*Metaplexis japonica* (Luomuozi): Sweet and acrid in flavor, warm in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats deficiency exhaustion (Xu Lao). The leaves, when consumed, have the same efficacy as the fruit. Lu Ji stated: It is also called Wan Lan, and in Youzhou it is known as Que Piao.
The *Tang Bencao* commentary notes: According to research, Que Piao is an alias for Nv Qing. The leaf coverage is similar; because the leaves resemble those of Nv Qing, it is also named Que Piao. Currently, examining Chen Cangqi’s *Bencao*, it states: The white juice from the stems of *Metaplexis japonica* treats spider and silkworm bites. Break the stem to extract the juice and apply it to the wound; this juice can dissolve silk and, when boiled and eaten, provides nourishment. Referencing Tao Hongjing’s note on Gouqi: Apply to swellings. People in the East call it Bai Huan; it is a vine growing among fences, exuding white juice when broken, and is also named Que Piao. This note further states: Que Piao is Nv Qing, yet Nv Qing is ultimately not Bai Huan. These two substances are similar and difficult to distinguish. (Originally attached in earlier pharmacopoeias) Ministers Yu Xi et al. respectfully consult *Erya*: [Character], which is Wan Lan. The explanation says: [Character], also known as Wan Lan. Guo Pu said: Wan grows as a vine, exudes white juice when broken, and is edible. Based on this note, it seems that [Character] Wan is one name for Lan, possibly due to transcription error, where "Wan" is a superfluous character.
*Waitai Miyao*: Treats vitiligo. Apply the white juice of *Metaplexis japonica* herb to the affected area, rub until the skin breaks, then reapply. After three applications, it heals. Mei Shi Fang: Treats Dan Huo Du (fire toxin), characterized by widespread redness and swelling of the body that is unbearable. Crush the *Metaplexis japonica* herb, squeeze out the juice, and apply it, or crush and apply directly to the lesion; it subsides immediately.
*Qingdai*: Salty in flavor, cold in nature, non-toxic. It primarily resolves various drug poisonings, pediatric heat syndromes, convulsive epilepsy with fever, epidemic headache with chills and fever. All are administered by grinding with water. It can also be ground and applied to hot sores, malignant swellings, traumatic injuries with bleeding, and snake or dog bites. Imported from Persia, as well as produced in Taiyuan, Luling, Nankang, etc., the purple-blue foam from indigo dye vats can also be used, with efficacy identical to Qingdai. (Currently attached here)
Ministers Yu Xi et al. respectfully consult *Yaoxing Lun*: Qingdai, as the sovereign herb, has a sweet flavor and neutral nature. It can resolve pediatric malnutrition fever and emaciation, and kill parasites. Chen Cangqi stated: Qingdai combined with egg white and Dahuang can be applied to carbuncles, sores, and snake bites.
*Tujing Bencao* records details under the entry for Lanshi.
Mei Shi Fang: Method for treating Shanghan (cold damage) with pea-like rash not yet suppurated: Take an amount of Persian Qingdai equivalent to a large date, grind with cold water, and ingest. Gong Qi Fang song for Gan Li Lei Shou Mao Jiao (malnutrition diarrhea, emaciation, dry hair): Children's miscellaneous diseases turn into Gan accumulation, regardless of strength or weakness, male or female. It resembles changes along the spine, like wasting disease causing distress. Another verse: Irritating heat, dry hair, nose and mouth dry, skin shriveled, limbs limp. Frequent diarrhea in the abdomen, yellow, green, red, and white discharges alike. Eyes gritty, face yellow, nostrils red, anus open and unwilling to look. Suddenly diarrhea turns into Gan sediment, thick nasal discharge accumulates. Dry lips, vomiting, inability to nurse, severe fever alternating with chills, restlessness. Illness in the abdomen requires medicine, why pray to divine plates? This prescription is Qingdai San, taken by children for hundreds of illnesses. Chu Yushi treated injuries from various insect poisons. Equal parts Qingdai and Xionghuang, ground together into powder, mixed with fresh well water, and taken orally (two qian bi). *Taiping Guangji* records that Qingdai kills harmful insects, turning them into water.
*Yanyi* states: Qingdai is made from Indigofera plants. A woman suffered from wet sores covering the lower abdomen down to the genitalia, resembling horse melon sores. No other areas were affected; it was hot, itchy, and painful, with difficult urination and defecation, yellow discharge, reduced appetite, and slight swelling of the body and face. The physician treated it as a malignant sore using Morus alba fish (Malianyu), pine resin, and Huangdan. Upon application, the sore became hotter and more painful. The treatment was incorrect, hence the result. Inquiry revealed she loved alcohol, bland foods, and wind-inducing foods like fish and crab. Urgently wash with warm water and remove the ointment. Then, take 4 liang of Machixian (Portulaca oleracea), crush finely, add 1 liang of Qingdai, grind uniformly, and apply to the sore. Heat decreased instantly, pain and itching ceased. Continue taking Bazheng San, three times daily, to dissipate pathogenic heat. Each time applying medicine, wait about one hour until dry, then reapply fresh wet medicine. After two days, reduce by one-third; after five days, reduce by two-thirds. Heal completely within twenty days. Upon recovery, asked: Why did this sore occur? Answered: Wind-heat toxins accumulated in the middle and lower jiao. If not expelled, they would become intestinal abscesses or internal hemorrhoids. Must strictly avoid alcohol and wind-inducing foods. However, unable to abstain from alcohol, she subsequently developed internal hemorrhoids.
