Treats irritability and restlessness caused by fire-induced reversal followed by purgation, and subsequently by burning needle therapy.
Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig), Gancao (Licorice Root) (each 1 liang), Longgu (Fossilized Bones), Muli (Oyster Shell) (each 2 liang). Add five sheng of water, boil to obtain two and a half sheng, remove the dregs, take eight he warm, three times daily.
Guizhi Longgu Muli Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Dragon Bone, and Oyster Shell Decoction): Treats individuals prone to seminal emission who present with tightness and urgency in the lower abdomen, coldness in the genital region, vertigo, and hair loss. The pulse is extremely deficient, Kou (hollow like a scallion stem), and slow, indicating cold yang, undigested food in stool, blood loss, or seminal emission; if the pulse presents various characteristics of Kou, moving, faint, and tight, men suffer from seminal emission, and women experience nocturnal emissions with sexual dreams.
This formula consists of the original Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) plus Longgu (Fossilized Bones) and Muli (Oyster Shell), each 3 liang. Add seven sheng of water, boil to obtain three sheng, divide into three doses.
Guizhi Qu Shaoyao Jia Shuqi Longgu Muli Jiuni Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction without Peony, plus Chinese Herbaceous Aristolochia Root, Dragon Bone, and Oyster Shell Decoction for Saving Reversal): Caused by fire therapy forcing (ancient methods for treating cold damage included hot compresses and water attacks), leading to the departure of Yang qi from the Heart channel, manifesting as cold limbs, sweating, and inevitably fright and mania. (Note: Fright and mania due to Yang collapse must be accompanied by cold limbs and sweating.) When Shen Ming (Spirit and Intellect) is scattered and on the verge of dissipation, this formula consolidates collapse and calms the spirit. (Fire forcing the Yang of the Heart channel cannot be pacified by sour astringents alone; thus, Shaoyao (Peony Root) is removed, and Longgu (Fossilized Bones) and Muli (Oyster Shell) are used to anchor and subdue. Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) and Shuqi (Chinese Herbaceous Aristolochia Root) are employed to swiftly ascend to the Yang position to rescue the suddenly scattered Shen Ming (Spirit and Intellect); therefore, Shuqi (Chinese Herbaceous Aristolochia Root) is decocted first to allow its properties to rise vigorously, dispel phlegm in the Yang aspect, and utilize its acrid and rapid nature to guide Longgu (Fossilized Bones) and Muli (Oyster Shell) to calm fright and consolidate collapse from the Yang position. With no master within the heart, relief cannot be delayed even for an instant, hence it is called "Saving Reversal". Xu Lingtai stated in *Lei Fang* (Classification of Formulas): "This is distinctly different from Yang collapse with sweating in Shaoyin disease: Shaoyin Yang collapse involves the loss of Yin-contained Yang, so Sini Tang (Counterflow Cold Decoction) and similar formulas are used to return Yang to the Kidney; here, fire forces sweating, causing the loss of Yang-contained Yang, so spirit-calming agents are used to anchor Yang in the Heart. Both have profound rationale and should not be interchanged.") This shares the same principle as Guigan Longmu Tang (Guizhi, Licorice, Dragon Bone, and Oyster Shell Decoction) and is effective for irritability caused by fire reversal and burning needles. (It anchors Yin qi and disperses fire pathogens, treating both upper and lower. The previous formula targets fright and mania, focusing treatment on the Heart, thus using Shuqi (Chinese Herbaceous Aristolochia Root); this formula lacks fright and mania, so Shuqi (Chinese Herbaceous Aristolochia Root) is omitted. The syndromes are largely similar.) The Guizhi Longgu Muli Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Dragon Bone, and Oyster Shell Decoction) in *Jinkui Yaolue* (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet) is often used for seminal emission, blood loss, and nocturnal emissions with sexual dreams. A faint, slow, and Kou (hollow) pulse indicates deficiency of Yin and Yang; this formula anchors the spirit and promotes storage and consolidation. (This is a syndrome of Heart-Kidney non-interaction, injury to essence and exhaustion of Qi, where the Spirit fails to consolidate. When used for external contraction, Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) expels pathogens and harmonizes Ying and Wei; when used for internal injury, it tonifies deficiency and regulates Yin and Yang. Adding Longgu (Fossilized Bones) and Muli (Oyster Shell) converges floating Shen Ming (Spirit and Intellect) and secures dissipating Jing (Essence).)
