[Pathogenesis] Wind-heat invasion, or deficiency fire rising due to Qi deficiency. The Kidney opens into the ears.
[Pattern and Treatment] Ear pain caused by wind-toxin: Take one tael of Scorpion (Quanxie), two taels of Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang), cut them into four frame-like pieces, stir-fry together, remove the ginger residue, and take with decoction to treat ear disease.
Purulent discharge from the ear: Use Mantis Egg Case (Sangpiaoxiao) (one piece, fire-roasted) and Musk (Shexiang) (2.5 fen), grind into powder and sprinkle into the ear. Additionally, blowing Calcined Alum (Kufan) into the ear is effective.
Insects entering the ear: Pour in Sesame Oil (Mayou). Alternatively, pouring cat urine into the ear is also good.
[Pathogenesis and Pattern] The nose is the orifice of the Lung, connected to the Heart and Lung; pathology in the upper orifices leads to impaired breathing. There are cold patterns and heat patterns. Cold pathogen damages the skin and hair, causing Qi stagnation and obstruction; heat pathogen obstructs the clear pathways. Rosacea (Jiuzha Bi) is caused by blood-heat entering the Lung; nasal polyps (Bixirou) are caused by excessive Lung Qi; sinusitis (Bi Yuan) occurs when Gallbladder heat transfers to the brain, causing a pungent sensation and turbid nasal discharge.
[Treatment] For those injured by cold pathogen, it is appropriate to first disperse the cold pathogen, then tonify Defensive Qi, allowing the Qi of the Heart and Lung to communicate. Tongqi Tang (Ventilation Decoction) is suitable.
Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (each 3 qian), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (1 qian), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Zhi Gancao (Prepared Licorice Root) (each 3 qian), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (4 qian), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (1 qian), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex).

Another formula: Ruxiang (Frankincense), Liuhuang (Sulfur) (roasted inside a radish), Qingfen (Calomel), Wutou Jian (Tip of Aconitum Carmichaelii Radix). Mix with butter/oil and apply topically.
Another formula: Yazu (Duck Beak), Danfan (Alumen), apply topically.
Nasal Polyps: Grind Calcined Alum (Kufan) into fine powder as an ointment, wrap in cotton, and insert into the nostril; repeated applications will cause them to disappear naturally.
Another formula: Gouti End (Seed of Momordica Cochinchinensis), wrapped in cotton and inserted into the nostril. Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Pao Fuzi (Prepared Aconitum Lateralis Radix), mixed with honey, wrapped in cotton and inserted into the nostril; this is also effective.
Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Wind-Protecting Universal Powder) plus Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Shanyurou (Corni Fructus), Haizao (Sargassum), all soaked in wine, stir-fried until dry, ground into powder, take 1.5 qian each time.
Sinusitis (Bi Yuan): Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (2.5 qian), Fangfeng Tongsheng San (1 liang), taken with Hai'ercha (Child's Tea).
[Pathogenesis and Pattern] Teeth are the external manifestation of the Kidney and the surplus of bone.
The upper gums belong to Kun Earth, connected by the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian; the lower gums belong to Geng Metal, connected by the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian.
The Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian dislikes cold drinks and likes hot drinks; the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian likes cold drinks and dislikes hot drinks. When Kidney essence declines, teeth become loose and sparse; when Kidney essence is solid, teeth are firm. When the Large Intestine is obstructed, teeth feel loose; when the Large Intestine is deficient, tooth roots are exposed. Severe heat causes teeth to shake and gums to recede, resulting in unceasing pain; if cold or wind pathogens lodge in the head, it causes headache and stiffness and prominence of neck tendons; dental caries and loss occur, with reduced number, color changes, itching, and pain.
[Treatment] Qianghuo San (Notopterygium Powder): Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba) (remove roots and nodes), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) (1.5 qian), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (3.5 qian), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 qian), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (0.5 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (0.5 qian), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (3 qian), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Guhui (Bone Ash) (3 qian).

Decoct strongly for gargling; relief comes when pus and phlegm are discharged.
Formula for expelling gas/toxins from insects: Bibo (Piperis Longi Fructus) powder, Muguo Rou (Myristicae Semen flesh).
Grind together and insufflate into the nose.
Formula for treating wind-pathogen migrating pain: Gaoben (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma et Radix), Jiancao (Polygoni Avicularis Herba), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma).
Gargle with hot decoction to cure.
Formula for treating Bone-Cavity Wind (Osteomyelitis of jaw): Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina) (do not crush, remove seeds), Xingren (Pruni Armeniaci Semen Amarum) (burn to retain nature).
Take one tael of each ingredient, add one qian of Green Salt, and rub onto the affected area.
Formula for treating Wind Toothache: Take one northern date (Zaoren), remove the pit, insert one seed of Badou (Crotonis Tiglii Semen), form into a ball. Roast over mild to strong fire until charred, place on the ground for a while, grind into fine powder, dip a paper twist into it, and insert into the tooth cavity ten times.
