Taste: Sweet and bitter; Nature: Neutral; Toxicity: Non-toxic.
Indications: Treats the "Three Worms" (Ascaris, Enterobius, Fasciola), promotes the downward movement of Qi, and aids digestion.
The *Tang Bencao* commentary states: The leaves resemble those of Hibiscus mutabilis (Mu Jin) and Ulmus pumila (Yu), growing as small trees. Its fruits resemble those of Deutzia scabra (Soushu), appearing in pairs, arranged in fours opposite each other, with a red color and sweet taste.
Boiled to feed children to kill Ascaris lumbricoides (Hui Chong). Not used in prescriptions. Lu Ji's *Caomu Shu* names it "Ji Mi," also known as "Yi Xian." It is likely a type of Dalbergia (Tan) or Elm (Yu). Found in valleys everywhere. Currently, according to Chen Cangqi's *Bencao*: [Jia] treats maggots in sores of livestock; boiled juice made into porridge and灌 (irrigated/forced-fed) causes maggots to exit immediately. The bark can be made into ropes. Grows in mountain forests of the North. (Originally appended to *Tang Bencao*)
Bauhinia purpurea (Zijing Mu)

Indications: Breaks up old blood stasis, treats the Five Types of Lin Syndrome (Wu Lin), taken after strong decoction. Now often planted in courtyards; its flowers are bright and lovely. (Newly appended)
Minister Yuxi et al. carefully note Chen Cangqi's statement: Zizyphus jujuba var. spinosa? No, context implies Callicarpa bodinieri (Zizhu - Purple Berry), Cold nature. Treats various poisonings, carbuncles, sore throat, Feishi Gu Du (flying corpse and gu poison), swelling and prolapse, snake and viper bites; all treated by drinking boiled juice. Also used to wash sores and swellings with boiled juice to remove blood stasis and promote skin regeneration. Also named Zijing. The tree resembles Vitex negundo var. heterophylla (Huang Jing), with small leaves without branches, not the Jing of the Tian family. In autumn, when ripe, the fruit is pure purple, round like small pearls.
Grows in Jiangdong, found in forests and marshes. Ri Huazi states: Bauhinia purpurea (Zijing Mu) unblocks the Small Intestine. Bark and stems used together. Flowers have similar efficacy.
*Tujing* states: Zijing was not previously noted for specific provinces; now found everywhere, often planted in courtyards. Wood resembles Huang Jing, leaves small without branches, flowers deep purple and lovely. Some say it is the Jing of the Tian family. In autumn, ripe fruits look like small pearls, named Zizhu. Especially abundant in Jiangdong forests and marshes.
*Yanyi* states: Bauhinia purpurea (Zijing Mu) blooms purple flowers in spring, very fine and fragmented, growing in clusters without fixed locations. Some grow on the trunk, some attach below the roots, blooming directly; after flowering, leaves emerge, shiny and tight, slightly round. Planted frequently in gardens.
