钱峻漫识
1. There are hundreds of prescription books from ancient and modern times, some effective and others not, so they cannot all be adopted. Here, only the most empirically effective ones are collected into one volume.
Therefore, it is named: *Danfang Huibian* (Compilation of Empirical Prescriptions).
2. Since childhood, I have had a keen interest in single-herb prescriptions; whenever I encountered or heard of any, I diligently recorded them in writing. Even if they were precious secrets kept by medical practitioners, I did not hesitate to purchase them with valuable items.
After ten years of searching, I accumulated over eight hundred prescriptions, which proved effective upon repeated trials. This spring, I vowed to make them public to the world. By consulting various prescription books, I came to know that these previously secret records were formulated by famous ancient physicians. Therefore, the source of each prescription is clearly stated below, so that people may know its origin.
3. There are many single-herb prescriptions with miraculous effects for various conditions, but they are too numerous and cumbersome, potentially causing confusion in selection. Therefore, for each condition, only one-tenth are selected to meet urgent needs.
4. Some prescriptions are effective for excess patterns but unsuitable for deficiency patterns, or beneficial for cold patterns but detrimental to heat patterns. These are not arbitrarily included to avoid misleading patients. Even if there are [prescriptions with immediate effects]... (The original text here appears incomplete or implies caution against indiscriminate inclusion).
5. Prescriptions with extreme toxicity or severe side effects are not recklessly recorded. All prescriptions included in this volume have been verified by myself. Please do not fear adjusting dosages, as this may lead to ineffectiveness.
6. Herbal medicines that are difficult for people to identify are not included. Although plasters, pills, and elixirs are indeed miraculous in treating diseases, they require advance preparation and cannot provide immediate relief in emergencies; thus, recording them is of little benefit. However, for those who vow to distribute them for charitable relief, I am not reluctant to allow copying and distribution.
7. I am not good at self-care and have suffered from hemoptysis (coughing up blood) for a long time, making it difficult for me to personally prepare empirical miraculous prescriptions. To disseminate them for the benefit of others and to correct errors in proofreading, my energy was insufficient. I entrusted my friend, Brother Xu Yun, to assist in editing and refining them. His dedication was identical to mine. Now, my old illness has recurred, and my energy is even more depleted. Fortunately, the completion of this book relies largely on the efforts of Friend Xu.
8. Women’s diseases present various symptoms, among which regulating menstruation and protecting pregnancy are the most critical; similarly, in caring for children, nothing is more important than infant protection.
9. I paid special attention to these areas, so they were printed first. However, since they have not yet circulated widely, they are appended hereafter.
10. The empirical prescriptions recorded in this volume are all miraculous. As long as one takes them with faith and consistency, efficacy will surely be achieved. For chronic illnesses, long-term use will naturally lead to recovery; do not expect immediate results... (The original text "speedily expect its..." is incomplete, implying not to rush expectations).
11. Miraculous prescriptions from ancient and modern times are countless, but one person’s collection is limited, and those unencountered are too numerous to list. If colleagues have prescriptions that have been tested repeatedly with consistent results, please copy and show them to me, so they may be added to this volume in the future.
12. It is earnestly hoped that this book will circulate widely. Gentlemen from all directions who vow to print and distribute multiple copies will certainly receive blessings. If reprinting is possible, it would further comfort my humble heart.
