Baihe Bing (Lily Disease) that has not undergone emesis, purgation, or diaphoresis, and whose clinical manifestations remain unchanged from the initial stage, is primarily treated with Baihe Dihuang Tang (Lily and Rehmannia Decoction).
Baihe Rhizoma (Lilii Bulbus) (7 pieces). Shengdihuang Juice (Rehmanniae Radix Fresh Juice) (1 sheng).
First, decoct the Lilii Bulbus according to the previous method, obtaining 1 sheng of liquid. Strain out the dregs, add the Rehmanniae Radix Fresh Juice, and decoct again to obtain 1.5 sheng. Take half warm each time. If the disease is cured, do not take more.
The song states:
Not injured by diaphoresis, purgation, or emesis;
The form remains as at the beginning, staying in the Taiyang channel. (Referring to cases where the disease lingers for a long time but remains unchanged in the Taiyang channel.)
One sheng of Dihuang juice,
Seven Lily bulbs.
Commentary by Yuanxi:
When Baihe Bing persists for a long time without undergoing emesis, purgation, or diaphoresis, and the clinical presentation remains unchanged, it indicates that stagnation has generated heat over time, consuming Qi and Blood. The use of Baihe Dihuang Tang is because the pathogenic heat is discharged downward through the stool after medication. Hence, it is described as being black like lacquer.
If Baihe Bing persists for one month without resolution and transforms into thirst, this formula is primarily indicated.
Baihe Rhizoma (Lilii Bulbus) (1 sheng).
Soak in 1 dou of water overnight. After bathing with this water, eat boiled wheat noodles. Do not use salty fermented soybeans (Chidou).
The song states:
After a month unresolved, thirst arises;
Pathogenic heat lingers in the Lung, causing clear function to fail.
One sheng of Lilii Bulbus with one dou of water;
Bathe and eat noodles without soup. (Do not use salty Chidou.)
(Combined Reference):
The skin and hair are the exterior correspondence of the Lung; washing the exterior also helps to unblock the interior. Eating boiled wheat noodles utilizes the Qi of wheat and grains to distribute body fluids.
Avoiding salty Chidou prevents the salty flavor from consuming Yin fluids and exacerbating thirst.
If Baihe Bing presents with persistent thirst despite treatment, this powder is primarily indicated.
Gualougen (Trichosanthis Radix) and Muli (Ostreae Concha), calcined, in equal parts.
Grind into fine powder. Take one fangcun bi (one square-inch spoonful) mixed with water, three times daily.
The song states:
Persistent thirst after bathing belongs to floating Yang;
Muli and Gualougen are used in equal measure.
Grind into powder and mix with water for one fangcun bi;
Combining bitter-cold and salty-cold properties,
The efficacy surpasses...
Commentary by Yuanxi:
Thirst persisting after bathing indicates that the Yin Qi within has not yet recovered. The failure of Yin Qi to recover is due to the hyperactivity of Yang Qi; therefore, Ostreae Concha is used to subdue the Yang.
If Baihe Bing transforms into fever, this powder is primarily indicated.
Baihe Rhizoma (Lilii Bulbus), roasted (1 liang); Huashi (Talcum) (3 liang).
Grind into a powder. Take one fangcun bi mixed with water, three times daily. Stop taking the medicine when slight diarrhea occurs; the heat will then be eliminated.
The song states:
Previously, there was neither cold nor heat. (Chapter One describes it as feeling like cold but not being cold, feeling like heat but not being heat.)
Transforming into fever is alarming;
Clearing and dispersing with Talcum, three liang is appropriate.
Commentary by Yuanxi:
Baihe Bing originally lacks signs of excess heat. When fever develops, it indicates an abundance of internal heat permeating the skin and muscles, which differs from typical heat syndromes. The primary treatment uses Baihe Huashi San (Lily and Talc Powder).
Take the powder...
