The Yellow Emperor said: In general, the principles of acupuncture require a thorough understanding of the starting and ending points of the twelve meridians, the locations where collateral vessels branch off, the sites where the Five Shu Points accumulate Qi, the connections between the Six Fu Organs and their corresponding meridians, the entry and exit of Qi in relation to the Four Seasons, the sites where Qi flows into the Zang Organs, the dimensions of width and length, the states of depth and shallowness, and the high and low positions of acupoints. I wish to hear your explanation. Qibo replied: Please allow me to explain in order.
The Lung Meridian's Qi emerges from Shaoshang (Shao Shang), which is located at the medial tip of the thumb. It is the Jing-Well point (Wood element). The Qi flows to Yuji (Yu Ji), located on the thenar eminence, which is the Ying-Spring point. The Qi pours into Taiyuan (Tai Yuan), located in the depression one cun posterior to the thenar eminence, which is the Shu-Stream point. The Qi travels through Jingquan (Jing Quan), located at the radial pulse position (Cunkou), where the pulse beats continuously; this is the Jing-River point. The Qi enters Chize (Chi Ze), which is the arterial pulse in the center of the elbow crease; this is the He-Sea point. This constitutes the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian.
The Heart Meridian's Qi emerges from Zhongchong (Zhong Chong), located at the tip of the middle finger. It is the Jing-Well point (Wood element). The Qi flows to Laogong (Lao Gong), located between the proximal phalanx of the middle finger in the palm; this is the Ying-Spring point. The Qi pours into Daling (Da Ling), located in the depression below the space between the two bones at the wrist; this is the Shu-Stream point. The Qi travels through Jianshi (Jian Shi), located three cun between the two tendons. When there is pathogenic influence, Qi reaches here; when absent, it stops. This is the Jing-River point. The Qi enters Quze (Qu Ze), located in the depression below the medial border of the elbow, obtained by flexing the arm; this is the He-Sea point. This constitutes the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian.

The Qi pours into Taichong (Tai Chong), located in the depression two cun superior to Xingjian; this is the Shu-Stream point. The Qi travels through Zhongfeng (Zhong Feng), located in the depression one and half cun anterior to the medial malleolus. If Qi moves against its course, it stagnates; if harmonious, it flows freely. It is obtained by shaking the foot. This is the Jing-River point. The Qi enters Ququan (Qu Quan), located below the accessory bone and above the large tendon, obtained by flexing the knee; this is the He-Sea point. This constitutes the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian.
The Spleen Meridian's Qi emerges from Yinbai (Yin Bai), located at the medial tip of the great toe. It is the Jing-Well point (Wood element). The Qi flows to Dabu (Da Bu), located in the depression posterior to the proximal phalanx; this is the Ying-Spring point. The Qi pours into Taibai (Tai Bai), located at the end of the navicular bone tuberosity; this is the Shu-Stream point. The Qi travels through Shangqiu (Shang Qiu), located in the depression below the medial malleolus; this is the Jing-River point. The Qi enters Yinlingquan (Yin Ling Quan), located in the depression below the accessory bone, obtained by extending the leg; this is the He-Sea point. This constitutes the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian.
The Kidney Meridian's Qi emerges from Yongquan (Yong Quan), located in the center of the sole. It is the Jing-Well point (Wood element). The Qi flows to Ran Gu (Ran Gu), located below the cuneiform bone; this is the Ying-Spring point. The Qi pours into Taixi (Tai Xi), located in the depression behind the medial malleolus and above the calcaneus; this is the Shu-Stream point. The Qi travels through Fuliu (Fu Liu), located two cun above the medial malleolus, where the pulse beats without rest; this is the Jing-River point. The Qi enters Yin Gu (Yin Gu), located posterior to the turning bone, between the large tendon and small tendon, palpable upon pressing, obtained by flexing the knee; this is the He-Sea point. This constitutes the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian.
The Bladder Meridian's Qi emerges from Zhiyin (Zhi Yin), located at the tip of the little toe. It is the Jing-Well point (Metal element). The Qi flows to Tonggu (Tong Gu), located at the anterolateral aspect of the proximal phalanx; this is the Ying-Spring point. The Qi pours into Shugu (Shu Gu), located in the depression posterior to the proximal phalanx; this is the Shu-Stream point. It passes Jinggu (Jing Gu), located below the large bone on the lateral side of the foot, which is the Yuan-Source point. The Qi travels through Kunlun (Kun Lun), located posterior to the lateral malleolus and above the calcaneus; this is the Jing-River point. The Qi enters Weizhong (Wei Zhong), located in the center of the popliteal fossa, obtained by flexing the knee; this is the He-Sea point. This constitutes the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian.
The Gallbladder Meridian's Qi emerges from Xiaoyin (Xiao Yin), located at the tip of the fourth toe. It is the Jing-Well point (Metal element). The Qi flows to Xiaxi (Xia Xi), located between the fourth and fifth toes; this is the Ying-Spring point. The Qi pours into Linqi (Lin Qi), located in the depression one and half cun superiorly; this is the Shu-Stream point. It passes Qiuxu (Qiu Xu), located in the depression anterior and inferior to the lateral malleolus, which is the Yuan-Source point. The Qi travels through Yangfu (Yang Fu), located above the lateral malleolus, anterior to the fibula, and at the end of the Jieggu (fibular head region); this is the Jing-River point. The Qi enters Yanglingquan (Yang Ling Quan), located in the depression lateral to the knee, obtained by extending the leg; this is the He-Sea point. This constitutes the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian.
The Stomach Meridian's Qi emerges from Lidui (Li Dui), located at the tip of the second toe. It is the Jing-Well point (Metal element). The Qi flows to Neiting (Nei Ting), located in the lateral interspace of the second toe; this is the Ying-Spring point. The Qi pours into Xangu (Xan Gu), located in the depression two cun superiorly between the first and second metatarsal bones; this is the Shu-Stream point. It passes Chongyang (Chong Yang), located in the depression five cun on the dorsum of the foot, obtainable by moving the foot, which is the Yuan-Source point. The Qi travels through Jie Xi (Jie Xi), located in the depression one and half cun superior to Chongyang; this is the Jing-River point. The Qi enters Xialing (Xia Ling), also known as Zusanli (Zu San Li), located three cun below the knee on the lateral side of the tibia, which is the He-Sea point. Three cun below Zusanli is Shanglian (Shang Lian) of the Large Intestine Lower He-Sea point, and three cun below that is Xialian (Xia Lian) of the Small Intestine Lower He-Sea point. The Large Intestine meridian ascends, and the Small Intestine meridian descends, both belonging to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. The Large and Small Intestines are subordinate to the Stomach; this is the Foot-Yangming Meridian.
