[Extensor Coriandri Rhizoma / Yanhusuo]
Taste: Acrid, Bitter. Nature: Warm. Non-toxic. It inherits the Qi of early summer and simultaneously acquires the Acrid flavor of Metal to generate its properties. Its action can ascend and descend; it is Yang within Yin.
[Maintenance] Primarily breaks blood stasis. Indicated for various postpartum conditions caused by blood disorders. Treats irregular menstruation in women, abdominal masses, metrorrhagia and leukorrhea (abnormal uterine bleeding), and postpartum syncope due to blood loss.
It has the effect of aborting the fetus.
Relieves pain and promotes urination. (Li Shizhen)
[Meridian Tropism] Enters the Liver Meridian, and concurrently enters the Lung, Spleen, Kidney, and Pericardium meridians. It is a substance that promotes Qi circulation and activates Blood to relieve pain. (Generally treats diseases of Qi and Blood stagnation/condensation.)

It yields miraculous effects when used.

[Fritillariae Bulbus / Beimu]
Taste: Acrid, Bitter. Nature: Neutral. Non-toxic. On earth, it inherits the Qi of Earth and Metal; in heaven, it generates under the command of Clearness and肃 (Descent). Its action can ascend and descend; it is slightly Yang within Yin. Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Noupu) and Glehniae Radix (Baiwei) act as its guides. It is incompatible with Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao) and Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Wutou).
[Maintenance] Primarily treats vexatious heat from Cold Damage, dribbling dysuria, pathogenic factors, hernia and masses, bi-sore of the throat, difficulty in lactation, and wind-spasm from traumatic wounds. (Shennong Bencao Jing) Cough with rebellious Qi.
Stops vexation, rebellion, and fullness.
[Meridian Tropism] Enters the Heart and Lung meridians. It is a substance that dissipates nodules, drains heat, moistens the Lung, and clears fire. (Qi-level medicine for the Lung; Bitter drains Heart Fire, Acrid disperses Lung Depression.)
[Preliminary Discussion] Wang Ji stated: Fritillariae Bulbus is a Lung Meridian herb, while Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia) is a Spleen and Stomach Meridian herb; they must not be substituted for one another. Su Gong stated: It can disperse Qi stagnation in the chest and heart.
Used for Phlegm syndromes.
It clears the vexatious heat of the Heart family, thereby resolving the heat of the Small Intestine. The Classic states: The binding of One Yin and One Yang leads to bi-sore of the throat. One Yin refers to the Ministerial Fire of Shaoyin. One Yang refers to the Ministerial Fire of Shaoyang. By resolving the heat of Shaoyin and Shaoyang and removing vexatious heat in the chest, the symptoms of bi-sore of the throat will heal spontaneously.
