Ben Shi Fang treats infantile gan accumulation (malnutrition syndrome) in children, presenting with sallow emaciation and vomiting of food.
Chuanwu (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 qian) Dingfen (Mineral powder, 3 qian) Aihui (Mugwort ash, 2 qian) Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mammi, 2 qian)
Grind the above into fine powder, add drops of water to form pills, sized like a longan seed, shaped into cakes. Take one cake per dose, grind in rice drink and swallow.
Liushen Tang (Six-God Decoction): Treats vomiting and diarrhea due to spleen-stomach deficiency, with loss of appetite.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix) Bidou (Lablab Seed) Renshen (Ginseng Radix) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Fuling (Poria) Zhigancao (Prepared Licorice Root) Huoxiang (Agastegiae Herba) (each equal parts)
Take 3-4 qian per dose, decoct with ginger and jujube, and take orally.
Heji Ju Fang's Guanyin San (Treats vomiting and diarrhea)
Renshen San: Treats coldness in the viscera and bowels of infants. If milk or food is eaten and immediately vomited up; or if startled by feeding, leading to signs of fright convulsions, causing external signs such as cyanotic and pale face and lips, heat in palms and soles, excessive clear saliva, incessant vomiting or regurgitation, or accompanying diarrhea with stools mixed of green, yellow, purple, and white colors containing undigested curds, or resembling mucus or egg white, or indigestion of milk/food, this formula is suitable for all these cases. Regular use opens the stomach and benefits milk/food intake.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Fuling (Poria) Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Gancao (Licorice Root) (each half liang)
Grind into fine powder and store in a sealed container. When an infant presents with the aforementioned symptoms, use a dosage of "yi zi" (approx. 0.5g) for half-year-olds, "ban qian" (approx. 1.5g) for 2-3 year olds, and "yi qian" (approx. 3g) for older children. Mix with decocted jujube or rice drink to administer. Chen Zisu Tang (Old Perilla Leaf Decoction) can also be used. If vomiting and diarrhea occur simultaneously, administer with Dingxiang Tang (Clove Decoction); administering with Chenpi Tang (Tangerine Peel Decoction) is particularly effective.
Jing Yan Fang treats unpredictable vomiting in infants.
Use two Wubeizi (Galae Chinensis), one raw and one cooked. Take a handful of Gancao (Licorice Root), wrap in wet paper, process (pao), then pound together into powder. Take half qian qi (approx. 2.7g) mixed with rice wash water per dose until cured.
Zhangzhong Jin: Treats infants who vomit water and milk immediately after eating or drinking, unable to retain food.
Baidoukou (Cardamomi Fructus, 14 pods) Gancao (Licorice Root, 1 liang, half roasted, half raw) Sharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus, 14 pods)
Grind into powder. Place small amounts in the palm for the child to chew dry, or sprinkle directly into the infant's mouth.
Niang Ru Fa (Method of Brewing Milk): Treats newborns with any signs of fetal heat. The mother should take medicine; do not seek rapid results. The treatment method involves brewing the milk through the mother's medication, allowing the baby to absorb it gradually to resolve the condition, which is nearly foolproof. If cold/cold-natured drugs are used hastily to attack the pathogen, it will inevitably damage the spleen and stomach, leading to vomiting and causing serious trouble.
Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 2.5 liang) Zhuling (Polyporus) Chifuling (Red Poria) Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix) (each 1.5 liang) Gansheng Dihuang (Dried Rehmannia Root, 2 liang) Shanyinch'en (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, using leaves) Gancao (Licorice Root) (each 1 liang)
Cut into pieces. Take 5 qian per dose, add one cup of water, decoct to 60%, and after meals, express old milk first, then feed fresh milk.
[Qian] Ye states: Vomiting foam and phlegm, or white/green watery fluid, indicates stomach deficiency-cold. Vomiting thick saliva and blood indicates lung heat. Incessant vomiting of water belongs to heart pain and stomach cold. Vomiting water accompanied by heart pain indicates worm pain. Vomiting foamy water from the mouth suggests subsequent worm pain. Pale face, lackluster eyes, cold breath from the mouth, anorexia, and vomiting of water should be treated primarily with Bupi Yihuang San (Spleen-Nourishing Yellow-Enhancing Powder). [Dan] Danxi states: Vomiting roundworms in winter is mostly due to stomach deficiency-cold causing worms to move and induce vomiting. Use Qian Shi Baizhu San (Dr. Qian's Atractylodes Powder) added with two Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos). Alternatively, Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) without Gancao, added with Wu Mei Rou (Mume Fruit Flesh) and Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper).
