(Attached: Hu Huo Disease)
[Pulse] When parasites erode the genitals or anus, a deficient and small pulse indicates survival, while a rapid and tight pulse indicates death.
[Etiology and Symptoms] Damp-heat is generated; when the Zang-Fu organs are deficient, erosion occurs. Heat accumulates in the abdomen, and the intestines and stomach are weak, causing worms to move seeking food. Sores on the upper lip are called "Huo" (Confusion), indicating worms eroding the internal organs; sores on the lower yin/anus are called "Hu" (Fox), indicating worms eroding the anus. There may also be mouth sores, but this is not Hu Huo disease.
[Treatment] *Ji Xiao Fang* (Collection of Effective Prescriptions): Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Heshi (Nartheci Fructus, stir-fried), Binglang (Arecae Semen), Hezi (Chebulae Fructus, baked), Wuyi (Pyrethri Flos), Pao Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (each 7 qian), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang 5 qian). Wu Mei (Mume Fructus), or add Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex). Make into honey pills. Take with Chenpi Tang (Tangerine Peel Decoction) or Cu Tang (Vinegar Decoction) as desired.
*Hua Chong Wan* (Worm-Dissolving Pill): Treats parasites, causing them to dissolve into water. Liuhuang (Sulfur) (1 liang), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) (5 qian), Mituoseng (Lithargyrum) (3 qian), Pao Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix) (1 piece). First, powder the Fuzi, boil with 1 sheng of vinegar until it becomes a paste, mix with other medicines, and make pills the size of mung beans. Take 20 pills with Jingjie Tang (Schizonepetae Herba Decoction) or Cha Qing (Tea Infusion).
Secret Recipe: Treats vomiting of worms. Heixi (Black Tin, stir-fried to ash). Binglang powder (Arecae Semen), taken with tea.
Another Prescription: Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper), made into pills with wine paste, treats worms.
Another Prescription: Stir-fried chicken eggs, white beeswax dust, treat Taenia saginata (Tapeworm); making pills with wine paste is excellent.
*Xie Xin Tang* (Drain the Heart Decoction) treats "Huo"; Kushen Tang (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix Decoction) washes treats "Hu".
[Etiology] Heat binds internally. Although there are names such as E Bi (tonsillar obstruction), Mu She (wooden tongue), Chan Hou Feng (throat-wrapping wind), and Zou Ma Ya Gai (running-horse canker), the pathology is essentially Fire. Discussing the Pharynx (Yan) and Larynx (Hou), Epiglottis (Hui Yan), and Tongue (She), although they belong to the same gate, their functions differ: The Larynx is for breathing air, thus connecting to Heaven; the Pharynx is for swallowing food, thus connecting to Earth; the Epiglottis manages the opening and closing from above. Covering the Pharynx allows food to descend; not covering it causes air to enter the Larynx; the tip of the tongue must touch the upper palate for the Epiglottis to close the Pharynx. These four interact; if one is missing, eating and drinking cease, leading to death. When disease occurs, it is all due to Fire. The meridians of Hand-Shaoyin Jueyin Heart Master and Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Ministerial Fire both govern the pulses and connect to the Larynx. Qi heat causes internal binding; severe binding causes swelling; severe swelling causes severe Bi-obstruction; severe Bi-obstruction leads to blockage and death. As for dry painful throat, swollen pharynx/jaw, and stiff tongue root, these are caused by Jueyin Fire. Only acute Hou Bi (Sore Throat) is caused by Ministerial Fire.
[Symptoms] The Pharynx (Yan) is the place where food is swallowed. If the Pharynx swells, swallowing is impossible; or it is injured by vomiting/coughing blood, or due to excessive drinking/eating, phlegm-heat arrives, causing the Pharynx system to become dry and withered.
The Larynx (Hou) is the place where sound enters and exits. Internal organ heat causes swelling, resulting in sudden swelling and blockage. Or, due to Heart deficiency-cold, a Xuan Yong (hanging abscess) grows above, commonly known as Goose Mouth Ulcer. Coughing leads to hoarseness and laryngeal rupture, commonly known as Voice Scattering.
[Treatment Methods] Mild cases use salty substances to soften hardness; severe cases use pungent substances to disperse; phlegm binding uses bitter substances to induce vomiting; otherwise, use Bian stone to bleed. Human Fire (Excess Fire) is treated with cooling methods; Dragon Fire (Deficient Fire/False Fire) is driven out by fire methods, i.e., taking cooling decoctions hot. It is suitable to prick Shaoshang (LU11) to bleed.
Secret Recipe: Pu Xiao (Mirabilite), Ya Xiao (Glauber's Salt) (each ground separately), Green Fish Gallbladder. Place the gallbladder juice on the two salts, let dry, then grind into powder, and blow into the throat with a bamboo tube. Healing occurs when phlegm is expelled.
*Wu Chi San* (Five-Spoon Powder): Treats Wind-Heat Hou Bi and Chan Hou Feng. Pu Xiao (1 liang 5 qian), Pengsha (Borax) (5 qian), Nao Zi (Camphor) (3 qian), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus). Blow the powder into the throat with a bamboo tube.
*Shen Xiao San* (Divine Effect Powder): Treats heat-swelling causing loss of voice. Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica), Bimangu (Ricini Semen, raw, skin removed and ground separately, each 1 liang). Make into honey pills the size of Gengzi (Soapberry seeds), chew and swallow.
*Xionghuang Jiedu Wan* (Realgar Detoxification Pill): Treats Chan Hou Feng and Hou Bi, fainting, loss of voice, locked jaw, and unconsciousness. Xionghuang (Realgar) (1 qian, water-flown), Yujin (Curcumae Radix) (1 qian), Badou (Crotonis Fructus, skin and oil removed, 14 seeds). Make into pills with vinegar paste, size of mung beans. Take one pill with hot tea infusion; stop when vomiting occurs.
Mi Fuzi (Honey-Gilded Aconite): Treats Fu-organ cold causing closure of the throat gate and inability to swallow. Remove skin and navel of large Fuzi, cut into large slices, coat with honey, roast until yellow, hold in mouth and swallow saliva.
Another Prescription: Longdan (Gentianae Radix), Fan (Alumen), wrap inside Wu Mei (Mume Fructus) flesh, wrap in cotton and hold in mouth.
Longhuo Baidu San (Dragon Fire Antitoxic Powder): Treats acute Chan Hou. Pricking to bleed is the best strategy; if slow, apply Dan. Yangqishi (Stilbite Group Mineral) [dose unspecified], Fulonggan (Dragon's Liver) (each 3 qian). Wash with fresh water.
Another Prescription: Ba Ruixiang flower root, grind with water and irrigate.
Secret Recipe: Treats Phlegm. Its symptoms are all caused by phlegm. Use a goose feather dipped in tung oil to probe the throat and induce vomiting.
