懊烦闷,为有根之火,故但烦不躁,及先烦后躁者,皆可治也。外热曰“躁”,谓身体手

(Tao Jie'an's *Shanghan Liushu*) Treats irritability and restlessness caused by Yin excess repelling Yang.
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata), Laicha (Fermented Tea Leaf). Decoct with one zhong of water. Before administration, add five spoons of honey, and take in one dose cold.
Huiyang Fanben Tang (Decoction to Restore Yang and Return to the Root): Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Si Ni Sheng Mai Er Fang Pi (The combination of Si Ni Tang and Sheng Mai San). (This formula combines Si Ni Tang [Four Reversal Decoction] and Sheng Mai San [Generate the Pulse Powder], aiming to restore Yang while simultaneously replenishing Yin. Chenpi is added to regulate Qi.)
Dai Yuanli pointed out: If Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizome) is added, (the combination of Huanglian and Fuzi can communicate Water and Fire within an instant.) However, cases with only restlessness without irritability are incurable. ("Irritability" refers to internal heat, characterized by mental restlessness and oppression, representing "rooted fire." Therefore, cases with only irritability or those progressing from irritability to restlessness are treatable. "Restlessness" refers to external heat, characterized by physical agitation of limbs, a desire to sit, lie down, strip clothes, or jump into a well, representing "unrooted fire." Therefore, cases with only restlessness or those progressing from restlessness to irritability are untreatable.)
(Yu Jiayan's *Yimen Falü*) Treats sudden severe cold invasion, leading to cold extremities, vomiting, diarrhea, pale complexion, cold breath, shivering skin, and absence of sweat. This is a syndrome of extreme Yin excess overwhelming Yang.
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (both 5 qian, prepared), Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) (5 stalks, juice extracted), Zhu Dan (Suis Vesica Biliaris). Decoct with two large zhan of water. Boil Fuzi and Ganjiang, leaving about two cun of liquid residue; prepare two or three cakes; ... dissipate Yang returns, body becomes warm.
(Yu Jiayan's *Yimen Falü*) Treats sudden severe cold invasion where the patient has inherently loose interstices, profuse spontaneous sweating, cold body, cold extremities... or displays false heat externally with restlessness and irritability. This occurs when Yin excess internally forces Yang to escape externally. In this case, Congbai is omitted from the previous formula.
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) (both 5 qian, prepared). Decoct with two large zhan of water until reduced to one zhan. Add one clam-shell measure of Zhu Dan (Suis Vesica Biliaris). Mix and administer lukewarm or cold.
Do not use Congyi (Scallion moxibustion).
(Yu Jiayan's *Yimen Falü*) After treating cold invasion with Fuzi and Ganjiang Decoction, this formula should be administered immediately for the second dose. Since Cold has injured Ying and Blood, this formula is used to address Cold in the Ying level concurrently.
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) (each 2.5 qian). Decoct with two large zhan of water until reduced by half. Add one clam-shell measure of honey. Administer warm.
