[Causes] There is fire in the stomach, and there is phlegm-fluid.
The *San Yin Fang* discusses "vinegar swallowing" (acid regurgitation). When there is fluid retention in the Zhongwan (CV12) area, there is a sensation of heartburn; when there is retained food, there is acid regurgitation. Acid belching and acid regurgitation after eating all belong to food stagnation syndrome (commonly known as acid regurgitation).
[Treatment Formulas] For cases of food stagnation with phlegm-fluid and acid regurgitation.
Tian Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizoma), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (each 5 qian), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix) (1 liang), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium).
Zao Yin Wan (Drying Fluid Pill): Treats heart pain caused by phlegm-fluid.
Gan Luo Ke (Shell of Dry Snail) (from walls), Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), made into pills.
Qu Zhu Wan (Curry and Atractylodes Pill): Treats acid regurgitation. Fluid retention in Zhongwan causes heartburn; retained food causes acid regurgitation.
Suo Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus), Chen Pi, Cang Zhu, Shen Qu (stir-fried), made into pills, taken with ginger decoction.
Another prescription: Treats acid regurgitation, all due to damp-heat stagnation.
Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (stir-fried with ginger juice), Cang Zhu, Fu Ling (Poria).
Soaked in water, made into pill cakes. If vomiting clear fluid, use the following formula:
Cang Zhu (stir-fried with soil from old walls), Fu Ling (1 qian), Hua Shi (Talcum) (roasted), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1.5 qian), Chen Pi (0.5 qian), decocted in water.
Discussion on Qi
Syndrome: Pathogenic factors from food and drink entering through the mouth constitute retained food. The disease presents with vexation and pain, aversion to wind and cold, abdominal distension and fullness, diarrhea with loss of appetite, acid regurgitation, and belching of putrid food qi. Or it may present with abdominal distension and diarrhea, and edema of the four limbs. If there is excess heat in the stomach causing food to remain stagnant, the pulse is slippery and rapid; purgation is indicated for recovery.
If there is Spleen deficiency, the pulse is floating and large, but feels choppy upon deep pressure, and the Chi position is also slightly choppy; warming and resolving methods are indicated.
Mu Xiang Wan (Costi Pill): Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus), Peng Zhu (Curcumae Phaeocaulis Rhizoma), Hu Jiao (Piperis Longi Fructus), Ban Xia, Gan Qi (Drynariae Rhizoma or Myrobalan? Context suggests a drying agent, likely Gan Qi as in some texts, but literally "Dry Lacquer" - note: In TCM formulas like this, Gan Qi often refers to Dried Lacquer or similar, but here likely implies a specific processed herb. Given "Chao ling yan jin", it might be a typo for another herb or specific preparation. However, strictly translating the text provided: Gan Qi (Dry Lacquer) (stir-fried until smoke ceases, each 5 qian), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Suo Sha Ren, Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) (each 3 qian), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (processed, skin and umbilicus removed), San Leng (Sparganii Rhizoma) (vinegar-processed), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (each 1 liang).
Grind the above into powder, mix with honey to make pills the size of wu zi (Cocculus Indicus seeds). Take 50 pills per dose, with ginger decoction.
Gan Ying Wan (Miraculous Response Pill): Rou Dou Kou (Myristicae Semen), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Bai Cao Shuang (Fuligo Silicea) (each 2 liang), Mu Xiang (1.5 liang), Bi Cheng Qie (Piperis Kadsurae Fructus), Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos), San Leng (each 1 liang), Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus) (100 grains, peeled), La (Beeswax) (4 liang), Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) (100 grains, peeled).
Except for Ba Dou, grind the rest into powder. Grind Ba Dou separately. Mix Ba Dou and Xing Ren evenly. First, melt the beeswax in oil, pour out the powder, mix into a paste, pound in a mortar over a thousand times, and make pills the size of mung beans. Take 3-5 pills per dose with warm water.
Additionally, vinegar swallowing (acid regurgitation), belching, and chest diaphragm discomfort have similar treatments.
