Yin Qi (Yin Energy) accumulates in the lower part, while Yang Qi (Yang Energy) has not yet exhausted. Yang Qi pulls upward, and Yin Qi pulls downward; their mutual traction causes frequent yawning. When Yang Qi is exhausted and Yin Qi is abundant, the eyes close (sleep). When Yin Qi is exhausted and Yang Qi is abundant, one awakens. Treatment involves reducing the Foot Shaoyin (Kidney) channel and supplementing the Foot Taiyang (Bladder) channel. The Kidney governs yawning; therefore, points on the Foot Shaoyin channel are selected.
When food enters the stomach, Stomach Qi (Stomach Energy) flows upward to the Lung. However, if old cold pathogenic factors remain and combine with the new food Qi returning to the stomach, the old and new Qi interfere with each other. True Qi and Evil Qi (Pathogenic Factors) attack each other, and Qi mechanisms become entangled and connected. This Qi then rushes out from the stomach, causing hiccuping. Treatment involves supplementing the Hand Taiyin (Lung) channel and reducing the Foot Shaoyang (Gallbladder) channel.
When Yin Qi is abundant and Yang Qi is deficient, Yin Qi moves rapidly while Yang Qi moves slowly. If Yin Qi becomes extremely abundant and Yang Qi is depleted, sighing occurs. Treatment involves supplementing the Foot Taiyang channel and reducing the Foot Shaoyin channel. When Cold Qi lodges in the stomach, rebellious Qi rises from below and disperses upward, then exits from the stomach again, causing belching. Treatment involves supplementing the Hand Taiyin and Foot Yangming (Stomach) channels.
When Cold Qi lodges in the skin, Yin Qi is abundant and Yang Qi is deficient, resulting in chills and shivering. Treatment involves supplementing all Yang channels.
If Stomach Qi is not solid, the various meridians become deficient. If the meridians are deficient, the sinews and vessels become lax and weak. If the sinews and vessels are lax, Yin functions dominate, and Qi cannot recover, leading to flaccidity. Based on the location of the pathology, supplementation is performed in the intermuscular spaces.
When Yang Qi is harmonious and smooth, filling the Heart and emerging through the nose, sneezing occurs. Treatment involves supplementing the Ying-Spring point of the Foot Taiyang channel and the points at the beginning of the eyebrows (Cuanzhu, BL2).
If tears flow incessantly, body fluids are depleted. If body fluids are depleted, Essence (Jing) is not nourished. If Essence is not nourished, vision is lost; this is termed "Loss of Essence." Treatment involves supplementing the Tianzhu points along the Bladder channel on both sides of the neck.
Worry and overthinking cause the Heart vessels to contract. Contraction leads to Qi constraint. Constraint leads to obstruction, so deep sighing is used to release the Qi. Treatment involves supplementing the Hand Shaoyin (Heart) and Hand Jueyin (Pericardium) channels, and retaining needles in the Foot Shaoyang channel.
When food enters the stomach, heat in the stomach causes parasites to move. Parasite movement relaxes the stomach walls. Relaxation opens the Lianquan point, causing saliva to flow. Treatment involves supplementing the Foot Shaoyin channel. The saliva contains roundworms. Press firmly with the hand to hold them in place without allowing movement. Insert a large needle and retain it for a long time until the worms stop moving, then remove the needle.
Spasm of the Foot Yangming and Hand Taiyang channels causes deviation of the mouth and eyes. Spasm prevents sudden visual focus. Treatment follows the methods described above.
