Indicated for snake and viper venom. This is the feces of a two-headed elk. It originates from Yongchang Commandery. The feces are collected to apply to sores. *Bowuzhi* (Records of Various Things) states: "Cai" is a mythical beast resembling a deer with two heads. Its fetal feces can be collected in all four seasons. It is unknown whether this creature exists today; Caijuji refers to this mythical beast. Fan Ye's *Book of Later Han* states: "There is a divine deer in Yunyang County with two heads that can eat poisonous herbs." *Huayang Guozhi* (Chronicles of Huayang) says: "This deer comes from Xionshe Mountain in Yunyang Commandery, which is this mythical beast."

Taste: Sweet. Nature: Neutral. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Indicated for pheasant sores. If fat and delicious, it can be boiled and eaten, which is beneficial to people. It grows in the mountains and marshes of Xifan. It burrows into the earth to make nests, resembles an otter in shape, and local people dig it up to eat. *Weilüe* (Records of Wei) states: "Daqin (Rome) produces a rat that repels poison. It is similar to this."

Taste: Salty, sweet. Nature: Neutral. Toxicity: Non-toxic. Indicated for injury to the middle jiao, pulse exhaustion with flaccid penis, strengthens will and boosts qi, promotes muscle growth and robustness, aids conception, and treats infantile convulsions and epilepsy. Dried in the shade for one hundred days.
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to *Yaoxing Lun* (Discussion on Drug Properties): White horse penis, used as an assistant drug, tastes salty. It can treat male impotence and ensure firmness and length, being particularly important in sexual arts. Meng Shen states: White penis benefits men's yin energy. Powdered dried ones are mixed with Cistanche honey pills. Taken with wine on an empty stomach, forty pills at a time, twice daily, effective after one hundred days.
Eye: Indicated for convulsions and epilepsy, abdominal fullness, and malaria. Should be used from a slaughtered horse.
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to *Jingxian Tongyong Yao* (General Medicine for Convulsions and Epilepsy): Horse eye, neutral nature.
Suspensory hoof: Indicated for fright evil spasms, difficult lactation, repelling bad qi, ghost toxins, gu poisoning, misfortune, stopping epistaxis, internal bleeding, and dental caries.
Grows in Yunzhong flat marshes.
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to *Yao Dui* and *Chitong Tongyong Yao* (General Medicine for Toothache): Horse suspensory hoof, neutral nature. Meng Shen states: Suspensory hoof treats convulsions and epilepsy.
White horse hoof: Treats women's leukorrhea (white discharge).
Red horse hoof: Treats women's metrorrhagia (red discharge).
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to *Bengzhong Tongyong Yao* (General Medicine for Metrorrhagia): Hoof keratin, neutral nature. *Yaojue* states: Horse hoof, taste sweet, nature hot, non-toxic. Meng Shen states: Red horse hoof repels warm malaria.
Tooth: Indicated for infantile convulsions and epilepsy.
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to Ri Huazi: Horse teeth, ground with water to treat convulsions and epilepsy.
Head grease: Promotes hair growth.
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to *Fatuluo Tongyong Yao* (General Medicine for Hair Loss): Horse grease, neutral nature.
Hair: Treats women's metrorrhagia with red and white discharge.
Heart: Indicated for forgetfulness.
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to Meng Shen: Patients with dysentery must not eat it.
Lung: Indicated for chills and fever, and infantile penile flaccidity.
Minister Yuxi et al. now examine: Penile flaccidity is not a disease of infants; these two characters must be erroneous.
Meat: Taste pungent, bitter. Nature: Cold. Indicated for heat and descending qi. Strengthens tendons, fortifies waist and spine, enhances vigor, strengthens will, lightens the body, and suppresses hunger.
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to Meng Shen: Meat has slight toxicity. Do not eat with stored rice, or sudden illness will occur, nine out of ten times fatal. Do not eat with ginger, or it generates phlegm-cough. The meat should be soaked and washed thoroughly. Method: Boil until soft and cooked through, ensuring all blood is removed, then it can be boiled or roasted. Fat meat is the same; otherwise, the toxin will not be eliminated. Chen Shiliang states: Horse meat has great toxicity. Ri Huazi states: This meat can only be boiled; other cooking methods are hard to digest. Do not eat too much; drink wine after eating. Must wash well with clear water three to five times before boiling and eating. Pregnant women and patients with dysentery must not eat it. Avoid Xanthium sibiricum (Canger) and fresh ginger. Also, mane burned to ash stops bleeding.
