[White Crane Meat]
Taste: Salty. Nature: Neutral. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Its blood mainly tonifies Qi and strength, treats deficiency fatigue, expels wind, and benefits the Lung. The gravel in the crane's gizzard (stomach), when ground and taken orally, treats gu poison and evil pathogens. Current cranes come in black, yellow, white, and grey varieties. Those that are white are considered superior; others are inferior. *The Travels of Emperor Mu* records: "When the Emperor arrived at Jusu Ershi, [someone] offered white crane blood to drink by the Emperor." The annotation states: "Crane blood enhances human Qi and strength." (Newly supplemented)
Crow
Nature: Neutral. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Treats emaciation, cough, and bone-steaming consumption. In the twelfth lunar month, wrap in clay within a tile jar, roast until ash, and take with water. Treats pediatric epilepsy and spirit-induced ailments. Clean the crow's eyes and drip into the eyes to generally treat ocular diseases. (Newly supplemented)
Detailed illustrations from *Tu Jing Ben Cao* are found under the entry for Male Magpie.
*Shenghui Fang*: Treats earth wasp stings. Roast the crow's head to ash, grind finely, and apply externally.
[Cuckoo Starling Meat]
Taste: Sweet. Nature: Warm, Neutral. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Tonifies Qi, treats wind disorders. Harvest during winter and spring, cut finely, stir-fry until fragrant, place in a bag, and soak in wine. Each morning, take the wine warm and ingest. It resembles the cuckoo starling but is smaller, dark brown in color; those that feed on locust tree seeds are best. (Newly supplemented)
Taste: Sweet. Nature: Neutral. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Primarily treats five types of hemorrhoids, stops bleeding. Roast and eat, or grind into powder and take with water.
*Tang Ben Zhu* notes: "Birds resembling the cuckoo starling with a crest on their heads are this species." Current examination of Chen Cangqi's *Ben Cao* states: "Cuckoo starling treats hiccups; after moxibustion treatment, eating it cures pediatric cases within one dose. Those obtained in the twelfth lunar month primarily treat chronic cough." (*Tang Ben Zhu* attached previously). Ministers Yuxi et al. respectfully note: Rihua Zi states: "Treats cough and hiccups, directs Qi downward; roast and eat. It is said to confer spiritual connection. Mix eye juice with milk to drop into eyes, greatly clarifying vision."
Chen Cangqi states: "Grind eye juice with milk, drip into the pupil, enabling sight of objects beyond clouds. Collect chicks on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, remove the tip of the tongue, enabling them to mimic human speech."
It can also be trained to fetch fire. *Shiliao Bencao* considers its nature cold. Primarily treats five types of hemorrhoids, stops bleeding. Another dietary method: Harvest on the last day of the year (Lar Day), roast with five flavors, treating chronic cough. Or make into soup; or grind into powder, mix with white honey to form pills. To treat the aforementioned conditions, those harvested on Lar Day in the twelfth lunar month are best and effective. Those not harvested on Lar Day are unsuitable for use.
