[Paishang San Tang Formula]
Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange, *Citri Reticulatae Fructus Immaturus*) (16 pieces), Chishao (Red Peony Root, *Paeoniae Radix Rubra*) (6 fen), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root, *Platycodonis Radix*). Pound into a powder. Take one egg yolk (*Jizi Huang*), and mix the herbal powder with the egg yolk in equal proportions.
Gancao (Licorice Root, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*) (2 liang), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root, *Platycodonis Radix*) (3 liang), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens*) (1 liang), Dazao (Jujube, *Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus*) (10 pieces). Add 3 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 1 sheng. Take 5 he as a warm dose, administered daily.
There are two formulas for draining pus: Paishang San and Paishang Tang. The ingredients include Gancao, Dazao, Shengjiang, Shaoyao, and Zhishi, while Jiegeng is common to both. This indicates that to drain pus, one must first elevate Qi. If Qi is not elevated, Blood cannot flow smoothly, leading to the leakage of Qi downward. To drain pus, one must first elevate Qi. By inferring from this example, the key principles of surgery (Yangke) can be understood. (Su Song's *Tujing Bencao* records: Gancao can detoxify various medicines; it also treats abnormal erection of the penis with unbearable distending pain, known as "Jinshan" [Sinew Hernia].)
Gandou Tang can detoxify various medicines; its nature and flavor are mild and harmonious, and its efficacy is worthy of record. (Quoted from Su Song in *Chongxiu Zhenghe Jingshi Zhenglei Beiyong Bencao*: Sun Simiao stated, "Soybeans can detoxify various medicines. I tried them but they were ineffective, so I added Gancao to make Gandou Tang, and the verification was faster." It can also treat penile distending pain, which is called Jinshan, caused by excessive sexual indulgence. [Jinshan manifests as abnormal erection of the penis with pulling pain, resulting from unrestrained sexual desire. Using this formula also aims at detoxification. One should use the tip of Gancao, as the tip can reach directly to the glans penis.])
Treating Baihe Bing (Lily Disease). Baihe Bing refers to a condition where all meridians share the same origin, yet all are affected by the disease. The patient desires to eat but cannot, often remains silent, wishes to sleep but cannot rest peacefully, wishes to walk but cannot move, sometimes finds food delicious, and at other times cannot bear the smell of food. They feel cold but are not actually cold, feel hot but are not actually hot, have a bitter taste in the mouth, and experience reddish urine. These symptoms confuse physicians; various medicines fail to cure, and administering medicine causes severe vomiting or diarrhea. The physical appearance seems normal, but the pulse is slightly rapid. If headache occurs during urination, recovery takes sixty days; if there is no headache but a sensation of chilliness, recovery takes forty days; if urination is smooth but accompanied only by dizziness, recovery takes twenty days. These symptoms may appear before the illness begins, five days after onset, or twenty days to one month after onset. Treatment should follow the specific symptoms. If the patient has not undergone emesis, purgation, or diaphoresis, and the disease pattern remains unchanged, Baihe Dihuang Tang is indicated.
Baihe (Lily Bulb, *Lilii Bulbus*) (7 pieces), Shengdihuang Zhi (Juice of Raw Rehmannia Root, *Rehmanniae Radix Preparata* juice) (1 sheng). First, wash the Baihe with water, soak overnight until white foam appears on the surface, discard the water, then add 2 sheng of spring water to decoct the Baihe until reduced to half a sheng. Strain and remove the dregs, then add the Shengdihuang Zhi, and decoct again until the liquid becomes thick like lacquer.
