The nine acupoints of the Hand-Shaoyin (Heart) Meridian are complete: Jiquan (HT1), Qingling (HT2), and Shaohai (HT3) are deep; from Lingdao (HT4) and Tongli (HT5) one reaches Yinxi (HT6) and Shenmen (HT7), arriving at Shaofu (HT8) and Shaochong (HT9) which can be located.
The Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian originates at Jiquan (HT1), located between the tendons in the axilla, where the artery enters the chest (on the medial aspect of the arm in the axilla, at the arterial pulse between the tendons, entering inward to the chest). Qingling (HT2) is taken three cun above the elbow (extend the arm and raise it to locate). Shaohai (HT3) is five fen distal to the end of the elbow (medial to the elbow joint, lateral to the large bone, five fen from the elbow end; flex the elbow toward the head to find it). Lingdao (HT4) is one and a half cun proximal to the palm crease; Tongli (HT5) is one cun proximal to the wrist crease. Yinxi (HT6) is half a cun proximal to the wrist crease; Shenmen (HT7) is at the prominence of the pisiform bone (Dui Gu) proximal to the palm. Shaofu (HT8) is vertically aligned with Laogong (PC8) posterior to the joint; Shaochong (HT9) is taken on the medial side of the little finger. (Totaling nine acupoints, one on each side, eighteen in total.)
The Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian originates at the tip of the little finger, follows the lateral aspect of the hand upward to the wrist, emerges from the ankle region (distal to the wrist at the pisiform bone), runs straight along the lower medial border of the forearm bone, emerges between the two tendons on the medial side of the elbow, ascends along the posterolateral border of the arm, emerges from the shoulder joint depression (Jiejie), winds around the scapula, intersects at the shoulder, enters the supraclavicular fossa (Quepen), connects with the Heart, follows the pharynx downward through the diaphragm, reaches the Stomach, and belongs to the Small Intestine. Its branch arises from the supraclavicular fossa, follows the neck upward to the cheek, reaches the outer canthus (Wairui), and returns into the ear; another branch diverges from the cheek, ascends to the nasal area, reaches the inner canthus (Neicui), and obliquely connects with the zygomatic bone. When the meridian qi undergoes pathological changes, symptoms include sore throat, submandibular swelling, inability to look back, shoulder pain as if being pulled out, and elbow pain as if broken. This meridian governs diseases generated by fluid metabolism, such as deafness, yellow eyes, facial swelling, and pain along the posterolateral aspect of the neck, jaw, shoulder, elbow, and arm, as well as the aforementioned various conditions.
This passage describes the circulation of Qi in the Small Intestine Meridian, which is the sixth meridian. The end of the arm bone is the wrist; the pisiform bone below the wrist is the "ankle" (Huai); the muscles beside the spine are the Lumbar muscles (Lv); the two bones above the lumbar muscles are the Shoulder Joint (Jiejie); the flat bone of the shoulder joint is the Scapula (Jianjia); the outer corner of the eye is the Outer Canthus (Waimao); the area below the eye is the infraorbital margin; the inner corner of the eye is the Inner Canthus (Neimao). The Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian begins at Shaose (SI1) on the tip of the little finger, receiving the intersection from the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian. From there, it follows the anterior aspect of the lateral side to QianGu (SI12) and HouXi (SI3), ascends to the wrist, emerges from the ankle region, passes through WangGu (SI4), YangGu (SI5), and YangLao (SI6), goes straight up along the lower border of the forearm bone to Zhizheng (SI7), emerges between the two tendons on the medial side of the elbow, passes through Xiaohai (SI8), ascends along the posterolateral border of the arm, running external to the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian and Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian, goes up to the shoulder, passes through JianZhen (SI9), Tianliao (SI10), TianZong (SI11), BingFeng (SI12), QuYuan (SI13), JianWaiShu (SI14), and JianZhongShu (SI15), then ascends to meet at Dazhui (GV14), intersecting left and right above the shoulders. From the intersection at the shoulder, it enters the supraclavicular fossa, descends along the shoulder toward the axilla, at the level of Danzhong (CV17), connects with the Heart, follows the stomach system downward through the diaphragm, passes above Shangwan (CV13), reaches the Stomach, descends external to the Ren Meridian, at the level two cun above the umbilicus, and belongs to the Small Intestine; its branch arises from the supraclavicular fossa, follows TianChuang (SI16) and TianRong (SI17) in the neck, ascends to the cheek and zygoma, reaches the outer canthus, passes through TongziLiao (GB1), returns into the ear, follows TingGong (SI19) to terminate; its separate branch diverges, follows the cheek, ascends to the nasal area and zygoma, reaches the inner canthus Jingming (BL1), and obliquely connects with the zygoma to intersect with the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Therefore, pathological changes manifest as symptoms such as sore throat and submandibular swelling.
