[For treating hemorrhoids with rectal bleeding like a gush of water that does not heal]
The above method uses only river water purchased from the market. After each bowel movement, immediately wash the affected area with cold water. Long-term washing is better; those who have suffered for a long time will all recover. I first learned this from Lord Hou, the Envoy of Xinzhou. He said that washing twice would lead to recovery. I used it myself and also recovered after two washes. I applied it to several other people, and the results were the same. Its miraculous nature is astonishing and unlike other medicines; it cannot be replaced by [other] river water.
[For treating urinary retention]
Grind amber into powder. Take 2 qian (approx. 6-9g) per dose, mixed with a strong decoction of Hemerocallis root (Daylily root), taken on an empty stomach. A friend of mine once suffered from severe blockage in the small intestine leading to strangury (dysuria). Each urination yielded only one or two drops, accompanied by extreme pain. Aggressive purgative medicines failed to relieve the obstruction. Wang Xungong provided this medicine, and after one dose, urination resumed immediately. Another patient suffered from hemorrhoids and intestinal swelling, which prevented urination, presenting symptoms similar to strangury. Other medicines failed to promote urination, but this method was effective.
[Prescription for frequent urination (also treats thirst)]
Take a handful of pure glutinous rice (approx. 50g), roast it until soft and cooked just before going to bed. Eat it, followed by warm wine. If alcohol is not consumed, use warm water instead. Consuming more yields better results. Walk or sit for a while afterward, wait until the stomach feels empty, then sleep. For those urinating more than ten times a night, this will stop the frequency that very night. I once treated this as a parlor trick, betting items with others, and its efficacy seemed divine. Some claim it is merely the effect of false fire combined with warm water, but this is incorrect. Generally, glutinous rice has astringent properties that reduce fluid loss. Ordinary people who drink alcohol at night often do not urinate that night; this is due to the power of glutinous rice.
I also record another incident: My old friend Liu Zhengfu, after resigning from office, stayed at Jianxi in Minzhou. He often sought lodging from a prominent family. They initially closed their doors and refused entry, later sending someone to apologize saying, "Our father is critically ill and we cannot receive guests." Liu asked about his condition, and they replied that he was suffering from severe thirst and was near death. Liu offered to prepare medicine for him. Soon, his son and relatives arrived, begging for treatment. Liu immediately prepared the medicine for them, arranging for them to return the next day to express gratitude. They reported that after drinking one cup of the medicine, his water intake decreased by seven or eight tenths that night. This was witnessed personally by Liu. The prescription uses stalks of glutinous rice. Cut off the ears and roots, take the central part, and burn it to ash in a clean vessel. Use approximately one he (approx. 100ml volume) of ash, steeped in one bowl of water for a long time. Clarify the liquid and discard the dregs. It tastes like weak lye water. Drink it all at once while thirsty. This is another verification of the astringent property of glutinous rice in reducing fluid loss, so I append it here.
