point (Zhongji, an acupoint located 4 cun below the umbilicus. Below it lies the Qugu point, which is also part of the Huiyin point's distribution). It ascends to the pubic hair margin, follows the interior of the abdomen upward to the Guanyuan point (Guanyuan, located 3 cun below the umbilicus, affiliated with the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian, and is the source of biological transformation), reaching the throat, ascending to the chin, following the face into the eyes (following the Chengjiang point around the lips, ascending to the Yinjiao point where it branches, connecting to the center below both eyes, and terminating at the intersection with the Chengqi point. Chengjiang and Chengqi are both acupoint names; Chengjiang is in the depression below the lower lip, and Chengqi is 7 fen below the eye). It belongs to the Sea of Yin Meridians (This sentence was added by Hua Boren). In disease, men may suffer from internal accumulation of seven types of hernia (internal accumulation in the abdomen, resembling a knot that does not resolve. The seven hernias are: one Jue, two Pan, three Han, four Xia, five Fu, six Mai, and seven Qi). Women may suffer from leukorrhea and mass accumulation (Xia refers to masses formed by pseudo-material shapes. There are eight names: Snake Xia, Fat Xia, Green Xia, Yellow Xia, Dry Xia, Blood Xia, Fox Xia, and Turtle Xia. Ju refers to masses that gather into lumps without fixed locations. Masses accumulating in the abdomen are often caused by stagnant blood).
The *Ling Shu* states: The collateral branch of the Ren Mai is named Wei Yi (Weiyi), descending from the Jiutail point and dispersing into the abdomen. In excess conditions, there is pain in the abdominal skin; in deficiency conditions, there is itching requiring scratching. Treatment should target the point of its branching (Hua Boren stated: The Du Mai (Governing Vessel) and Ren Mai share the same origin but diverge into two paths. The Du Mai travels along the back from the Huiyin point, while the Ren Mai travels along the abdomen from the Huiyin point. Just as heaven and earth have Zi and Wu (North-South), the human body has Ren and Du (Front-Back). They can be divided to show the non-mixing of Yin and Yang, and united to show the seamless wholeness. They are one becoming two, and two becoming one. Shen Chengzhi stated: The Ren and Du meridians intersect above at the Yinjiao point and converge below at the Huiyin point. These two points are the pivots of the two meridians. Therefore, practitioners of cultivation swallow saliva at dawn, taking advantage of the Qi of Yin-Yang intersection between these two meridians).