Jerky: Treats chills, fever, flaccidity, and bi-syndrome.
Feces: Named Matong (Horse Manure), slightly warm. Indicated for women's metrorrhagia, thirst, vomiting blood, lower bleeding, epistaxis, and stopping bleeding from metallic wounds.
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to Meng Shen: For patients with carbuncles or stroke pain. Stir-fry donkey and horse manure, apply to the sore fifty times, extremely effective. Men suffering from this should avoid intercourse; after recovering, if they engage in sexual activity, they may nearly die. Take five sheng of white horse manure, squeeze out the juice, store in a good vessel overnight. Take one san (approx. 60ml) per dose, twice daily day and night.
Skull bone: Indicated for excessive sleepiness, makes people unable to sleep.
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to *Haomian Tongyong Yao* (General Medicine for Good Sleep): Horse skull bone, slightly cold. Ri Huazi states: Skull bone treats hypersomnia; use as a pillow. Burn to ash and apply.
Urine: Taste pungent, slightly cold. Indicated for xiaoke (wasting-thirst), breaking stasis and hard accumulations, male fuliang accumulation and hernia, female mass diseases. Drink using a copper vessel.
Tao Hongjing states: Soil under the hooves of eastward-walking white horses is used in magic arts to know women's external affairs. There are many colors of horses; pure white is best. Those with white mouth, eyes, and hooves are rare, appearing occasionally among common people. Minor uses do not require this. Horse liver and meat under the saddle are said to kill people; eating fine horse meat without drinking wine also kills. White horses with green hooves must not be eaten. *Li Ji* (Book of Rites) states: Horses with black spines and spotted arms must not be eaten. Horse bones injure people and are toxic. If the human body has sores, horse sweat, horse breath, and horse hair can all cause harm. *Tang Ben Zhu* notes: *Bielu* states: Horse hair treats infantile convulsions and epilepsy. White horse eye, treated by mothers wearing it, indicates infantile [condition]. Fecal pellets, indicated for metallic wounds, infantile fright, chills and fever, inability to eat. Tether rope, treats infantile epilepsy, wash with it.
Now examining Chen Cangqi's *Bencao*: Horse meat and blood have slight toxicity. When eating, drink fine wine to resolve it. Pregnant women must not eat horse; donkeys and mules carry twelve-month pregnancies. Mules do not give birth. Soak horse skull bone in flowing water to remove water leeches; bury in noon sun land to facilitate silkworm rearing. Generally, collecting white horse penis, when the mare is estrous and strength is strong, obtaining it alive is best. Horse teeth burned to ash, mixed with saliva, applied with crimson silk to the root of carbuncles to draw them out. Squeezed juice from feces treats shaohan and seasonal fevers; taking it induces vomiting and purging. Also treats postpartum blood qi disorders and epidemic diseases where sexual activity nearly causes death; take warm. When using horse feces and urine, white ones are best. Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully note according to *Shu Ben Zhu*: All muscles and meats harvested not in the twelfth month should be fire-dried. Meng Shen states: Detested for thorn sores. Take dark horse urine, soak hotly to heal, wash repeatedly. Ri Huazi states: Urine washes head sores and white tinea capitis.

Leigong states: Select healthy horses with tender silver-white bodies; spring collection is best. Before use, split with a copper knife into seven pieces, mix with raw sheep blood, steam for half a day, dry in sun, wipe off surface skin and dry sheep blood with coarse cloth, then finely chop for use. Also, self-dead horse meat must not be eaten. Do not eat in May, damages spirit. *Shiliao* states: White horse with black head, eating causes madness. Self-dead white horse, eating harms people. Meat, cold, slight toxicity. Indicated for intestinal heat, removing lower qi, strengthening bones and tendons. Red horse hoof repels warmth. Also, eating various horse meats causes chest stuffiness; drink clear wine to resolve, turbid wine worsens. Also, for puncture wounds, take dark speckled horse urine, soak hotly, worms will come out. For stick wounds and bruising, stroke pain, stir-fry wet horse and donkey manure, take half each, replace while hot. Change when cold, over fifty times, extremely effective. Also, infants with head sores, burn horse bone to ash, mix with vinegar to apply. Also treats body sores. White tinea capitis, use urine from speckled horses lacking hair, warm and apply ten times repeatedly, heals. Also, five liang of white horse grease, seal on sore. Gradually seal, hair grows back for white tinea. Also, horse sweat entering human sores, toxic vapors attack making pus, chest oppression nearing death, burn