Xiexin Tang (Heart-Draining Decoction) (see the section on Palpitations due to Fright). It treats women who vomit saliva and froth. If the physician mistakenly applies purgative methods, it results in epigastric fullness and obstruction (Pi syndrome). One should first treat the vomiting of saliva and froth with Xiao Qinglong Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction).
Note: The explanations for the above two formulas can be found in *Shanghan Lun Qianzhu* (Light Annotations on the Treatise on Cold Damage), so they are not repeated here.
It treats a woman around fifty years of age suffering from diarrhea that has persisted for dozens of days without stopping, accompanied by fever in the evening, urgency and tightness in the lower abdomen, abdominal fullness, vexatious heat in the palms, and dry lips and mouth. This belongs to the category of Dai disease (Leukorrhea disorders). Why is this so? Because she once had a spontaneous abortion (half-birth), and blood stasis remains in the lower abdomen unremoved. How do we know this? We know it from the symptom of dry lips and mouth. Wenjing Tang (Warming the Menses Decoction) is indicated.
Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) (3 liang), Danggui Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui, 当归), Chuanxiong Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong, 川芎), Shaoyao Radix Paeoniae Alba (Shaoyao, 芍药), Renshen Radix Ginseng (Renshen, 人参), Guizhi Ramulus Cinnamomi (Guizhi, 桂枝), Ejiao Colla Asini (Ejiao, 阿胶), Mudan Cortex Moutan (Danpi, 丹皮), Gancao Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancacao, 甘草) (each 2 liang), Shengjiang Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜).
The above twelve ingredients are decocted in ten dou of water until three sheng of liquid remain. Divide into three warm doses. This formula also treats cold in the lower abdomen of women leading to infertility over a long period; and additionally treats metrorrhagia and leukorrhea with bleeding.
Verse:
Wenjing contains Chuanxiong, Shaoyao, Gancao, Danggui, and Renshen.
Ejiao, Guizhi, and Danpi are each two liang equally.
(Ba Wu Ge Er Liang - Eight herbs each two liang,)
Banxia half sheng, Maidong doubled in use.

Commentary by Nan Yuanxi:
In this formula, Danggui, Chuanxiong, Shaoyao, and Ejiao are herbs that nourish the Liver. Danpi and Guizhi are herbs that regulate the Heart. Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu) also enters the Liver meridian... [Text fragment missing] ...therefore it is called "Warming" (Wen). Banxia and Shengjiang are used because Ginger can remove turbidity and calm the Stomach Qi, while Pinellia can direct rebellious Qi downward and smooth the Stomach Qi. The remaining herbs assist each other to achieve the warming effect. There are absolutely no herbs specifically for expelling blood stasis. Therefore, it can promote menstruation when it is overdue, stop it when it is excessive, and treat cold in the lower abdomen causing infertility. It comprehensively manages thirty-six types of Dai diseases, its efficacy being miraculous and beyond words.
For Dai disease accompanied by irregular menstruation, lower abdominal fullness and pain, and menstruation occurring twice in one month, Tuguagen San (Trichosanthes Root Powder) is indicated.
Tuguagen Radix Trichosanthis Kirilowii (Tuguagen, 土瓜根), Shaoyao Radix Paeoniae Alba (Shaoyao, 芍药), Guizhi Ramulus Cinnamomi (Guizhi, 桂枝), Echinoscopidae (Chong, 䗪虫) (each 3 fen).
The above four ingredients are pounded into a powder. Take one fangcun bi (square-inch measure) with wine, three times daily.
Verse:
Dai disease originates from the stagnation of blood stasis. (Unable to arrive on time, causing lower abdominal fullness and pain.)
Seeing it twice in a month (Since it is stagnant and does not flow freely, the previous menses have not cleared before the next arrives, hence appearing twice in a month).
Tuguagen, Guizhi, and Shaoyao are equal in dose; harmonizing Yin and Yang, the illness will naturally heal.
Commentary by Nan Yuanxi:
This clause refers specifically to Dai disease characterized by irregular menstruation. "Jing" (Menses) implies regularity. Women's menstruation must have a fixed cycle. You Zaijing stated: When blood is full, it flows; when empty, it regenerates, just like the waxing and waning of the moon or the tides of the sea. It must arrive on schedule, which is called "Trustworthiness" (Xin). Here, it says menstruation is irregular and occurs twice in a month because... [Text cuts off] Tuguagen...
