In the past, I read *Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold), which recorded that Sanjian San (Three Jian Powder) could treat all diseases without exception, and Sun Simiao specifically wrote an essay on it. He believed that although the dosage and administration of this formula were unconventional, its efficacy in emergency situations was particularly remarkable, revealing that divine medicines are used with flexibility. It does not adhere to conventional rules; profound principles can dispel confusion, yet wisdom cannot fully comprehend them. Now that I have obtained Shengsanzi (Holy Dispersion Powder), it seems to belong to this category. Since ancient times, Shanghan (Cold Damage) has been discussed as an acute condition. Regarding exterior and interior, deficiency and excess, the number of days in the course of the disease, and the symptoms, if the decision to induce sweating or purge is mistaken by even a hair's breadth, it may lead to untreatable consequences. However, those who use Shengsanzi do not distinguish between Yin or Yang infection, nor whether the disease is transmitted between men and women. Even when the condition is critical and severe, after quickly taking several doses, sweat appears, Qi flows smoothly, diet gradually recovers, and spiritual vitality is fully restored, without needing other medicines. Continuous administration until recovery; for milder cases, only slight sweating on the heart and forehead is needed, and one remains safe and sound. The medicinal nature is slightly warm, yet for conditions like Yang Du (Yang Toxin) causing madness, one feels cool upon ingestion. This medicine probably cannot be judged by ordinary logic. If an epidemic is spreading, regardless of age or social status, boiling a pot in the early morning and having each person drink a cup prevents the epidemic Qi from entering the body. In daily life, taking one dose on an empty stomach makes food taste delightful and prevents myriad diseases. It is truly a treasure for saving the world and protecting families. The origin of this formula is unknown. My friend Mr. Chao Gu treasured it through generations, using it to treat this illness with a success rate of nearly 100%. After obtaining it, I was demoted to Huangzhou, where major epidemics occurred for consecutive years, saving countless lives. Mr. Chao kept this formula very secret, swearing an oath by the Songjiang River not to pass it on. I privately thought this was too narrow-minded, so I passed the formula to Pang Anshi of Qishui. Pang was famous for his medical skills and good at writing books, so I gave it to him, hoping that Mr. Chao's name would become immortal along with this formula.
Shengsanzi treats various diseases with multiple efficacies. Last spring, when people in Hangzhou fell ill, this medicine saved countless lives. It uses only mid-to-low grade herbs. Roughly calculated, for every thousand cash, one could obtain a thousand doses, benefiting at least a thousand people. Accumulating this, the profit margin is very thin. Generally, those who wish to give charity but rely solely on their own resources have limited capacity. If collective efforts are combined, everyone benefits, and the practice can last long. Now, we recruit devout believers to prepare the medicine at Lengan Temple. Distribution starts after the Beginning of Spring and continues until the transition between spring and summer next year. Those who register can send donations directly to the temple. In the past, Venerable Bhadrika donated Harile (Terminalia chebula) to a sick bhikkhu, thereby gaining a blessed body free from many illnesses. Donations, large or small, support each other in times of illness. How can merit be limited? Benevolent people should cherish compassion and cultivate good causes. (Lu Guang, a scholar from Wu Commandery, donated this formula and herbs, obtained from Chan Master Baoze, the Abbot Zhicang, who was a local monk. Lu Guang also donated formulas and herbs in the capital, residing in Mai Alley, from where this formula spread.)