foxtail millet straw to ash, steep thickly to make thick ash juice, boil hot, dip sore in ash juice, white foam emerges completely then heals. White foam is toxic vapor. This formula: Someone in Lingnan recently gained efficacy. Generally, raw horse blood entering human flesh, next is donkey [blood]. Hooves without night-eyes must not be eaten. Also, black spine and spots must not be eaten. Patients with sores and scabies must absolutely not eat, worsening difficulty to heal. Red horse skin laid down before labor, let mother sit on it, induces labor. *Shenghui Fang*: Treats red baldness of head. Use white horse hoof burned to ash, mixed with pig grease in the twelfth lunar month to apply. *Waitai Miyao*: Stripped horse pierced by bone causing toxic poisoning near death, take stripped horse belly feces and horse urine to wash, apply feces, highly effective, squeezed fecal juice to drink is also effective. Another formula: Treats toxic heat attacking hands and feet swelling, pain wanting to detach. Water-boiled horse fecal juice to soak. Another formula: Treats incessant infantile night crying. Horse bone powder applied to milk for drinking, stops. *Qianjin Fang*: Infantile sudden fright. Take three sheng horse feces, burn until smoke ceases, boil in three dou wine for three boils, remove dregs, bathe infant. Another formula: Treats meat craving syndrome, thinking of meat endlessly, craving again after eating. Three sheng white horse urine, drink on empty stomach, should vomit meat, if meat does not come out, then death. Another formula: Treats dental caries. Cut white... Or dysentery, can urgently treat the lower part, those who do not understand this only attack the upper part, not considering the lower part. Lower part generates worms, worms eat anus, rot, seeing five zang organs leads to death. Burn horse hoof to ash powder, mix with pig bile, apply on cotton to guide to lower part, several times daily, heals. Another formula: Repel warm epidemic. Two liang hoof debris, sew into bag to wear, left for men, right for women. Another formula: Back sores highly effective. Take white horse tooth burned to ash, first prick sore head open, then seal with ash, surround swollen area with wet dough, later wash off ash with strong vinegar, root comes out. Another formula: Treats toothache. Horse night-eye the size of rice grain inserted into hole, or wrapped in cotton inserted into worm hole, heals immediately, permanently cuts off root. Another formula: Treats people嗜sleeping. Horse skull bone burned to ash powder, take with water one cun spoonful, three times day, one time night. *Meishi Fang*: Treats incessant hematemesis. Burn white horse feces, grind, squeeze juice with water, take one sheng. Another formula: Horse bites people or pierces sores, and horse sweat enters sores causing toxic pain. Take horse muscle insensitivity. Wild horse meat one jin, finely cut, boil in soy sauce juice, add five flavors, mix with green onion white, make preserved food. Make soup porridge and plain boiled eating is excellent. *Jianyao Jizhong* treats infants poisoned by horse, fright. Take horse tail, burn in front of child, let child inhale smoke, burn daily until healed. *Jiyan Fang*: Treats epidemic [sores]. Burn hoof ash, mix with pig grease to apply, five to six times daily. *Bingbu Shouji*: Chronic malignant sores not healing, or painful/itchy generating cracks. Thoroughly grind horse feces and teeth to apply. Not more than three or two times, good. Chancellor Wu in Shu, had leg sore, unbearable itch, got this formula: Then healed. Another formula: Treats chickenpox. Boil horse meat thoroughly, juice to wash, dried jerky also works. Liu Juanzi treats beaten, blood stasis in abdomen. White horse hoof burned until smoke ends, take ash powder, take with wine one cun spoonful, three times day, one time night. Also treats women's blood diseases, plug upper orifice. Same as *Guangli Fang*. Another formula: Horse suffers scabies, must not eat, generates inch-long white worms. *Zimu Milu*: Postpartum chills and fever, extreme chest stuffiness and bloating and hundred diseases. Squeeze Matong juice one zhan, mix with wine and take, heals.
Birth spot arm leak must not be eaten. Former Han Yuan Gu and Huang Ren argued in front of the emperor, emperor said: Eating meat but not eating horse liver, is not considered not knowing flavor. Note: Horse liver is toxic, eating kills people. Duke Mu of Qin lost a fine horse, people from Shu below Qi together obtained and ate it, officials wanted to punish by law. Duke said: A gentleman does not use livestock to harm people, I heard eating fine horse meat without drinking wine harms people, all granted wine. *Han Zhi* Wencheng died eating horse liver. Also Wei Zhuo, preface to *Youxuan Ji* states: Eating horse leaving liver. *Danfang Jingyuan* horse grease softens five metals, feces nourishes all drug powers.
