Leprosy (Da Ma Feng)
Take one old toad, 3 qian of White Arsenic (Bai Pi), 2 qian of Copper Green (Tong Lv), and 2 qian of Human Waste Ash (Ren Zhong Bai).
Grind these herbs into fine powder, fill them into the mouth of the toad, sew it shut with thread, wrap it externally with mud, and calcine it over fire until the smoke is exhausted. Remove it, discard the mud, obtaining approximately 5 qian of residue. According to the severity of the condition, compound with 1 liang of Sophora Root (Ku Shen) and 1 liang of Wall Screwweed (Wa Song). Use Medicated Leaven (Shen Qu) paste to form pills, sized like wu-tzu seeds. Take 5 fen per dose, administered with boiling water, Mahuang Decoction (Mahuang Tang), or wine. If eyebrows fall out first, indicating Liver Channel involvement, add Halite (Shi Jue Ming); if eyes are damaged first, indicating Heart Channel involvement, add Gardenia Fruit (Zhi Zi); if purple blisters appear on the face, indicating Lung Channel involvement, add Lepidium Seed (Ting Li); if the body resembles tinea, indicating Spleen Channel involvement, add Atractylodes Rhizome (Bai Zhu); if the soles of the feet ulcerate and perforate first, indicating Kidney Channel involvement, add Psoralea Fruit (Po Gu Zhi).
Wu Si Yin (Five Dead Substances Drink): Spleen death, characterized by numbness and insensitivity, administer with Cangzhu Decoction; Blood death, characterized by ulceration and pus formation, administer with Shengdi Decoction; Flesh death, characterized by lack of pain upon cutting, administer with Kushen Decoction; Tendon death, characterized by flaccidity and drooping of hands and feet, administer with Xuxin Decoction; Kidney death, characterized by holes in the soles of the feet, administer with Yiyi Niuxi Decoction. (From *Mifang Jiyuan*)
External Wash (Apply once daily)
Mulberry Bark (Sang Pi), Rhubarb (Dahuang), and Mirabilite (Mangxiao), each one pinch.
Decoct in water and wash in a windless place. If parasites are present, add pigeon droppings and decoct together. If ulcerated, apply Amber Powder (Hupo Mo) to the affected area. This formula is miraculous and worth a thousand gold pieces. (From *Milu*)
Lingxiao San (Highly Effective for Severe Leprosy)
Cicada Slough (Chantui), Earthworm (Dilong - cleaned and dried), White Silkworm (Bai Jiangcan), and Whole Scorpion (Quanxie), each seven pieces; Calycanthus Flower (Lingxiao Hua), 5 qian.
Grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with wine. Bathe occasionally; during each bath, sit in the herbal soup for one shichen (two hours). Long-term administration yields miraculous results. (From *Chishui Xuanzhu*)
Vitiligo (Baidianfeng)
The poem states: "Vitiligo and purpura are both caused by wind; Fuzi and Sulphur are most effective. Mix with ginger juice and rub with eggplant stalks; apply only where itching occurs."
First, scrub the affected area clean with coarse cloth, then rub with eggplant stalks dipped in the medicine. For vitiligo, use white eggplant; for purpura, use purple eggplant. (From *Yifang Zuanyao*)
Ziyun Feng
Licorice Root (Gancao), 1 liang; Aconite Root (Chuanwu - stir-fried with ginger juice), 5 qian; Aconite Root (Caowu - stir-fried with black soybeans, beans discarded when cooked), 5 qian; Podocarpus Root (Fangji), 5 qian; Achyranthes Root (Niuxi - dry-fried), 7 qian.
Grind into powder. Take 7 fen per dose, with good wine. Externally, decoct Cnidium Fruit (Shechuangzi) and Prunella Spike (Xiakucao) for washing several times; the wheals will subside. (From *Jiyan Fang*)
Goose Palm Wind (Ezhangfeng)
Sophora Bark (Huai Pi), Barley (Damai), Sichuan Pepper (Huajiao), Cortex Lycii (Digupi), Mugwort Leaf (Aye), Pigeon Droppings (Geshi), Angelica Dahurica (Baizhi).
Decoct for fumigation followed by washing, several times daily until cured. It is best to wash with pig trotter broth; first wash hands with boiling water until the skin turns white and floating. Burn Lithospermum Branches (Shibai Zhi) into powder, mix with drip brine to form a paste-like consistency, and apply half a wine cup's worth to the affected area until healed. Smolder realgar (Xionghuang) and pangolin scales (Chuanshanjia) for fumigation; repeated applications yield self-healing, which is the method of Lü Zu. (From *Jiyan Fang*)
Alternative method: True Mugwort (Zhen Ai), 4 liang, boiled in four bowls of water until simmering. Place in a large-mouthed bottle, cover with two layers of hemp cloth, and fumigate the palm over the bottle opening.
Another method: Pigeon droppings (Geshi) and Dendrobium Stem (Shuishuilong), each 1 liang; Bitterleaf Root (Beichangshan), 1.5 liang. Grind into powder. Apply tung oil to the palm, then fumigate the affected area with the powder.
Crane Knee Wind (Hexikfeng) (Insufficiency of Qi of the Three Yin channels allows wind pathogens to invade, causing knee pain; over time, knees enlarge while legs thin, hence the name Crane Knee Wind, a critical condition.)
Fermented Rice Lees (Lazao), 4 liang; Soap (without pits), 1 jin; Mirabilite (Mangxiao), Sugar from Five Flavors (Wuwéi Shātáng), each 1 liang; Ginger Juice (Jiangzhi), half a bowl.
Grind uniformly and apply daily. Adding Huojiu (fire wine) is even better. Another method: Use aged Mugwort (Chen Ai) and Chrysanthemum (Juhua) as knee pads; long-term use eliminates the ailment. (Copied by Ding)
Shenxiao San (Treats Crane Knee Wind and also Osteomyelitis/Fu Gu Ju. Skin color remains unchanged, thigh is diffusely swollen, unbearable pain, and post-dysentery leg pain with weakness preventing walking.)
Ginseng Root (Renshen), 2 qian; Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), Atractylodes Rhizome (Baizhu), Prepared Aconite Root (Fuzi), Angelica Sinensis (Danggui), White Peony Root (Baishao), Eucommia Bark (Duzhong), Astragalus Root (Huangqi), Notopterygium Rhizome (Qianghuo), Achyranthes Root (Niuxi), Licorice Root (Gancao), Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shudi), each 1 qian; Ginger slices, 3 pieces. Decoct in two bowls of water until half remains. Take before meals. (From *Mifang Jiyuan*)
Sweat Spots (Hanban)
Lead Monoxide (Mituo Seng), 6 qian; Realgar (Xionghuang), 3 qian; Sulphur (Huangshi), 3 qian.
First rub the spots with ginger, then apply the powder. They turn black the next day and never recur. (Manuscript copy)
Another formula uses only Mituo Seng ground into powder, mixed with strong vinegar from the previous year for application, curing instantly. (Medical Book)
Acne (Jiu Ci)
Cnidium Fruit (Shechuangzi) and Red Bean (Hongdou) in equal parts, ground into powder. Wash in the morning and apply at night. (From *Zhou Shi Milu*)
