Zhengren Toumian Tu (Diagram of the Frontal Human Head and Face)
On the cranium, directly aligned with the center of the nose, entering the hairline by one cun. The depression is large enough to hold a bean. Moxibustion is performed three Zhu (units of moxa cone) daily up to 105 Zhu as the limit. Excessive moxibustion depletes Qi (vital energy), leading to blurred vision. It primarily treats Toufeng (Head Wind).
One cun posterior to Shangxing (GV23), in the depression. Fourteen Zhu (two times seven) are applied daily, with a pause after seven days. Initial application causes pain, but after 50 Zhu, pain ceases. It primarily treats nasal congestion, anosmia (loss of smell), Toufeng (Head Wind) pain, excessive dandruff, somnolence, Jingxian (Startling Epilepsy), Dai Mu (upward deviation of the eyes), inability to recognize people, Xuanyun (Vertigo/Dizziness), and facial edema.
One and a half cun posterior to Xinhui (GV22), in the bony depression. Five Zhu of moxibustion are applied. It primarily treats Toufeng (Head Wind), hot headache, head swelling, Fengxian (Wind Epilepsy), pediatric Jingxian (Startling Epilepsy), red and swollen face, excessive clear nasal discharge, neck pain, and vertigo.
One and a half cun posterior to Qding (GV21), at the center of the vertex. After 105 Zhu of moxibustion, stop. After an interval of three to five days, prick the surrounding area with a triangular needle to induce bleeding, and wash with Jinghua Shui (well water drawn at dawn). It primarily treats excessive laughter, inappropriate speech, sudden death upon attack, foaming at the mouth, mental heat and oppression, Toufeng (Head Wind), somnolence, mental restlessness and palpitations, lack of vitality, memory loss, loss of taste, heavy head, facial flushing after drinking alcohol, nasal congestion, lacrimation, tinnitus, and deafness.
On the head, one cun lateral to Shangxing (GV23). Five Zhu of moxibustion are applied. It primarily treats visual impairment, Xuanyun (Dizziness) caused by Toufeng (Head Wind), stiff spine with opisthotonos, convulsions, Dianji (Epilepsy), and headache.
One cun posterior to Wuchu (GB7); the Mingtang Jing states two cun. No moxibustion is applied here.
One and a half cun posterior to Chengguang (BL7). Three Zhu of moxibustion are applied. It primarily treats neck pain and heaviness, sudden falling and stiffness upon rising, dyspnea and difficult breathing, facial paralysis (deviation of mouth and eye), rhinorrhea, and epistaxis.
At the upper orbital margin, entering the hairline by five fen, in the depression. Five Zhu of moxibustion are applied. It primarily treats wind-stroke with inability to recognize people, wind-induced vertigo, nasal congestion, axillary swelling, gnawing of the cheek, chest bi (obstruction) and heart pain, inability to turn or lie on the side, malaria occurring in the late afternoon, hypochondriac pain, chest bi, cataracts, and excessive tearing.
One cun posterior to Linqi (GB15). Five Zhu of moxibustion are applied. It primarily treats heat syndromes of the Yang meridians. Jue Tou Tong (Jue-type Headache), alternating chills and fever, sweating without aversion to cold, dizziness and dim vision, stiffness of lips and corners of the mouth, caries pain in the upper teeth, redness of the outer canthus, and blurred distant vision.
