Belongs to the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian (The *Ling Shu* states: The Foot-Shaoyang meridian reaches the end of the Jiegu bone, descends and emerges anterior to the lateral malleolus. Diseases occurring in this meridian include pain in the area anterior to the lateral malleolus and in various joints. It also states: The Foot-Shaoyang sinew channel ascends and binds above the lateral malleolus. Furthermore: Below the Foot-Shaoyang, if blood and qi are abundant, the leg hair is beautiful and long, and the lateral malleolus is fleshy; if both blood and qi are deficient, there is no leg hair, and the lateral malleolus is thin without flesh. The *Su Wen* states: Pain in the knees, heaviness and soreness in the calves with inability to stand for long periods, should be treated by the collateral of the Shaoyang of the Foot, located five cun above the lateral malleolus. Note: Yinluo refers to a sensation resembling soreness and weakness. Five cun above the lateral malleolus is the Luo-connecting point Guangming of the Foot-Shaoyang meridian. Shen Chengzhi said: The six meridians of the hand and foot, when dispersed into twelve, follow these rules: From the lower arm to the middle of the lateral aspect, it is the Hand-Shaoyang; at the upper edge of the lateral aspect, it is the Hand-Yangming; at the lower edge of the lateral aspect, it is the Hand-Taiyang. From the thigh down to the leg, at the middle of the lateral aspect, it is the Foot-Shaoyang; at the anterior edge of the lateral aspect, it is the Foot-Yangming; at the posterior edge of the lateral aspect, it is the Foot-Taiyang. From the lower arm to the middle of the medial aspect, it is the Hand-Jueyin; at the upper edge of the medial aspect, it is the Hand-Taiyin; at the lower edge of the medial aspect, it is the Hand-Shaoyin. From the thigh down to the leg, at the middle of the medial aspect, it is the Foot-Jueyin; at the anterior edge of the medial aspect, it is the Foot-Taiyin; at the posterior edge of the medial aspect, it is also the Foot-Taiyin [Note: Textual error likely intended Foot-Shaoyin]. Unified into six main pathways, the rule is: The lateral side is governed by the three Yang meridians, with Shaoyang in the middle, Yangming anteriorly, and Taiyang posteriorly; the medial side is governed by the three Yin meridians, with Jueyin in the middle, Taiyin anteriorly, and Shaoyin posteriorly. Summarized into three main pathways, the rule is: Yangming and Taiyin are exterior-interior pairs, thus residing together anteriorly; Taiyang and Shaoyin are exterior-interior pairs, thus residing together posteriorly; Shaoyang and Jueyin are exterior-interior pairs, thus residing together medially. In the upper limbs they are called Hand meridians, and in the lower limbs Foot meridians. Although they may appear irregular, they are essentially consistent. Understanding this makes it easy to comprehend and remember.) It also belongs to the Yang Qiao Mai (The *Nan Jing* states: The Yang Qiao Mai originates from the center of the heel, follows the lateral malleolus upward, and enters Fengchi).
