(Phlegm abundance, body heat, mostly due to Blood deficiency.)
Dai Yuanli stated: Ke Xue (coughing blood) refers to blood mixed with phlegm expectorated during coughing. Ou Xue (vomiting blood) refers to vomiting whole blood. Luo Xue (spitting blood) refers to spitting out blood clots each time. Nu Xue (epistaxis) refers to bleeding from the nose. Niao Xue (hematuria) refers to bleeding in the urine. Xia Xue (lower gastrointestinal bleeding) refers to bleeding in the stool. Although named and categorized into six types based on color and source, they are all Heat syndromes, differing only in Deficiency vs. Excess, and recent vs. chronic nature. Those who recklessly claim it is a Cold syndrome are mistaken.
Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Hezi (Chebulae Fructus), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Haishi (Pteropoditae Lapis), Gualouren (Trichosanthis Semen).
The above herbs are ground into powder, mixed with Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Juice) and honey, and held in the mouth to dissolve. For severe coughing, add Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum). Subsequently, regulate with Bawu Tang (Eight-Ingredient Decoction) modified.
Body heat is mostly due to Blood deficiency. Treat with Siwu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction) modified.
(Fire carrying blood upward, causing vessels to malfunction and bleed erratically.)
For those with a large pulse, fever, and sore throat, this indicates Qi deficiency. Use Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Zhi Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex prepared with honey), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), along with Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix).
For Ou Xue (vomiting blood), drink Jiuji Zhi (Allium Tuberosum Juice), Tongbian (Infant Urine), Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Juice), and Mo Yujin (Curcumae Radix powder) together; the blood will clear naturally.
Fire carrying blood upward, causing vessels to malfunction and bleed erratically: Siwu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction) added with Chao Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus stir-fried), Tongbian (Infant Urine), and Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Juice).
Shanchahua (Camellia japonica Flower), Tongbian (Infant Urine), Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Juice), mixed with wine for administration.
Yujin (Curcumae Radix) powder treats Tu Xue (hematemesis). Add Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Juice) and Tongbian (Infant Urine).
For sputum with blood streaks, use Tongbian (Infant Urine), Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Juice), and Zhuli (Bambusa Textilis Caulis Sap).
Another prescription: Swallow Jiuji Zhi (Allium Tuberosum Juice) and Tongbian (Infant Urine) together, mixing finely ground Yujin (Curcumae Radix) powder into these two liquids, and drink them together. The blood will dissipate naturally.
Another prescription: To treat Nu Xue (epistaxis), use Yujin (Curcumae Radix). If Yujin is unavailable, mix Cha (Tea leaves), Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Juice), Tongbian (Infant Urine), and good wine, then take orally to stop bleeding.
Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Juice), Tongbian (Infant Urine), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) are used within cooling-blood formulas, combined with Siwu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction), Dihuang Gao (Rehmanniae Electuary), Niuxi Gao (Achyranthis Bidentatae Electuary), etc.
The main principle is cooling blood and promoting blood circulation. Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction) is used with Yujin (Curcumae Radix).
For retrograde menstruation, or bloody sputum/vomit, Jiu Ye Zhi (Allium Tuberosum Leaf Juice) provides immediate effect.
(Belongs to Heat syndrome.)
Chao Shanzhi (Stir-fried Gardeniae Fructus), decocted in water and taken orally; or use Xiaoji (Cirsii Herba) and Hupo (Amber).
For cases with Blood deficiency, Siwu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction) added with Niuxi Gao (Achyranthis Bidentatae Electuary).
