(Gu Zhang, also known as Dan Gu. Its detailed discussion is in *Ge Zhi Yu Lun*.)
Greatly tonifying Middle Qi and promoting the movement of Dampness addresses this condition of extreme Spleen deficiency (Spleen deficiency). One must stay away from music and entertainment, and cut off rich and greasy foods.
Use a large dose of Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), assisted by Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Fuling (Poria), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) and similar herbs.
If there is Blood deficiency, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) should be used to nourish and move Blood.
If the pulse is Excess and the patient is robust, purgative drugs may possibly be used, but subsequently, recovery must be managed primarily with Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma). Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) treats abdominal distension because its pungent flavor disperses Qi stagnation in the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner).
(Attributed to Qi deficiency, Damp-Heat, and Yang deficiency.)
Li Dongyuan has methods and formulas.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), with a small amount of Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) as an assistant.
For Yang deficiency, Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) can also be used.
Powder-pasting method:
Muli (Ostreae Concha), wheat bran, Bencao (Ligustici Rhizoma), glutinous rice, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Mahuanggen (Ephedrae Radix et Rhizoma) are ground into powder and dusted over the whole body.
When Fire Qi steams upward, Dampness in the Stomach can also transform into sweat. Liangge San (Cool the Upper Jiao Powder) is the primary treatment.
Phlegm syndromes can also present with sweating.
(Attributed to Blood deficiency and Yin deficiency.)
Dai Yun said: Dao Han (Night Sweating) refers to spontaneous sweating during sleep, which ceases upon waking. This is not like Zi Han (Spontaneous Sweating) which occurs naturally while awake. In infants, this does not require treatment.
Li Dongyuan has methods and formulas, specifically Danggui Dahuang Tang (Angelica and Rheum Decoction).
Formula for Night Sweating:
Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (4 liang [approx. 120g]. One liang is stir-fried with Huangqi; one liang with Shihu [Dendrobii Caulis]; one liang with Muli powder; one liang with wheat bran. Each is stir-fried until slightly yellow. The remaining dregs are discarded, using only the Baizhu.)
Grind into fine powder. Take 3 qian [approx. 9g] each time, mixed with millet soup. After consuming the full 4 liang, the condition will resolve.
(Present with Phlegm, Qi deficiency, and Deficient Fire. Treat according to Excess or Deficiency patterns.)
Dai Yun said: Ni Chu (Hiccups) are caused by Phlegm and Heat, or excessive Stomach Fire.
For Deficiency patterns, Da Bu Wan (Great Tonification Pill) is taken with Renshen and Baizhu decoction.
For Excess patterns accompanied by Phlegm, induce vomiting. Use substances such as Ren Shen Lu (Ginseng Stem).
(Mostly due to Phlegm-Dampness obstruction.)
Left side indicates Wind pathogen. Use Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba).
Indicates Blood deficiency. Use Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba).
Right side indicates Phlegm-Dampness. Use Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma).
Indicates Heat. Use Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix).
Nasal insufflation medicines may include Bibo (Piperis Longi Fructus) and Pig Gallbladder bile.
