Among the symptoms of carbuncles and sores, none is more fierce and malignant than "Fa Bei" (Back Carbuncle). However, if one distinguishes between Yin and Yang syndromes, treatment is not difficult; if one fails to distinguish Yin and Yang, even ordinary sores will fail to respond to treatment, let alone those that are easier to treat.
Therefore, regarding carbuncles and sores, one should only inquire whether it is a Yin syndrome or a Yang syndrome, rather than calculating its severity. Generally, when various carbuncles, ulcers, and sores first appear, accompanied by pain, chills, and fever, they are mostly Yang syndromes. At the onset of a Yang syndrome, there is inevitably redness, swelling, and protrusion, and the patient cannot avoid crying out in pain. In contrast, a Yin syndrome is different; although chills and fever may occur, the pain feels relatively lighter. At the initial stage, numerous small pustules must appear to deceive observers, with a generally flat surface lacking protrusion, and the facial complexion must be dark, unlike the red face seen in Yang syndromes. Treatment requires great caution, as life and death can turn on a dime.
A Yang syndrome sore arises from excess Fire that cannot be vented, or from the obstruction caused by drinking cold water or beverages, resulting in Yang Toxin. A Yin syndrome sore typically occurs in wealthy individuals who lead luxurious lives compounded by depression, or those who suffer from anger and excessive sexual activity. Since the internal Yin fluids are depleted, internal Fire blazes fiercely, and the accumulated toxin is profound. Once it erupts, how can one expect survival with minor doses? This differs significantly from the treatment of Yang syndromes. However, although Yin and Yang differ, the pathogenic factors (Toxic Qi) are not vastly different.
I now establish a formula to universally treat all types of carbuncles and sores regardless of Yin or Yang, which proves miraculous. The dosage for Yang syndromes should be reduced, while the number of ingredients for Yin syndromes should be increased. The formula is named "Yin Yang Tong Zhi Dan" (Yin-Yang Universal Treatment Pill). For Yin syndromes, double the amount of each herb and add one qian of Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root). Do not arbitrarily add other herbs. The efficacy of this formula lies in Jinyinhua (Honeysuckle Flower), as this herb is a marvel for nourishing Yin and a holy medicine for dispersing pathogens and detoxifying. However, without large doses, the power is weak and the effect shallow; therefore, I use up to three liang.
Why is it suitable for Yang syndromes? Because nourishing Yin assists the insufficiency of Yang Qi. Yang is born from Yin, which holds profound utility. For Yin syndromes, it is especially appropriate; doubling the dose makes the power strong and the Qi focused. Adding Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) allows it to penetrate the meridians, entering every channel, and guiding herbs like Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) and Gancao (Licorice Root) to work together, making success easier to achieve. If people in the world do not heed my words and delay treatment due to inertia, Yin syndromes will inevitably become complicated/ruined syndromes, and Yang syndromes will transform into Yin syndromes, becoming incurable. This is truly pitiable.
