Raw Silver (Sheng Yin)
Nature: Cold. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Indications: Mainly treats mania due to heat, palpitations with fright, epilepsy with mental confusion, restless sleep at night, delirious speech, and diseases caused by evil qi or malevolent spirits. It is sourced from silver mines in Raozhou, Leping, etc. Raw silver resembles hard tin, with coarse and interlacing textures; naturally occurring forms are genuine. (Added now)
Minister Yuxi and others respectfully cite Chen Cangqi: Raw Silver has a pungent taste. Rihua Zi states: It is cold in nature and slightly toxic. It is incompatible with Shitingzhi (Stibnite) and Cishi (Magnetite). It treats sudden illness due to evil qi in children, heat toxins causing restlessness and oppression. All should be ground with water and ingested; raw blood products are contraindicated. It also mentions Zhu Sha Yin (Cinnabar Silver): It is cold in nature and non-toxic. Lei Gong says: The qi of Gold, Silver, Copper, and Iron, when used in medicinal preparations, should simply be placed whole within the herbs to borrow their qi to enhance the medicinal power. Do not mistakenly attempt to dissolve them within the medicine, as this will consume human body fat. *Qianjin Yi Fang*: To treat red spots on the body, frequently rub with silver until it becomes warm; the spots will gradually disappear over time. *Baopuzi*: Silver, although inferior to gold and jade, can be used to achieve the status of a Earth Immortal (Dixian). Method of ingestion: Dissolve it using wheat juice, or administer it via wine infused with Zhuc grass, or administer it after refining with Long Gao (Dragon Saliva/Grease). However, taking three doses daily, each dose the size of a bullet, is something that poor Daoists cannot obtain. *Taiqing Fuliang Lingsha Fa*: Silver inherits the spirit of Western Pungency and Yin, condensing essence to form its substance. Its nature is perverse/hostile; ingestion damages the Liver. *Baozang Lun* states: There are seventeen types of silver: True Mercury Silver, White Tin Silver, Zengqing Silver, Tulu Silver, Danyang Silver, Raw Iron Silver, Raw Copper Silver, Sulfur Silver, Arsenic Frost Silver, Realgar Silver, Orpiment Silver, Shi Silver. Only five types are genuine: Zhiyao Silver, Shanze Silver, Caosha Silver, Musha Silver, and Heiqian Silver. The rest are fake. Between stone cracks in silver pits, raw silver emerges like threads; locals call it Laoweng Xu (Old Man's Beard), which is truly generated silver. *Danfang Jingyuan*: Silver is produced in Lu Shi County, Luoping. When broken brown stones are opened, white metal is revealed inside. It grows in lead pits, shaped like bamboo shoots. This involves alchemical transformation. It is also called Natural Tooth, Raw Lead, or Natural Lead. It can be used for alchemical techniques but is unfit for consumption. Silver within lead is toxic; it can be used to form cinnabar-like pellets.
