A pulse that is level and deficient is the normal pattern after childbirth. The Classics state: "When the Yin pulse beats vigorously and is distinct from the Yang pulse, it indicates pregnancy." This signifies the harmonization of Qi and Blood, and the interaction of Yang and Yin. If the pulse of the Hand-Shaoyin (Heart Meridian) moves particularly strongly, it indicates pregnancy.
Shaoyin refers to the Heart pulse. The Heart governs the vessels and blood. Additionally, the Kidney is referred to as the "Gate of the Womb" (uterus), and the Chi position reflects the Kidney pulse. If the pulse at the Chi position does not cease upon pressure, it is a sign of pregnancy. If the pulses at the Cun, Guan, and Chi positions are equal in depth (floating or sinking) and do not cease upon pressure, it indicates pregnancy.
In early pregnancy, the Cun pulse is minute and small, with five breaths per pulse beat. At three months, the Chi pulse becomes rapid. A pulse that is slippery and rapid, which disperses when pressed heavily, indicates a fetus of three months. A pulse that does not disperse under heavy pressure but is rapid without being slippery, indicates five months.
For a pregnant woman at four months, the method to determine the sex of the fetus: a rapid pulse on the left indicates a male, a rapid pulse on the right indicates a female, and rapid pulses on both sides indicate twins.
Another method: Obtaining the Taiyin pulse indicates a male; obtaining the Taiyang pulse indicates a female. The Taiyin pulse is deep, while the Taiyang pulse is superficial.
Another method: A deep and solid pulse on the left hand indicates a male; a floating and large pulse on the right hand indicates a female. Deep and solid pulses on both hands indicate two males; floating and large pulses on both hands indicate two females.
Another method: A Chi pulse that is larger on the left indicates a male; larger on the right indicates a female; larger on both sides indicates twins. "Larger" refers to a full and robust pulse quality.
Another method: Have the pregnant woman face south and walk, then call her back. If she turns her head to the left, it is a male; if she turns her head to the right, it is a female.
Another method: Observe the woman when she goes to the toilet; if her husband calls her urgently from behind and she turns her head to the left, it is a male; if she turns her head to the right, it is a female.
Another method: If the husband of a pregnant woman has a nodule in his left breast, she carries a male; if he has a nodule in his right breast, she carries a female.
When a pregnant woman approaches labor (pulse deviates from the regular channel pattern), her pulse floats. If accompanied by abdominal pain radiating to the lower back and spine, delivery is imminent. The appearance of the "deviated pulse" alone, even without disease symptoms, indicates impending labor.
Another method: When a woman is about to give birth and her pulse deviates from the regular pattern, if she feels sensations at midnight, she will deliver by noon.
