(The meridians circulating on the anterior and posterior aspects of the body are distinguished by the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) and Du Mai (Governing Vessel), which divide the upper, lower, left, and right sides.)
The Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) has twenty-four acupoints, distributed along the abdomen and chest. Starting from Huiyin (CV1), followed by Qugu (CV2), Zhongji (CV3), Guanyuan (CV4), and Shimen (CV5) connect; Qihai (CV6) and Yinjiao (CV7) intersect; Shenque (CV8) meets Shuifen (CV9); Xiawan (CV10) and Jianli (CV11) join; Zhongwan (CV12) and Shangwan (CV13); Juque (CV14) and Jiutui (CV15); Zhongting (CV16) and Danzhong (CV17); Yutang (CV18), Shangguan (CV19), Huagai (CV20); Xuanji (CV21) and Tiantu (CV22); then reaching Lianquan (CV23), finally Chengjiang (CV24) where flavors blend.
Song of Measurements for Acupoints on the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel):
Huiyin (CV1) of the Ren Mai is located between the two yin organs; Qugu (CV2) is secured in the depression at the pubic hairline; Zhongji (CV3) is taken four cun below the umbilicus; Guanyuan (CV4) connects three cun below the umbilicus; Shimen (CV5) is two cun below the umbilicus; Qihai (CV6) is fully situated one and a half cun below the umbilicus; Yinjiao (CV7) is one cun below the umbilicus; the center of the umbilicus is called Shenque (CV8). One cun above the umbilicus is Shuifen (CV9); two cun above the umbilicus lies Xiawan (CV10); three cun above the umbilicus is named Jianli (CV11); Zhongwan (CV12) is approximately four cun above the umbilicus; Shangwan (CV13) is five cun above the umbilicus; Juque (CV14) is six and a half cun above the umbilicus. Jiutui (CV15) is five fen below the xiphoid process; Zhongting (CV16) and Danzhong (CV17) are taken at one and six tenths cun; Danzhong (CV17) is actually between the nipples. Six and ten-tenths cun above Danzhong (CV17) is Yutang (CV18); three and two-tenths cun above Danzhong (CV17) is Shangguan (CV19); four and eight-tenths cun above Danzhong (CV17) lifts Huagai (CV20) (four cun eight fen). Five and eight-tenths cun above Danzhong (CV17) is Xuanji (CV21); one cun above Xuanji (CV21) Tiantu (CV22) protrudes; Tiantu (CV22) is approximately four cun below the laryngeal prominence. Lianquan (CV23) is below the tip of the hyoid bone; Chengjiang (CV24) is in front of the chin, below the lip ridge; the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) circulates in the central abdomen. (A total of twenty-four acupoints in the central abdomen.)

The Du Mai (Governing Vessel) circulates in the midline of the back, starting with Changqiang (GV1), totaling twenty-seven acupoints: Yaoshu (GV2), Yangguan (GV3); entering Mingmen (GV4), Xianshu (GV5) stands proper; Jizhong (GV6), Jinsuo (GV7), Zhiyang (GV8) are arranged in sequence; Lingtai (GV9), Shendao (GV10), Shenzhu (GV11) are detailed; Taodao (GV12), Dazhui (GV14) up to Yamen (GV15); Fengfu (GV16), Naohu (GV17), Qiangjian (GV18) are separated; Houding (GV19), Baihui (GV20) and Qian Ding (GV21); Xinhui (GV22), Shangxing (GV23) and Shenting (GV24); Suliao (GV25) reaches Shuigou (GV26) below the nose; Duanduan (GV27) and Yinjiao (GV28) terminate inside the lips.
Song of Measurements for Acupoints on the Du Mai (Governing Vessel):
Yinjiao (GV28) of the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) is in the inner lip corner; Duanduan (GV27) is exactly at the center of the lip tip; Shuigou (GV26) is in the groove below the nose; Suliao (GV25) should be carefully observed at the nasal tip. The head shape is high in the north and low in the face; first measure using the anterior and posterior hairlines, divided into one chi and two cun. Five fen above the hairline is Shenting (GV24); one cun above the hairline is Shangxing (GV23); two cun above the hairline Xinhui (GV22) is good; Qian Ding (GV21) is three and a half cun above the hairline; Baihui (GV20) is five cun above the hairline in the center (located in the whorl of hair in the center of the vertex, above the line connecting the apexes of both ears, space enough for a fingernail. Chen Shi of Beixi in Xingli says: Slightly closer to the north, just as the North Star resides in the north of heaven. Why does it say one chi and two cun, but the count stops at one chi and one cun? This is because there are no acupoints at the anterior and posterior hairlines, but measurement must start from them, thus leaving one cun distance.) One and a half cun behind the vertex is Houding (GV19); three cun behind is Qiangjian (GV18); four and a half cun behind is Naohu (GV17). Entering one cun into the posterior hairline, Fengfu (GV16) operates; one cun into the posterior hairline at the nape, within the great tendons in a hollow place; when speaking quickly, the muscle rises immediately; when speech ceases, it stops immediately; this is five and a half cun behind Baihui (GV20). Five fen above the hairline, Yamen (GV15) is located; five fen above the posterior hairline, in the hollow of the central neck; take while looking up, entering to connect with the root of the tongue. From Shenting (GV24) to here, ten acupoints are true. From the occipital bone down the spine, it is divided into twenty-four vertebrae. Above Dazhui (GV14) lies the cervical spine, approximately three vertebrae not counted; Changqiang (GV1) at the tail is also not counted; the middle twenty-one can be arranged by vertebra. The large bone at Dazhui (GV14) is the first; after the second vertebra joint, know Taodao (GV12); the third vertebra interspace holds Shenzhu (GV11); do not doubt Shendao (GV10) at the fifth; Lingtai (GV9) to Zhiyang (GV8) at the sixth and seventh; consider Jinsuo (GV7) internally at the ninth; the acupoint of Jizhong (GV6) is at the eleventh; Xianshu (GV5) is unique at the twelfth; Mingmen (GV4) and Shenshu (BL23) stand together at the fourteenth; Yangguan (GV3) can be known naturally at the sixteenth; the twenty-first vertebra is Yaoshu (GV2); the length of the sacrococcygeal end follows suit. (Total twenty-seven acupoints.)
