Decoct the root bark to wash the sores; this should stop the discharge of pus and blood completely, and it also treats dysentery. In both northern and southern regions, it is used as firewood; it is also called "Li" (栎/枥), with the same pronunciation.
*Qianjin Fang*: Treats various sores swollen due to wind pathogen. Take thirty jin of root bark, chop it, add three hu (ancient volume unit) of water, boil strongly, add one handful of salt, soak the sore to promote the discharge of pus and blood, do this daily until healed.
Bitter, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Treats roundworms (Ascaris). Decoct and drink the juice. Also treats toothache; crush the bark and hold it in the mouth. Also, mix with rice to cook porridge for dogs to remove parasites. Grows in deep mountains in the south. The bark is reddish, about the thickness of a finger, suitable for binding objects, peeling off in flakes naturally.
Bitter, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Treats watery dysentery, regardless of cold or heat patterns. Take the bark, decoct strongly until black, take one sheng (ancient volume unit). Grows as large trees among forests in Jiangnan. Leaves resemble pear leaves; people in Jiangxi call it "Liangmu" (Cool Wood); Songyang County is named after this tree.
Neutral in nature, non-toxic. Treats old blood stasis forming masses, breaks blood stasis and stops bleeding. Decoct and take. It grows on Yanglu wood. Produced in South Mountain.
Non-toxic. Treats lithuria (urinary calculi with painful difficulty). Burn to ash, take three finger-pinches, swallow with water. Also treats night sweats. Books state: it stops salty taste (Note: Textual ambiguity, literal translation applied).

Grows in Jiangdong and forest areas.
Sweet, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Treats "Wu Yeji" disease (a chronic wasting condition or parasitic disease), gu poison (gu toxin), feishi (a sudden acute illness), and throat obstruction (hou bi). Take the kernel from the seeds, crush into powder, slightly roast, and take one or two bi (spoonfuls) with water. Can also be mixed with soybeans, algae, and flour to eliminate parasites. Grows in Lingnan forests. It is a vine clinging to trees, similar to Tetsudama vine, maturing once every three years, pods like bow-shaped bags. Seeds resemble eggs. Skin is purple; use the inner kernel after splitting.
Also known as "Zi", also known as "Hezi". Most effective for treating Yeji disease.
