According to *Shenghui Fang*, when infants sweat and are injured by wind-pathogenic heat-toxins, these pathogens contend with the blood and qi. The heat steams outward, causing the flesh to become red and accompanied by high fever.
To treat infants with redness on the body that spreads to the cheeks, beside the mouth, or under the eyes, appearing red like rouge, where the skin above cracks and peels as it gradually spreads, this is caused by stagnant hot blood in the Heart. The treatment method involves using the sharp edge of a small knife to lacerate the affected area to allow blood to flow out, followed by administering Danshen San (Salvia Miltiorrhiza Powder).
Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus, white pith removed and stir-fried with bran), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu, shaved; each 1 fen), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, roots and nodes removed; 0.5 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Take 1 qian of the powder, add one small cup of water, ten leaves of Zhuye (Bambulae Folium), and 0.5 qian of Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam), decoct until five parts remain. Strain the dregs, let cool to a warm temperature, and adjust the dose according to the child's age. Administer at any time.
To treat infants with redness on the body accompanied by irritability and fever: Maidong San (Ophiopogon Decoction).
Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber, heart removed), Lugen (Phragmitis Rhizoma, chopped), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix, chopped), Xijiao Xie (Rhinocerotis Cornuti Pulvis), Loulu (Euphorbiae Humifusae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried until slightly red; each 0.5 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, add one cup of water and ten leaves of Zhuye (Bambulae Folium). Strain the dregs, let cool to a warm temperature, and adjust the dose according to the child's age. Administer at any time.
To treat infants with redness or bruising/swelling on the body, resembling Huodan (Fire Erysipelas), accompanied by irritability and thirst, generalized erythema, and high fever: Qianshuang San (Lead Frost Powder).
Qianshuang (Plumbum Nitricum, ground), Lvdoufen (Phaseoli Radiati Semen Amylum; each 0.5 liang). Mix with natural juice from Yuntaicai (Brassica campestris var. oleifera) and apply topically.
Another prescription: Fulonggan (Dragon's House Earth, 1 liang, ground into powder), Luantoufa (Human Hair, 2 liang, ground in ash). Mix with water and apply to the red areas.
Another prescription: Peel Tao Ren (Persicae Semen), grind into a paste, and mix with Mianzhi (Wheat Germ Oil) for topical application. Decoct Huanghao Sui (Artemisia scoparia flower spikes) to make a concentrated decoction, add a little salt, and take warm. Grind Baifan (Alumen) into fine powder, mix with Shengyou (Raw Sesame Oil) for topical application. Crush Bajiao Gen (Musa basjoo Root Juice) and apply. Crush Shuizhong Tai (Aquatic Moss) and mix with water for topical application. Mix Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) powder with water for topical application. Stir-fry Mi Fen (Rice Flour) until charred black, grind into powder, and mix with saliva for topical application. Fresh Sheyan Cao (Patrinia Herb), crush and apply.
Treat Shechandan (Snake-wrapping Erysipelas); if it encircles the waist, it is fatal. Crush Letu (Lactuca Sativa) and apply, or grind Letu Zi (Lactuca Sativa Seed) and apply. *Dai Shi Jia Chuan* prescribes burning grass ropes from reed mats through the zodiac sign period into ash, mixing with raw oil for topical application. *Guangli Fang* prescribes crushing Machixian (Portulacae Herba) and applying as a poultice.
